(PS I think this is because Direct Line / Privilege / Churchill are all owned by the same company - they use the same quote engine - so it easy for customer care staff to check your claim).
CB
Up until a couple of years ago DL, Privilege and Tesco all used the same quote engine - the quote pages were identical except for the different colours (and were always within a few pence of each other) but I noticed this year (for me) that Privilige were cheapest, followed by DL (~ 50% more) then Tesco (almost 100% more)
Perhaps broadening their markets?I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.

I then tried to buy the Admiral policy through moneysupermarket but couldn't so had to call them up at which point they told me that the quote was £651 and this was because I had done so many recent internet searches. Looking back this makes sense as each price comparison site gave an increasingly worse quote for Admiral.
Possible way round.... use a sudiname - Fred Flintstone or whatever, & use an address with the same postcode, and set up a special yahoo e-mail to give. Then when you're happy, use your real details.0 -
Eh? The more times you do a price comparison the more the price goes up!!!!! What's going on there?

I recall having to do similar with Direct Line and Tesco a few years ago - you could only "amend" your quote once (i.e. to see what difference adding another driver or upping annual mileage would have on the quote) before they'd give you the "you appear to be having a problem using the website, please call us" page - very frustrating
They have got better the past couple of years, but the first 3 or 4 years of doing it online was a nightmare

Hi folks
My 1st time posting in this thread, my renewal has come through at £350.00 F/C 5 years NC with RAC, is there away of me bartering with RAC, or do I have to go through all the comparison sites 1st?
CheersClick here for Martins (MSE) advice on who to contact with Debt Issues - YOU HAVE NO REASON TO USE A FEE PAYING DEBT MANAGEMENT COMPANY- THEY CANNOT DO ANYMORE FOR YOU THAN THOSE LISTED IN MY LINK ABOVE.
All information given by myself is offered informally and without prejudice - if in doubt seek help from a qualified and insured professional0 -

Can you actually barter with insurance companies.. I just leave Bell.co.uk to send my renewal through o.OAlmost..debt free.. :P:money:0 -
I have just bought my son his first car...(he doesn't know yet, so no one tell him..:))..he has his test next Friday but at the moment he has no insurance, I have bought the car and put him as the registered owner......if he has no insurance and providing he doesn't drive the car am I OK to leave the car on the road ?
I dont want to have to get insurance for him on a provisional licence today and then if he passes change it to a full licience next week......
I hope that makes sense to someone! This post was created in an area that may contain nuts!0 -
When i passed my test there was no extra insurance premium, It was simply a phone call.. With regards to leaving the car on the road it should be fine as long as its all Taxed... and you live in a decent area :PAlmost..debt free.. :P:money:0

I understand that these days when you pass your test the premiums do actually go UP..
I wasn't sure that if the car was in his name and on the road (even though it will be parked up, he doesn't know it's his, he wont have any keys yet) whether the powers that be might assume that because he owns an uninsured vehicle that he might be driving it!This post was created in an area that may contain nuts!0 -
Some insurance companies do.. its becuase they go from having a qualified person there to being on their own.. I passed in 2004 .. Normally they dont tho.. The car should be fine on the road without insurance tho.. like i say tho, thats assuming you wont have to claim for Vandalism damage in your area.. lol. Pretty sure to be parked on the road tho all it needs in Road Tax.
Best of luck with the Driving test to him, and i'd reccommend Pass Plus - My first year of insurance on my own name saved me just short of £500 with norwich union. (and SHhhh.. but i didnt do it.. Driving instructor sold me certificate for £25.. hehehe)Almost..debt free.. :P:money:0 -

AFAIK "legally" a vehicle must have valid Road Fund License AND (at least) 3rd Party Insurance cover to be kept on the highway, it doesn't need MOT AFAIK, unless it is being driven af that makes sense?!
I'm going back 11 years now, but at that time, I insured my first car with Direct Line on my provisional. There was no extra premium (or refund) when I converted to a full license after passing my test 3 months later. The logic being (AFAIK) that a "newly qualified" driver with a full license is the same risk as a "supervised" driver with a provisional license.
