Where did you hear that? I haven't heard anything from them?0

Just found this.

Bad news for low mileage motorists like me :mad:0 -
My in laws heard it on the moneybox programme and phoned me. My father in law had been interested in getting it, but as he is 70 they wouldn't insure him.0

Got a letter from NU this morning about PAYG car insurance. Just to let you know,
They have said
'For the time being, please be reassured that you will still be covered under your pay as you drive insurance.
With effect from 28/7/08 your monthly payment will be £x.xx - which represents your base premium only.
You will not be charged a usage premium and therefore will not be sent monthly statements
You will still be able to access the range of services via your in car device'
Apparently they will be contacting people in the next few week to discuss specific needs.0 -

Have just received letter from Norwich Union saying they are scrapping their PAYG Car Insurance. This is a big shame as it was saving me £20 a month on my premiums.Supposedly this is because there was not a big enough uptake for this type of insurance. It might have helped if they had actually bothered to advertise it properly!!! None of my friends even knew it had existed until I told them as it doesn't appear on comparison sites.0

As I remember, there was quite a lot of advertising in the national press just after the launch, but it doesn't always work. I think a major reason why pepole have not taken up this offer is the "Big Brother" aspect. They feel they are being snooped on. This reason doesn't hold water with me because you are being watched almost 24/7 as you drive anyway what with speed cameras, number plate recognition technology and the like. I am very sorry to lose PAYD, but pleased to have retained the SaT Nav and Safe Speed technology.0

I can't make any sense of this bl00dy car insurance quote malarky..
Just did a quote for my 17 year old son on Confused.com for a Fiat Punto 1.2 ELX 8v...2000 reg....on a FULL licence the cheapest came out at with Endsleigh at £1994.50....
I then did exactly the same quote but on a provisional licence and Endsleigh came out at £4036.11....I was led to believe it goes UP AFTER you pass your test...
Pulling my hair out here trying to get the best quote!!!!
EDIT...Just entered the same details again on the Endsleigh site and the quote has gone UP again!
Do they just make these prices up as they go along!
I just don't understand how some youngsters get insurance these days. My two youngsters' friends all seem to have their own cars - invariably they (or rather their parents) claim they don't have to pay much ifor insurance (one is a 18 year old boy, just passed his test, driving a VW golf 1.9l litre! What??).Where are these people getting their insurance??
Am I missing something?
Is it cheaper for one of the parents to insure the 'child's car' as his/her 2nd car with occaisional use only by the child? Is that cheaper?0 -

Is it cheaper? - MUCH
Is the insurnace valid? - Probably not - if the insurance company can show the younger driver is the "main driver" and not (as "purchased") an "occasional driver" they can cancel the insurance or void it in the event of a claim.I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.
