Got a letter today saying that the case has been vacated and I'm to write to the court if I'm unable to settle out of court or go with a phone call hearing or video conferencing call.
I've got a baby and 3 young children at home full time now so I cannot possibly entertain the idea of a phone call or video call during this isolation period. Is that enough of a reason?

it also mentions allowing it to be settled "on papers"

you should choose what you want, after reading the advice given today in other threads about this new development (Aib51)

coupon mad has already given her advice about it in another thread this evening, clearly you have not read it

To be fair, not everyone will read every thread, so will have no idea about what you or anyone else may have posted in another thread. ;)

These  parking claims are very likely to be at the bottom of the pile when normal service is resumes, so it could be months/before this is heard.  A face to face is so much better for so many reasons.  Also, the scammer may have gone bust by then.

For those that didn't see it or don't read every thread here is the LINK to C-m's post.  Posters are advised to read other threads than their own and to search for similar cases.  Accept that not everyone will, hence the link to help those posters.

ETA, there was another post by Coupon-mad yesterday HERE is that link.

I replied to the court saying my option is to attend court face to face.
The other day bw legal called me wanting to discuss the case would you believe. I said there's nothing to discuss and  they then tried to ask me some security details so I hung up. Haven't had a call back since.

Good, sounds like they might be about to discontinue, as happened to another poster.

If they discontinue the case can you still claim your costs against them?

You can try, as others have previously, but there isn't any pattern of success. What sort of costs are you seeking?
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

You can, but you need to be assertive, highly literate, familiar with the law, and prepared to ut in the hours. It is not the the idle and the easily nonplussed.
