Hi everyone!
Wowsers Ali, I can't believe it was mainly empty boxes!!! What a relief for you to get shot of the storage unit I bet. :T
Hi ditty - ah, I see, can totally imagine it wouldn't work for that. Probably best reserved for kids bringing home A2 posters and parents feeling guilty for binning them.
Hi Yorkshirelass, nice to hear from you
Here's me:
- View one final house today to confirm our suspicions that we're better off staying here
- Clean the kitchen (why does it always get messy again?! :rotfl:)
- Read free ebook
- Sort YNAB
- Not washing my hair
- Made my own weedkiller - 5l white vinegar, cup of fairy liquid, cup of salt
- Need to phone mortgage peeps back
Shame the weather is so pants today as I got quite into a bit of gardening yesterday evening.
Righto, have a good Friday everyone! Catch up over the weekend.0 -
Morning all,
Just popping a quick list up before I make my coffee. Wet weather today, already had a bit of thunder too, so no gardening or outdoor tasks by the looks of things. Am also saving my usual big Friday vacuum till tomorrow as mr f has offered to help me move furniture & generally have a bit more of a 'pre-guests arriving' blitz than we would normally bother with. So only bits & bobs today, then some leisure time!
*Write shopping list - have made a start on it.
*Decide what to bake for guests next weekend - one has a birthday the next day, so I think a birthday cake we can all share will defo be one item.
*Picked more tomatoes.
*Dealt with a tomato emergency.
*Emailed solicitor for a general update & reassurance that something that was overlooked has now been done.
*Cleaned bathroom. Used last of my spray bottle of Stardrops solution. Didn't make any more up, as intend to use up the stash of cleaning products I brought from Mum's house. The aren't things I'd usually buy, but it just felt so wrong from a plastics points of view to bin full & half full bottles.
*Changed meal plans for tonight when mr f asked me how he was expected to make jacket wedges from..........precisely NO potatoes!! Hmmmm. Salmon, Cranks macro-rice & salad it is, then!
*Did a Prolific survey. That little pot is starting to mount up nicely again.
*Transferred the money we saved for our new BBQ to our current account & paid it off my 'just for points' credit card. Can see I now have sufficient points for another £5 voucher when they next pay out.
*General admin/filing/tidying/bin emptying/pottering around doing stuff.
And that, Frugalistas, will be about it on the MSE front today.
F x2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!0 -
Morning all!
I'm in the office on my own today, which normally I don't like. But today it works in my favour! Apparently I didn't set an alarm last night and woke up 20 mins before I was meant to be at work (bearing in mind its a 20 min drive)! But instead of rushing straight out the door, I did actually still stop to make my lunch!
Today I have /will:
Squeeze out toothpaste tube which OH has already move on from (3 days worth now!)
Make lunch
Check banks
Update spreadsheet (interest now been added)
Check OnePoll
Check Prolific Academic
Go to gym at lunch
Look into paella rice (is this a necessary thing or would normal rice work?!)
Pop to Mr T for 2 things
Snap receipt
Make to do list for weekend (including sorting out left over car boot bits to see if there's anything I can sell on eBay instead)
Dinner from stores
OH is off today so left him a load of washing to do - hope he does it on 30 degree eco (in my rush I didn't turn it on) and hang on airer!
Think that's everything for today. Hoping the rest of my day goes smoother!Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89
Current debt - £5,100
Total paid off - £10,500.89 (67% paid off)0 -
Afternoon all, I've missed a couple of days but just spent a lovely 10 minutes catching up on everyones news.
We've had a busy few days inc ds2s birthday but this afternoon I need to get back on top of things as we go away on Monday.
So todays list
# gym session and water bottle refilled
# played badminton with the kids, much happier paying the student rate
# kids having left overs from last night for their lunch, they'd have fajitas every day if they could!
# continuing use up - taken mackerel out of the freezer to make fish cakes this afternoon as I also have potatoes that are sprouting mash is done just waiting for it to cool
# check melting moments recipe... if it doesn't need egg which I don't think it does I will make a batch of them as I want to finish off the stork out of the fridge (I only have one egg and need that for the fishcakes)
no eggs needed so made a big batch which used up the stork and some of the dried cranberries I didn't remember buying
# take mince out of the freezer, will make a spag bol using all left over bits and pieces of fresh veg and stuff from the freezer. done, smells lovely
# check banking/update spreadsheet and make sure money is in the right pots ready for holidays
# iron just what needs doing hang away the rest
# wash a load of dh's work shirts and hang inside to dry as the weather is bad here
# start return process for something I've changed my mind about from amzn
And taken to the post office
** picked up library books ready for ds1 to take on holiday - love our library
** printed off a cex voucher on reclaimed paper
** rm surveys done
Thats my start. Hopefully I'll get more done though.
Take care all.Sticking with the "Small things" thread to keep up us on the straight and narrow.

