New card arrived this morning. It's Visa.
Valid from: 08/19
Expires end: 04/21
Valid for 21 months.
My previous Santander card was valid for 4 years.
My guess is that Santander's move to Mastercard has been delayed; and their current agreement with Visa ends after April 2021, therefore they can't issue cards that are valid beyond that date.0 -

The change date has certainly slip.
Presumably the plan is to phase in the switch from Visa to Mastercard over a period of time.0 -
TSB seem to have binned off any ambitions of moving to Mastercard as well.
I wonder what goes on to make this quite so complicated. Plenty of banks moved between Switch/Maestro/Solo and Delta/Visa/Electron in the 90s and 00s. Have the banks subsequently changed their systems to work in such a way that a further change became harder? Seems foolish if so.
At the current rate I wonder whether Nationwide will be first out of the gates with rebadged cards.0 -

A swap of card supplier is a major change. Involving a lot of training for staff, changes to systems and access to new systems for staff. Which given all the other regulatory changes has seen the change pushed back.
Also a big job for the card suppliers. You can't simply send new cards to all your customers. It's usually rolled out over 18 months.
Even when Mastercard are paying Millions to the banks to change over.Life in the slow lane0 -
Here's a pic of the new MasterCard debit card (not mine so excuse it not being 100% clear)
