I am due to renew my car insurance this month, have a renault megane Y reg. LAst year I insured through Sheilas Wheels via Go Compare at a cost of £221 paid in monthly instalments. No hassle on the phone just confirmed details and all was set up and away to go.
Well they have just sent me my renewal price for this year (nothing has changed)..well I expected it to have gone up a little but the price they have given me is £752 . Off the comparison web sites and have been quoted £221 by the AA.
I phoned Sheilas Wheels and asked if they could match it and was told that " they have to pass on the costs of rising insurance to their customers, but it was NO REFELECTION ON ME!!!!!"
Well I have been telling friends and family about the huge rise and guess what..................all those that have had a years insurance with Sheilas Wheels have had a huge increase for the second year and one is still waiting to get her claim sorted out after months.
So my advice is be aware that they may be fine for tghe first year but after that be prepared to change quickly.0 -
i've just done i dont know how many online quotes and they all seem to be about the same cost any other tips to get my premium down. and could anyone tell me why the hell i'm getting penalized for an accident that wasnt my fault its an extra £50 driving me up the wall
thank you for any comments
Sadly this will always be the case. It wasn't your insurance company's fault either, but they incurred costs as a result of your claim. They are increasing your premium because they incurred administrative costs in chasing the third party's insurance company and settling the claim for you. Yes I know this is exactly what we pay them for and the whole point of having a policy, but their justification will be they have to recoup those costs in some way - hence the higher premium.
Sorry, you've just got to wear it for a couple of years until it becomes an insignificant factor.0 -
does anyone do cheap student car insurance?
Try Endsleigh within your Student Union building, or at www.endsleigh.co.uk. They're owned and managed by the NUS specifically in order to provide a not-for-profit cheap insurance service to students in the UK (though they welcome the opportunity to quote for anyone).0 -
Has anyone else has any problems using the 'Nectar Insurance provided through Confused.com' bonus points scheme?
Following Martin's link and clicking through the correct link on the click-through page I just enter the main Confused.com site, whereupon entering my details (either (1) by entering my account and amending last year's quote, or (2) creating a new quote as if I were a first time user) at no point does Confused ask me for my Nectar card number, which is a requirement of the bonus points scheme.
How can I be sure I subsequently receive the points?0 -

They are owned by Zurich Insurance, they used to be owned by the NUS0 -
My daughter and my insurance came up for renewal, and after using moneysupermarket and go compare there was not much differance in the price we got quoted from our insurance company from 'Tesco'
but i found
'ASDA Online Exclusive Car Insurance'
http://www.asdafinance.com/insurance/car-insurance/
to be a lot cheaper and with breakdown recovery for no additional cost, so Asda was £40-£60 cheaper with the below free as well
'Breakdown cover included for cars under 8 years old'
You will be provided with a high level of cover, including:- Roadside repairs
- Home breakdown
- Vehicle recovery
- Getting you to your destination

Just renewed mine through CSIS and it's come out a whopping £240 less than my renewal quote with More Than!!!!! :j And 0% for direct debit.
Got fully comp, with legal cover inc, breakdown, £50 excess, for only £359 for a 1999 406 HDi, and I'm not even a civil servant. (But the wife is and she's named on the policy before anyone asks.)
Well chuffed. That's my mutt in the picture above.0 -
Just a quick bit of info on my last insurance quotes for me and my partner..
Last year for me i paid £520 to elephant she paid 540 to Zurich
This years best qoutes on the search sites were for me £680 and her £760 that is with no change to either of our circumstances...
Thus i tried to lower both...
By chance i came across Admirals Multicar policys which im delighted to say came in at
£419 for me and £572 for her...
A massive saving i might add...
Just amazed how much car insurance has gone up this year( one of the operators quoted me as much as a %34 rise due to market conditions how true that is i dont know)
If you do drive two cars or more the Admiral Multi Car is worth a look...0 -
If you're a newish driver it is possible to offset the raise in insurance costs by using your no claims. So if you're current place has gone up, try going elsewhere and ask for a no claims discount. I used this trick with the Go Compare and found a company called Budget Insurance were the cheapest this way, worked out much better than renewing with Churchill.0

Hi All
I am only 21 years old – and have just inherited a 2006 116i SE BMW 1 Series Car.
The car was brought 2 months ago for £10,000.
Is it best that I am the main driver with my mum, dad and brother as named drivers. Or is it better that I am a named driver under my mum/dad???. Mum has 9 years no claims.
Can someone please help me find some cheap insurance – what companies are my best bets. I really cannot afford any more than £2000.0
