Last year thanks to this site, I got my car insurance for £102 from the Post Office (£152 - £50 cashback). Their renewal quote was £118 so I use all the comparison sites and got quotes under £100. I phoned the Post Office and told them I wasn't going to renew and they offered me £131 - £50 cashback = £81 and they are only supposed to offer cashback to new customers so it pays to haggle! Thanks
I just got my quote for fully comp from the post office, I have 7 yrs pnc, social domestic pleasure only, 60yrs old, (me that is ) £500 v exsess,4year old astra 1.7 deisel ctdi 5 seats , kept on drive, with immobiliser, 8000 miles per year, max,no other drivers, I drive nothing else, never been refused insurance, no other convictions no health problems, asked for a hire car, no breakdown cover, and the post office was the most expensive at £348, what am I doing wrong?

Hi Hope someone might be able to help me with this question.

I cancelled my insurance policy some 10 months ago as i had no need of the car due to bing provided with hire cars through work.
I still have access to these cars but am thinking of getting myself a two seater :D (yes i know it's my age)

My question is, i have a letter from the last insurers stating that i am entitled to over 10 years no claims. Is there a time limit to this and will a new insurer say that it dosn't count because it was 10 months ago????

Thanks in advance for any help.

Most insurance companies will allow you to use no claims bonus proof within a 2 year period after which it expires and you lose it completely - hope this helps.

My car insurance is up for renewal and someone has told me it is not worth protecting your no claims (I have the 9 years). Does anyone know if this is the case. My car is 10 years old. Appreciate any help.

Depends on the price of protecting it but if you do have a fault claim and its not protected depending on the insurance company they could reduce your ncd to as little as 3 years.

Although, just because your NCD is protected, it doesn't mean your premium won't go up. You still have to declare claims, and Insurers still assess you by risk including claims that are 'protected'. They just say you have x number of years NCD on paper, and they usually ask if you've had any claims which are protected anyway. A bit of a swizz really, but for an extra £30 or so, I usually opt for it.

It'll probably be your postcode. Mine hits me hard

What on earth is this supposed mean? I understand that TPFT will be cheaper - obviously - what does "get life back by taking insurance to car" mean?

am looking for advice, my husband reversed into another car a few days ago there was no one around nd he could not identify whos car it was. the damage was not even the size of a 5p dent. he left his mobile number on the car for owner to contact him. he has then ended up in hospital with chest infection and severe asthma attacks not noticing his phone is off. we have just turned it on to a very nasty msg saying she and another witnessed the accident and the police have been involved.

if i saw someone hitting my car i think i would have went out straight away to deal with it?? also why would he have left his details if he wasnt willing to get this sorted. where do we stand in this he is worried and its not helping him being ill???
What's for you won't go past you

Sorry to hear that. I wouldn't worry too much - if it's only the size of a 5p piece then they should be able to get that fixed through a dent repair centre and not really have to get the insurance company involved. They may be trying to get it settled out of insurance and try to con you for a ridiculous amount of money. If you've left your mobile number (which you obviously did) then tbh, the police wouldn't care less! You've already admitted to you being at fault so I'm not really sure what the other person's issues are. If they're reasonable about it they shouldn't really care where it gets fixed, so I'd have a look at http://www.chipsaway.co.uk/smartrepairs/ and see whether these can help - they'll be a lot cheaper than what their insurance company will say. I hope that helps in some way and again don't worry - just call the person, apologise, explain the situation with your husband and I'm sure they'll be reasonable about it.

They should actually be pleased that you bothered to leave your contact details as many people don't. I've got a dent in the side of my car - obviously from someone opening their car door into mine - and no note was left.
  • I have recently inherited a Toyota Prius, which I had intended on selling but have now decided to keep. I already have a car but it's looking to me that it would be better for my partner to become the main driver so that I can use my 6 years no claims bonus on the Prius to bring the insurance down to a manageable level. (As it would just be me on the insurance he would be using the other car much more than me).

I purchased insurance (via Quidco) from Swiftcover in June and they are just not quoting anything near a reasonable amount to change the insurance. If I cancel this policy will it have implications with the cashback? (which I have received).

I am not yet the registered keeper of the new car as we weren't sure what we were doing with the car. I would like to know what I put down as the date of the vehicle purchase. Do I put the date it was bought or the date I inherited it as this is coming up with quite different prices!

Also, will it be dishonest to get insurance for the car before the V5 comes back from the DVLA or is sending the paperwork off enough? If not I was looking at Budget's tempcover as we really need to keep the battery going (the RAC have just come to jump start it)

I am thinking of insuring the car with ibuyeco or More Than as they are quoting me the best price.

I would appreciate any thoughts on this!
