Santander MasterCard Debit Card

Weird that as I got a MasterCard debit card when my Visa card expired at the end of June.Highland76 said:
It seems they're still issuing Visa debit cards, at least for new customers. Applied for a new Everyday Current Account last week (backup current account) and just received a Visa debit card in the post today.hedgehog01 said:I think I might have one of the last Santander Visa Cards, judging by this forum. Valid from 04/20.

^^^ I did say new customers
After speaking to Santander the only way I can get a mastercard is by reporting my Visa card as lost or damaged. Weird that they’re not supplying new current account customers with a mastercard right from the beginning. 0 -
Who is your debit Mastercard issuer?Deleted_User said:I know one thing, when I use a debit MasterCard at a Post Office branded cash machine, it always comes up on the screen that my bank may charge me for using this service, Never does though. This doesn't happen with Visa debit cards.
That message is normally due to the debit card issuer being too lazy to bother joining LINK.0 -

They haven't bothered joining LINK - so if they issued Visa Debit cards you'd likely get the same message.Deleted_User said:

What's the benefits/reasons for joining Link if you could be kind enough to explain? Thanksdahj said:

Access to all LINK ATMs and related functionality - many will accept Mastercard/Cirrus but some won't.notveryeducated said:

Non-LINK cards seem a bit more buggy at UK ATMs too but that might just be my experience.

PayPoint ATMs seem to be the ones that cause problems for me - certainly all the bank and supermarket branded ones (possibly excluding Aldi), as well as CashZone and NoteMachine ones are fine.dahj said:

I've actually had issues with Lloyds machines so far. They don't always like the card on first attempt and spit out saying not accepted then work fine on the second. The balance functionality seems a bit hit or miss too.WillPS said:

Sounds more like a slightly dodgy reader/card/both than an acceptance issue.dahj said:
