Learners_Guide wrote: »Why is it so hard to find the best insurance company for young drivers? I was trying to find the best value insurer to recommend on my learner driver website and i-kube was offering 40% off for 17-25 year olds providing they have a GPS fitted to restrict them driving between 11pm and 5am, but what are their quotes like in the first place?
Try Admiral Insurance. My son, age 19, had a good quote from them.0 -
Got my renewal through for over £800 (paid £300 last year!) Clearly was not amused...went on comparison websites and managed to get a better deal (£0 voluntary excess) with the same company for £340...how does that work???
Don't get me wrong not complaining at the deal I got just wondering why I had to prat about on the web to get it??? (When the man from insurance company rang he did say I would get a better deal online but I never imagined he meant I could save almost £500!!!
Through my searchings I discovered online quote systems don't like it if you have more NCD than years of holdnig a license...I have 6 years NCD and have only had my license for 2 (bought a car and insured it before passing test + free NCD from previous insurers!)0 -
It's very rare that you won't beat your renwal if you re-quote online.
I refuse to re-new though if the company offer to price match, if they think I'm that stupid they don't deserve my business. Loyalty must mean something different to insurance companies.
I go through a cashback site normally as well, and get another £40 or so as well.0 -
Experienced Admiral's Multi car policy last year. Excessive correspondence from them and I needed to make changes to correct certain info, but a good price at the time. The renewal came thro' automatically this year and we began to trawl the comparison sites. Admiral came out close to the best value for the individual cars but at a lesser value than their multi-car renewal! when I phoned to discuss this I was advised to go to their own website for a multi-car quote. The resultof yet another phone call to Admiral? - a final saving of over £999 against their original renewal quote on 4 vehicles.:j0

Until recently i was happy as a named driver on my wife's car insurance policy. I now need to purchase a car & obtain insurance in my own name but have found that after approx 14 years as a named driver, I have 0 No Claims - nice!!!!
I'm looking at buying a VW Polo 1.4se W reg cost approx £1600, quotes are upwards of £450. Does anyone know how I can get these quotes reduced. Thanks:mad:0 -

I see your point and agree totally...but I know in the past I have never saved over £500 on a single car policy!0 -

It seems a really odd policy, but you're not alone in posting ridiculous renewal rates.
Possibly the insurance companies think you will be shopping around anyway, so they are trying it on hoping to fleece the ones that don't, combined with others missing the "auto-renew" and paying the new premium without realising until too late.
If it was genuine they couldn't afford to pricematch, and the other companies couldn't afford to offer it in the first place.
The loss leader for the first year is nonsense, as they know they are offering the insurance to a customer who is moving to get a cheap price, and will most likely do the same next renewal as well, so they can't be hoping to all their profit next year.0 -
is it just me but this year going through cash back sites the quotes are higher than the results via comparison sites alone ..0
