  • Dia - have you ever made your own almond milk? Soak 1 cup of almonds in water overnight. Then rinse. Then blend with 4 cups of fresh water and strain. I only have a hand blender and it works well enough for me. A processor would be even better.
Thanks apple muncher. ;) I don't even have a hand blender but I am thinking a food processor would be good to treat myself to at Christmas as I do lots of cooking from scratch. The price of almond milk alone would soon recoup the cost!

Out and about but no coffee chains thank you very much.

    Middle aged gratitudes:
My food flask, comfortable footwear, a £10 tax refund cheque.

My new habit is a 30 minus walk, so far I have stuck to this.

Took lunch out with me :)

  • F0xh0les - I am very keen on the idea of a marzipan and peach pudding :D
I have bagged another nsd today - mainly thanks to horrific traffic doubling my commute time both ways today and a really busy day at work. Leaving the house at 7 and getting in at 6 means I don't much feel like shopping one way or the other.

    Hi all :j

Didn't get to check in yesterday as very full day going out for lunch & then coming back home, packing & making all preps for DD taking care of the fluffs - then driving to our t*lodge (less than £37). Got there pretty late but did take food to eat & cereal for the morning before the ferry crossing.

Now in this hotel for 3 nights, booked online for a good price & seems very comfortable & convenient for the town. DH has lectures but they are in the evening so we can have the day out together then I can relax in the room. Poor chap only got to one last year due to me being whisked off to the hospital so this is why I suggested we came again this year.

Budgets: Not set yet but am cutting down on shopping & also C*mas. Will not be a standard month as hols intervene. Not possible to do this atm as DH has 'bought me something for my birthday from our joint account & if I look at it, will immediately know what the gift is!!!'. Although will be using a different a/c after tomorrow as on hols, so that will be easier. No change, but now using other account.

Make do, mend, or do without: Ate own food this morning instead of buying but did eat out this afternoon when we finally got here. Bought sandwich stuff but still full. Will eat breakfast here (included) then one meal out per day.

achieve at least 15 NSD : still 2/15

Coffee: Never drink it or go in a coffee shop so that's an easy one for me.

    Meals:

Remove 60 items: Apparently since we left last night favourite dog removed some malt loaves & biscuits from a bag carelessly left on the bottom of the stairs (we have a baby gate but he can reach through to the first steps). However, probably as a result of this theft, he also did leave a deposit which DD found after she returned from her night shift at 7.30 am. So that's whatever number of cakes/biscuits removed - minus one item deposited

Toiletries: Have loads & have a birthday this month so will hopefully get some more.

2 Outings: May be more than that as on hols...one is a meal out with family, but their treat so hopefully no cost. Had said outing yesterday, lovely meeting but food pretty dire. They didn't seem to notice & it would have been really churlish to complain as it was their treat.

    Fresh air:
Out for a short walk in the local town as shattered, didn't sleep well & lots of travelling.

donate £5 or time to a charity you support: Have donated £2 to one, will donate to the other. Donated HK socks to rescue, had email telling me how delighted they are with them, very touching. Also volunteer on a weekly basis at a cs when at home.

Three things: Great meeting with family, very calm ferry crossing, cake to come...

start 1 or 2 new habits this month:
    Water OK, diet definitely not!!

Glad you are feeling better foxholes & what a domestic goddess to make a pudding from scratch when feeling carp, well done you!!

  • Happy Wednesday every one, hope you’re all well.

Calling14 - wow that massage sounds amazing. I sometimes have a back massage which I love, but a full body massage sounds like bliss.

I’ve had a productive day, busy at work and then as soon as I got home I did a workout, I’ve got a few weights at home and although I didn’t feel much like working out, once I’d done it I felt much better.

I put my left over chicken carcass from my Sunday roast in the slow cooker yesterday and have made chicken soup tonight, smells lovely but missing a bit of something so have added some cumin and smoked paprika, think that’s livened it up a bit!

