I got a quote yesterday and when I went in today to confirm and pay it had gone up £30! Youch.0 -
does anyone do cheap student car insurance?sieze the carp0

Not long got my renewel (Direct Line) and it was a whopping £807.45 which included 7 yrs No Claims Discount, NCD protection & Moter Legal Protection....last year it was only £388.50 again including one yr less NCD and protection fees.
The premium has more than doubled in a year yet I have had no claims in that year.
Contacting them direct I queried why this happened and they told me it was because there was a lot of accidents with this vehicle (N reg Toyota Estime Lucida MPV)...Am I being penalised for other drivers mistakes? I've researched the car and nothing shows up as high incidents etc. So am not sure why the price hike!
I am currently signed off sick and only recieve £135.00 a fortnight. I need the car to see my kids and take them and my dog out so need the best price possible to pay monthly.
Please help!! Thanks0 -

I think (I might be wrong) that the car you have is a grey import eg it's not a standard car that is UK spec. This can sometimes mean that claims for Insurers are much more expensive than normal due to them struggling to get parts which can push the repair costs up0 -
Got my car insurance due this month and now ive got 4 Yrs, i can protect these but Very expensive with Direct Line
Currently paying around £65 P/M
New quote - adding on extra £140 ish for protected no claims, comes to £814 Annual / £896 paying Monthly
Mums car due day after mine, so thats with Multi Car Discount too!
Im finding it hard to do quotes online too
I Passed my test July 07, But got my car (and 1st insurance) in Dec 06, and 1st years was with Elephant (10 month policy, 1 yrs no claims)
So when putting my details in Online, If i put 3 yrs (officially passed) im losing 1 yr and chance to get them protected.
But have 4 yrs worth of no claims insurance too! hmmMake £10 a day Challenge June - £1700 -
You only get awarded no claims bonus for completed years of policy ownership (ie you have been the policyholder for x years).
If your first policy (in your name) was bought in December 09, then you can only have one year's NCB when you renew it (asuming no claims during the policy year)0 -
