I have just had my renewal notice for my Yaris from Endsleigh and they have quoted me £428.74 - now I know I have protected NCD amounting to some 12 years' worth so my question is do I protect my NCD or not? I won't be renewing with Endsleigh either as I will be using a comparison site to find cheaper and better insurance.

Does anyone know if elephant charge for paying monthly? I can't see anything on their website. If someone on here already knows it'll save me the effort of phoning them ;)

I've been with them for 2 years (well 2 x 10 months with bonus accelerator) and they have always been the cheapest when I have got online quotes. They have sneaked in an optional extra though that I didn't ask for - Personal Accident. £24 extra.

I received a quote from CIS to renew my car insurance stating £316, which was £30 up from last year. I did the comparison on step one of Martin's tip and used the figures to ask CIS to rethink their quote. (The cheapest equivalent was £60 cheaper.)

The person I spoke to said that as last year’s quote was a web initiated quote that meant that this year the quote would be increased as now they have to support the quote by telephone, and of course they can’t be as cheap as other companies because they have their call centre in the UK.

I told him that it didn’t make sense and that I might as well go back online and get a quote. So I did and got my insurance for £243 - £73 cheaper for exactly the same policy.:j

Sorry if it's been posted already, but you should be aware that if you use a comparison site to find the cheapest quote, then go to a cashback site to pay for the deal then you may not receive your advertised cashback. For example: Find your cheapest quote on confused.com - Prudential £350 fully comp for the year - then log into quidco and buy your deal with Prudential (£75 cashback at the moment). After waiting for your cashback you find out that Prudential think your referrer was confused.com and will not pay you the £75 you expect from quidco.

I am copying the following directly from quidco website:
Several members have had tracked insurance transactions declined recently, and the feedback we’re getting from the merchants indicates that in the vast majority of these cases, the transactions were declined because they were not valid sales *through Quidco* because commission was paid to another referrer. This is not implying that a particular sale itself wasn’t a real purchase; it is saying that the sale was not referred to the merchant by Quidco.
We cannot stress strongly enough how crucial it is that Quidco be the referrer for the sale in order for us to be paid commission, so we can pass that commission on to the member as cashback.
We have seen advice encouraging folks to use comparison sites to find the lowest insurance quote, then go to a cashback site such as Quidco to make the purchase in order to get cashback on top of the low premium.
We understand that members shop around for the best price, but we must point out that doing this through other sites can lead to problems with Quidco cashback.
When you go through a comparison site, they are hoping to earn commission for your new policy purchase. So when you get a quote, they will track their own transaction to the merchant for that quote. Then if you come to Quidco and buy the policy, our transaction for the purchase also tracks to the merchant. So when the merchant looks at the sale, they see two marketing channels (or more, depending on how many sites were used) competing for the commission on the sale. A marketing channel could be other affiliate link sites, display ads, Google searches or even offer specific URLs. Only one of those channels will be awarded that commission.

I would think if it happens with quidco, it may also happen with other sites. I'm sure there must be a way to still get the best deal via a comparison site and also to get the best cashback deal, but I'm no expert and am hoping someone else can point us in the best direction for this.

Hi, my car insurance is about to run out so i am currently looking around for car insurance, when getting a quote from churchill's website it asks for Period licence held? is this from provisional or from when i passed my driving test to get a full uk licence.

Also i got my car in june 2006 on a provisional licence and insured it with churchill and passed my test in december 2006 to get a full licence, if Period licence held starts from when you passed the driving test would i have 2 years no claims and 1 year Period licence held or does no claims discount only start when you have passed your test?

    thanks

    Hi All,

We have recently acquired a second car. The 'old' car is now exactly that, probably used once every couple of weeks. I am the registered keeper of both cars.

We are due to renew insurance on the 'old' car soon and do not want to fall into the 'fronting' trap however despite me being the registered keeper, my OH will be the main driver (I'm unlikely to need to drive it at all, but would probably go on the policy just in case).

How do we go about renewing in a legit manner as cheaply as possible? My OH is older than me but I have protected no claims whereas he had a fault accident last year. I was also wondering about the level of cover we need - I think we still need comprehensive in terms of payouts for any repairs to our car as it's still pretty expensive to repair if we did have an accident, however for example do we need legal cover as we have this with our house insurance so wondering if we could use that if necessary?

    Any hints/tips gratefully received!

Period held is from when you passed your test and became a full driver, anything before is ignored. If the insurance was in your name then you should now have 2 years NCB - you can contact your insurer for your NCB certificate if you are going to move insurers. It should be worth checking with them though, as they may may not consider you to have the full NCB if you were not road legal, depending on their own rules.

My daughter was paying £1,400 pa for insuring a Clio with an 18 year old driver (not the main driver) with Endesliegh. One of his friends said his family were only paying around £600 for him to drive the family Volvo-this was with NFU. The quote from NFU was only £400!!. Daughter is still in shock.
NFU does not seem to appear on any of the comparison sites.
I have now had some feedback from various friends and neighbours who all rate them very highly.
I think like most people we thought they only dealt with the farming communities. However I think they have a web site but you cannot get the insurance on line-have to do it by phone.
I am certainly getting a quote from them for my ancient Toyota and also home insurance.
I used to be on a local committee and we used NFU for public liability insurance and it was hundreds cheaper then anyone else
