Direct line sent my renewal £181 with 10% charge for monthly premiums, TV advertising new policy no surcharges for new customers. Went on line with Direct Line got a quote, saved, got no surcharge for DD and 10% discount as online quote, the premium was £145. Its worth a bit of time to get a new quote.0

I got a renewal quote of £590 from Direct Line (I'm in my late 30s but I've only been driving a year) and used the comparison sites in Martin's article to look elsewhere. Most insurers were cheaper, but the cheapest for me seemed to come from the comparethemarket.com site. I've just taken out a policy with Kwik Fit who quoted me £350, which is half what I paid with Direct Line last year :j I rang Direct Line to ask if they would match it and their reply was that they "don't match anybody's quotes", so they've just lost a customer! Off to look for cheap breakdown cover now0

"Should I take advantage of the companies eagerness to beat another quote and take out the insurance online or will my quote be invalid because I entered the wrong renewal amount?"
JB7, what an honest person you are. Of course take the new quote, they have not made the quote based on your previous insurers price but on you as a risk. Go for it and enjoy the savings.0 -
Just thought I'd share this with all. Did a price comparison with moneysupermarket. Sheilas wheels came up cheapest. Went to their site made some adjustments until the policy was how i wanted it and all ready to buy at a cost of £411.
I Noticed that CBK are offering £75 cashback on sheilas wheels. Cleared all my cookies and started fresh from there. Went to Sheilas wheels from CBK entered all my details exactly the same so I had exactly the same level of cover. The price for the same policy with same excesses is now £524. Go Figure.
I thought the price wasn't supposed to change when you used a cashback site. Lucky i saved the first quote. Have double checked ALL details and excesses between the 2 and they are Definately all the same.
Thats martins theory of find the cheapest quote and then see if cashback is available out the window.0 -
Thats strange, Ive just done mine, comparison site then to the quidco link and its the same price and I have the cash back tracked. Different company though.
Check at the checkout that they havent added on some bits like legal cover or NCB etc. that you didnt have on the original quote0 -

No They haven't, but I did on both quotes. Like I said All the details were entered and selected exactly the same right up to checkout.0 -
It seems some of the insurance companies are trying to out-smart us money savers. As per some of the posts above.
If you get a quote for Esure through go-compare, it will be approximately £75 cheaper than the quote through the link on quidco, (e.g. approx the cashback amount).
So using quidco does not deliver the desired effect.
Certainly you do not get a cheaper policy at the end.
And they have picked up on the loop-hole of doing the quote on go-compare and then clicking through quidco to complete. Each quote is stamped, so they know where it orginated from. The notes on quidco for e-sure state:
Please read the following before proceeding:
* Subject to terms & conditions.
Cashback will be awarded when you purchase a quote generated directly from the esure website through the Quidco link. Should you wish to retrieve a previously saved esure aggregator quote (eg, a quote made through a comparison site) cashback will not be awarded.
So when it comes to insurance, don't assume you are getting a significantly better deal using the cashback sites. If you find the price does not change, please add to this thread.0 -
Like I said Sheilas wheels did the same to me. Sheilas wheels is part of Esure.0

I used all the comparison sites in Martin's article and most of them came out with LV as being the cheapest, except one - comparethemarket.com said Kwik Fit was the cheapest for me at £350. I then went via Topcashback and got a quote from Kwik Fit through them, which came out exactly the same at £350.
I was hoping to get £42 cashback and I thought it had all gone through OK, until I got a phone call from Kwik Fit to say my online application hadn't gone through (even though I had paid for it online!) and I had to do it all over the phone again, so won't be getting my cashback nowIt was still the cheapest quote for me, but the cashback would have been nice.
