  • PC-Pro have reported that it is easy to get access to extensive personal data entered by other people on Comparethemarket and Confused by using basic information such as someone's email address, surname and date of birth.

  • My daughter who is 20 did car insurance comparison via gocompare.com site
She decided to opt for the YES car insurance policy after entering her details.
It came up with £150 excess on the main comparison page.
She bought the insurance and when she downloaded the PDF policy document it said there would be an additional £200-£250 excess on top of the £150 because she is under 25.
    This is a total con.
Her DOB was entered on the quote, therefore the excess should have appeared on the main quote page.
Should the FSA not investigate this?
Also as you said , there would have been a £20 charge if she cancelled straight away.

The £150 would be a "voluntary" excess. The young persons excess would apply to all taking out that policy, not just your daughter. It would be the same with most other insurers.
  • Can anyone explain to me why car insurance has doubled. I have heard that prices have been rising but this is a joke. I paid £275. last year and the cheapeast quote i have so far is £570. my detail remain the same apart from having 1 more NCB taking my ncb to eight.
  • Hi
Thanx for your reply. Yes i understand the £150 is the voluntary excess, but the "young person excess" was not clearly apparent. Also having subsequently contacted one of the other insurers they said that they did not apply a young persons excess. If we had only known that beforehand!!!

I would be very surprised if the other Insurer did not apply a young drivers excess as it is common throughout the industry. I think the person you spoke to miss led you or did not know what they were talking about.

Who are the other Insurers ?
  • It was IBUYECO insurance.
Also the previous year was Endsleigh insurance and they did not have the young person excess either.:(
  • Done all the comparson websites, my details havent changed from last year, but quotes are coming out nearly £200 dearer than last year! I paid £316 last year and this year quotes are coming out at £480+. I dont understand it.

Ibuyeco are part of the Budget group so are in effect a broker (and a bad one at that), as such it could be one of many Insurers they would have quoted so we can't look it up for you unless you know which Insurer they quoted you with.

I would avoid Ibuyeco or any of the Budget group of companies
  • Why is it so hard to find the best insurance company for young drivers? I was trying to find the best value insurer to recommend on my learner driver website and i-kube was offering 40% off for 17-25 year olds providing they have a GPS fitted to restrict them driving between 11pm and 5am, but what are their quotes like in the first place?
