yeah thats right man. all these insurance companies just be good during selling their insurance ,they get tough for not paying the premium on time. and when the time comes to give our claimed money they act as if we are begging them for their money.there are comparison sites which give you a detailed analysis on insurance.just look around and you ll get it!0

OK this seems a bit strange but thought I should pass this on to others.
Like many people I tend to have to change insurer every year as the renewal quotes are nearly always hundreds of pounds more than can be had elsewhere.
Last year I joined Aviva and provided proof of 8 years NCB. Now we get to renewal time and they have hiked my premium by £200 so I do the shop around routine.
I find a quote for much less than the Aviva renewal so sign up quoting 9 years NCB. Aviva however will only provide proof of 5 years NCB as they say it is all they take into concideration so all they keep records of. So no matter how much NCB you have when you join Aviva, 12 months later you only have 5 years.
I have asked them for a copy of my 8 years proof but they say they distroy it after 30 days so I am left with only 5 years NCB which is going to cost me £400 -

While that is a common occurence re insurers that give max discount after 5 or 6 no claim years when I had similar problem the ex insurer was able to go back 12 months ( kept on microfilm) for previous no claims proof supplied showing 9 years NCD.0 -
I downgraded my car as I expected my insurance renewal quote to be high! I went from a '96 MK3 Golf Gti to '99 Ford Fiesta 1.25. The quote for the golf was going to jump from £450 to £750ish with Zurich Connect.
I'm now paying £440 with Santander for the Fiesta. Best quote and a free Tom Tom!Thanks to all who post comps!

Yes, this happened to me at my renewal a couple of months ago. I still have my old documents for proof if needed.
What concerns me most about this year's renewal is the fact that some insurers are now insisting on a continual payment basis either by credit card or debit card.
Now I don't know about you but I change insurer every year to whoever is cheapest so I will have to be on my guard next year to cancel before they get a chance to push it through automatically.
Apart from the car insurance I also got free breakdown cover with mine this year so I'm expecting them to add this to the bill as well next year. There wasn't an option to say no to it either.
I think this is scandalous and lots of people will be getting caught out if they don't realise.:mad:0 -

You get sent your renewal notice and policy details each year.
I don't think it's scandalous that you are expected to read it and check it every 12 months.
If it no longer suits your needs then you should change it.
I think it's scandalous that people expect not to read their post and their insurers to have ESP and know what they want.
BTW - I don't work in insurane, I just belive in being acquainted with the agreements I make.0 -
Car insurers are leaving it later and later to send renewal documents in the hope that apathy will take over and people will just renew anyway.0
-
Yes they are leaving it later than ever, and sometimes it is hard to actually extract a renewal notice from them. My niece had this difficulty recently. It was imperative that she obtains the renewal notice so that the 'no claims' detail can be passed onto her new insurer. She's only 23 and has only been driving for 1 year and so it is crucial that the 'no claims' proof is provided.
I don't like these continual payment mandates that insurers like to invoke in order to help themselves to your bank account. They ought to be outlawed unless you specifically select that you wish to pay in this way.0 -

Yes I agree that insurers do employ cynical tactics.
Customers are also apathetic as you say.
That's their own choice, but if you want the best deals then you have to be a bit more pro-active.
If any paperwork I'm expecting doesn't arrive on time then I chase it up. Being uninsured is too much of a risk to take so it should carry some priority. It's not difficult to pick up the phone if the letter doesn't come.0 -

There are rules regarding sending renewal notices to client that all insurers and brokers are supposed to abide by. All customers should receive a motor insurance renewal notice no less than 21 days before their policy expires.I am an Insurance & Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it.
