As a long-time MSE user/fan I have convinced my employer to create a website targeted directly at MSE members.
www.donecomparing.com
The rationale behind the site are:
- We can beat the prices offered by price comparison sites! Check out our performance on the website.
- We sell our products (under other brands) through all the main UK price comparison sites. Our prices are regularly the cheapest on these sites! Selling direct allows us to further discount our rates by the value of the fee we would otherwise pay the price comparison site.
- We have arrangements with some insurers that allow us to manually discount premiums where we feel it is prudent to do so. This facility can not be replicated by automated systems.
- Our staff regularly encounter customers who have obtained quotes from price comparison sites without fully understanding what is/is not covered.
- Customers often report frustration when lengthy price comparison quote processes return prices that increase if you try to buy.
www.donecomparing.com is backed by one of the UK's largest insurance intermediaries, insuring over 500,000 individuals.
MSE members should be aware of the savings we can offer. Please add this site to your car insurance article.

I think I may have technically beaten the cheapest quotes. Early in the year my wifes insurance was up for renewal. I used various comparison sites to find the cheapest quote which was £196 with Tesco.com.
On this site Martin posted that if you put a promo code in when required and paid on the Tesco Clubcard credit card which I had you would be credited with 500 clubcard points per month which accounted for £60 worth of vouchers over the twelve months, but for all those who know if you use the voucher towards a clubcard deal they are worth 4 times as much money ie £240 off hotels, holidays etc... so this was a bargain in itself.
However the Tesco Insurance web site was also giving a £50 voucher as part of the insurance contract towards petrol/shopping.
So although I paid £196 for insurance Tesco have technically paid me £94 for taking insurance out with them. I dont think you can get any better than that. In the end for paying the 196 premium I have got a years insurance, a tank of fuel, and a 2 night marriott break with the missus.:j :j0 -
Think I may have lost out here. I used gocompare and they showed Privelige as the cheapest fro me so I bought the policy via Quidco tonight for £50 cashback.
But when I checked my email privelige have sent me an email thanking me for using gocompare. I did not click through to buy but they did come out top.
Have I no chance of the cashback? I'll cancel and stick with my current insurer if that's the case.0 -

Zurich are offering a £50 M&S voucher and free Breakdown cover when taking out comprehensive cover. You won't get this direct from Zurich but you can through gocompare.com. I'm not sure about the other comparison sites. Unfortunately you can't use cashback sites with this offer0

I've beaten my best insurance quote by accident - does anyone know if it will still be valid:
I used the alliance and lester's online insurance quote and accidently entered my voluntary excess where it asked for the renewal quote from my current insurer. I entered £250 and it offered me a quote of £239. My renewal quote is £520 from my current insurer and all other comparison sites are around the same amount. I've carefully checked through all the other details i entered and they are all correct.
Should I take advantage of the companies eagerness to beat another quote and take out the insurance online or will my quote be invalid because I entered the wrong renewal amount?
Thanks0 -
I've just been getting quotes to renew the insurance on an old Fiesta (worth less than £1000). Decided to check if Martin had updated his articles recently, and thought it useful to point out that many of the quotes I've had have been cheaper for fully comp than 3rd party this year (all other details the same), which is contrary to what the article implies.
I've no idea why exactly, but if you've got an older car and are believing 3rd party will be your cheapest option, it might be worth quickly checking the quotes for fully comp too!0 -
Hi, i hope someone can help with some advice.
I have received my renewal priced at 272.00. Moneysupermarket brought back a quote of 222.00, so not too bad a saving on a comprehensive cover. This is the lowest quote i have received, and it is with the same insurance company I am currently with. I could earn £45 cashback from a cashback site if i use their link to take me to my insurers website. Is it ok to do this, to use a cashback site to take me to my current insurer for a new quote ? Has anybody done this successfully and is it ok to do so ? i cant see any problem with this, as when I insured with them last year I did it over the phone, and I'm pretty sure the cashback sites are there to bring new internet customers to the insurance companies ?
Any thoughts ? from a newbie !! First post.0 -