NSD - managed a 5th no spend day thanks to OH paying for my (overdue) MOT. Oops not sure how that happened. I’ll pay OH back on Friday.

Lunch to work - been too busy for lunch today, saved for tomorrow’s lunch.

Use ups - doing well on this front, cut open a tube of body lotion today, thought it was almost empty but there was loads left.

New habits - only had 3 cups of coffee all day instead of the usual 8 or 9 I’d usually have, I know it’s such a bad habit I’ve got into.....

Grateful - today I’m grateful for being thrifty with my left overs, working out and the positive vibes it gave me, even when I didn’t feel like it, OH stepping in to help out.

Today I am grateful for making it through the day at work, for some useful conversations, for dealing with a couple of slimy frogs, for dd getting better (albeit s l o w l y ), for my pyjamas to lounge around in, for my cousin getting an interview at a very nice school next week, for dh and dd prepping the garden for our oh-so-small bonfire + fireworks on fri eve, for a wonderful shower and hairwash.

Delta13 have you tried using fairy liquid? Whenever I get cooking oil on my clothes fairy liquid seems to sort it out, sometimes needs a few goes to get it completely out.

Calling14 I think self-care like massages or physio are well worth investing in if you can.

Had a mental couple of days at work, it's all kicking off with my clients and it just means everything else has to take a back seat and then caught up on later. Hey ho the joys of social work. On the plus side it means the week goes quicker!

Really feeling tired today, but got up at 6 to go to the gym. Def need an early night tonight. Bought a finger splint online as I seem to have sprained a finger somehow. It's been hurting for a couple of weeks because I keep catching it on stuff so thought I'd better protect it. I'm going to count it as a health expense.

Today I'm grateful for getting home at a reasonable time, for a tough but fun PT session this morning, and tasty protein bars.

Budget - ynab updated with today's spends. Did the weekly shop and had a coffee out with OH.

    NSDs - still on 3/15.

Lunch to work - didn't take anything but ended up working slightly later so wish I had. Didn't buy anything but was very hungry by the time I got home.

Items removed - 19/60, got rid of an old candle.

Use up - I have 4 half used hand creams so have put them all on the table beside where I sit to remind me to use them up.

Outings - went out for a coffee with OH in one of the wee cafes along the beach.

Daily fresh air - went a walk along the beach before our coffee.

Gratitudes - yummy omelette for tea, not getting rained on during our walk, cosy flat.

New habits - to do an average of 10,000 steps each day so 300,000 over the course of the month, 51,682/300,000.

Food budget has gone. Beloved asked if I would be doing a food order anytime soon and I told her to write a list. She came back to ask where I would be ordering from and then set the list up on my account. I checked it and added 5 things (milk, marg and eggs) and food budget has gone.

Well she is cooking for DS3 and he is eating it, so much healthier than takeaways but coming from my budget not theirs. I will continue to eat from the frozen veg mountain and add tinned beans and fruit (+ crustless quiche when the eggs arrive).

Slow sorting going on here. Have worked my way to the far corner of my room, taken several bags of pots and sorted recycling downstairs, a bit of pottering in the garden and kitchen and a quick trip into their room when I realised Beloved wasn't in there (6 bags for life quick).

Today I am grateful for the primulas starting to flower (took a book and 3 things for the food bank to the library and went round the exhibition upstairs - having a Pete Shelley exhibition next), for losing my appetite (had a ys 13p bag of carrot and swede for tea and it was lovely), for clear space apppearing in the garden and around the house.

    Hey all!!!

Very quick check-in as am cream-crackered!

Bagged an NSD finally making that 02/15 whoop!!!

Got myself to the gym but not much fresh air other than the walk to and from the car/gym/apartment haha. Must do better!!!

    Today I am grateful for:

    1. The gym... again!
    2. My new game - though it has consumed WAY too much time
    3. The willpower to stay on track with my eating regime!

Hugs to all - off to bed x
