Hello
Before I ring Churchill I just want to know if anyone has had any joy with reopening car insurance?
I cancelled yesterday over the phone but now have another car lined up so want to just update insurance information now.
I doubt whether they would allow this but at the end of the day I will go with another insurer if they don't accpet as others are offering cheaper for 12 month cover
thanks.0 -
My mum has been on my insurance for 4 years as second driver and before this she worked for a car rental company. Basically she hasn't been policy holder since about mid 90s.
She's never had an accident so surely she must have no claims accrued?
Does anyone know how insurance companies operate in these situations?0 -
Any NCD that she accrued in the 90s will now be out of date, and of no use.
She could see if a local broker can get her an introductory discount to reflect her driving experience.0 -

No, once the policy has been cancelled then they will not re-open it. They will just quote you on a brand new 12 month policy.0 -
my daughters insurance is due for renewal next week, and i have been quoted £257.
i was asked if she was in employment which i said yes, but she is not in employent , lost her job 6 weeks ago and not claiming any benefits as she hopes to get a job without claiming anything, can she not just put down what she does without telling them she is unemployed at the moment? other wise insurance is £483 :-(
How many people ring up when they are made unemployed to tell their insurance company they are no longer working?0 -
You shouldn't be completing your daughter's application - it will be no defence if the insurer discovers there are fraudulent answers to their questions and void the policy.
She is bound by the policy conditions to inform them of changes in occupation (amongst other things) as soon as they happen.0 -
i just used a search engine and phoned up to see if it was the right price they quoted.0

Hi i am not sure if this is the appropriate forum but any help would be much appreciated. I recently took out car insurance with AutoDirect i got my quote online and gave all appropriate information including that my car is kept at a different address during the week due to work location and at home address at the weekend. However 4 weeks after commencing my policy i have now received notification that i have an additional premium of £800 to pay on top of my annual premium of £500 they state that this is due to a change in my policy. However on contacting them they confirmed that i provided them with all the details correctly originally and the issue is a dispute with their underwriters regarding my original quote.
Where do i stand regarding this additional premium as i took the insurance out on the basis of quote of £500, i have a confirmation email with the 2 addresses that i live at with the £500 premium stated!!0 -
Having previously had motor insurance with swinton I thought that it would be a good idea to receive a quotation for my motor insurance renewal.
On the 17th August 2010 I requested a quotation for a fully comprehensive motor policy with protected no claims bonus that was due for renewal in the next few weeks. I had had a quotation from my current insurer and wanted to receive a quotation from Swinton.
I called the Chatham call centre and spoke to a salesman who took all the details of my requirement.
He gave me a cost of £326.32 which I accepted. However when I received the documentation in the post the following day I noted that the quotation was for comprehensive cover without the protected no claims bonus.
I immediately contacted them by telephone and he said that there must have been a misunderstanding. He said that I would need to pay a higher figure. I told him that I would not go ahead with the new quotation that was something like an additional £30.
I feel that the saleman intentionally got me to accept the original quotation because of the attractive quote offered and clearly did not expect me to read the policy document and spot the error.
He has now advised me that there is a cancellation charge to be paid of £50. They got the policy wrong and want me to compensate them?
In addition I received in the post on the 20th August another policy document for Personal Accident . This was not required nor requested. When they told me about the personal accident cover which I thought he was referring to the drivers legal protection shown on the motor policy document. At no time did I understand that he was talking about a completely different policy.
I feel that I have become a victim of some very sharp practice.
I have looked at various web site forums that have a common thread about mistakes on policies by Swinton and that this is always put down to clerical error or misunderstanding. It is also noted on the forums that the complaint team are well versed in this type of complaint and it is the customer who ends up on the wrong side of this.
Should I take this to the FSA and Citizens' Advice + go for any money they take from me vis the small claims court?
That sounds odd, they shouldn't be able to charge you for cancelling in your cooling off period regardless of whether there was a mistake or not."A bank* is a place where they lend you an umbrella in fair weather and ask for it back when it begins to rain."
(*Unless it's Santander. The branch says they sent you an umbrella 3 times already and don't understand why you don't have it yet and want it back right now!!!)0 -
Its renewal time for me next week and not having had my renewal through from my insurer I phoned them this morning (been away for a week)
My renewal has come in at £732 (last year was £340) with £150 compulsary xs, £0 vol xs, protected NCD, legal expenses
I had an accident in Mar this year (my fault, no other involved, £2500) which I claimed on my policy but also was involved in another accident in my husbands car in Mar as well
This accident is still outstanding as the 3rd party is refusing to admit liability so our insurance companies are bouncing back and forth:mad:
What do I declare this one as?
Also having tried both moneysupermarket and comparethemarket websites - 1st central is coming out the cheapest (by about £100) - are they any good? the quotes are ranging from £490 to well over £10000