Hehehe
Four days later I notice that on Monday I posted on last week's thread! Just goes to prove what my head gets like sometimes.
It has not been a frugal week. I have been stressed and I have spent money. Uniform buying on Monday, friend visiting on Tuesday and then London on Wednesday and yesterday with the kids. It has been a better week than last week but I am still tired, and I'm not feeling very well in general. The hols are half done and I am as exhausted as I was 3 weeks ago. Must try harder :rotfl:
There are no further travels planned for this holiday so that should help getting things back on track.
I have started today with a nsd and some decluttering, plus a catch up with bestie. That's about all I can manage today. Not giving up
Working hard to pay off my debt
Time to take back control

Evening all

So pleased you had a nice time in London CCL
Just got back from Lidl, made OH come too, as I decided to stock up a bit. Spent just over £42, so nothing too drastic, but it was mainly tins and other heavy bits. Now unpacked and crammed into larder, fridge and freezer as appropriate.
Other things:
Pickled the shallots that I had salted overnight
Made a big pan of ratatouille to use up some of the courgette mountain. Used the couple of aubergines and bag of YS peppers that I got yesterday, some onions and a bulb of HG garlic too
Had some for lunch - and dinner
- because it was so nice, and froze the rest.
Made a batch of scones
Picked some rhubarb, baked it and made a rhubarb crumble with about half of it. The rest has gone in the freezer. You can imagine the state of my freezers again  but it is mostly home grown or home cooked stuff.
Done about a tonne of washing up, and the dishwasher has been on twice as well - that is the only trouble with cooking as far as I am concerned
I now have to go outside and tip the water out of the tomato pots' saucers so that they don't drown (once I have drunk my coffee), and note down tonight's spends. My spreadsheet could probably do with updating as well. Other than that, I am planning an earlyish night.0 -
Hi August Austerity-Fans,
We are continuing with our Detach Declutter De-stress mission. I am tired: managed to get a lie on the sofa at work during my break.
One more nightshift and then I have four days off.
Debt-Free-Nillionaire Continuity Plan Year Five:
* Check online banking. Done.
* Check on two camera lenses advertised on eBay for DW. Done.
* Continue my Challenge 500 miles challenge to travel 500 miles for free before the end of 2019: walking, hiking, climbing, cycling, running and swimming. I'm up to 304/500. None today.
*Crawl out of bed between nightshifts and try to sell three kitchen appliances down at our storage unit. Done! All three buyers showed up and bought! Thrilled! We're on schedule to lose the unit on Monday. And I remembered that we paid a deposit on the unit which I think is refundable!
* Contact my pension people. Done.

Morning all :hello:
Hope you are all safe and have power in these terrible storms/winds. Thankfully just heavy rain here. My list for today:
Going to see about a new kitchen  this is a considered purchase so we shall be maximising our budget and sticking to it. Will not be purchasing today as we need to think about it to make sure it's right.
Popping to another town as DH has appointment this afternoon. Will visit plastic free shop and stock up on a few supplies to save me paying postage through someone else. Will take containers with me :A
Use free coffee and cake rewards whilst in town
Dry some washing done overnight, possibly airer inside if it looks too blowy out
Make cake
Pick raspberries and blueberries
Triage fridge
Have a good day all. Purps.0 -
Morning all

Ooh a new kitchen Purps, that is exciting :jMyDD2 is in the process of getting one (much needed) and DD1 in the process of converting an old building into a house  which is even more exciting and makes me restless, and want to either do some major work here or preferably move - though neither are likely!
Ally, well done on emptying your storage unit. What are you going to do with the money you save? More travels?
So, windy here and more rain likely, so today's plans:
Used up bits and pieces from fridge for breakfast
Froze some of the scones I made yesterday afternoon
Pick any veg and fruit that are ready (there are bound to be more courgettes )
Some housework
Sort out spending diary and spreadsheet which I have still not updated
All food from home. No spends planned but OH is going out so is bound to spend
Sort out freezers which are driving me mad! Need to rearrange so that I can find things!
All pretty boring really

Like Dawn I have a courgette mountain so I have got some pasta sauce bubbling away. I might put the breadmaker on and make pizza. DS1 has unexpectedly arrived home for the weekend so its tempting to treat him with a takeaway or a meal out but I am going to be strict with myself.
Holding off on doing laundry because I usually put it over the airer in DSs bedroom if its raining and he is currently asleep in there so it will have to wait!
Went into town this morning and wandered around the cheap shops picking up a few bits for DS2 to take to Uni. We resisted coffee and cake while we were out.
So I am doing OK this week. Have had to buy a new bike light, and I did buy DS1 a slow cooker, so £30 spent on those two, but have got some study time to claim from work which will cover that.0
