I've not received any email from anyone to say the council have received notes. Maybe I wouldn't because they would feel they already supplied me with an unsigned excel spreadsheet?

I received my noted from Aedis about 5-weeks ago.
Got an email from the liquidator this week re council. It was in my junk folder.

    Hello all

My Local Council has taken on what AEDIS did and not asked to open anything else (I got signed inspection report from AEDIS after complaining to CIC) and signed it off.

I also got my money back from my Bank by filing a "Charge Back" with the bank. This can be hit and miss if it works but it did for me. Based on this and the reduced amount the local council actually charged me due to other work I have ended up paying less than I would have using AEDIS to do it all. I would suggest trying it to see if you can get money back as well.

I had to pay STG more than I originally paid AEDIS as they add on 25% to take over now Aedis are in liquidation. The council inspector has been out today and was very helpful , but I still will probably not get anything back from AEDIS who came out once. I paid them by BACS - as that was what they insisted on 840GBP- money down the drain. How can they get away with this?

    Hi Guys,
Just to let you know i managed to get my loft conversion signed off by LABC today that was at completion stage when Aedis stopped trading. I still haven't received a single thing from Aedis after 8 weeks, I had a meeting on site with my builder and LABC, luckily he could see how we installed one steel in the void behind the dwarf wall and what fixings we used along with quite a few pictures my wife had on her phone of the progress of the build and some invoices to prove what materials were used, No works had to be opened up!, just had drop a few downlights and had to change a few of the existing doors on the first floor for them to be able to issue a ticket for the works.
We are now very happy we have the certificate even though i have been ripped off for £600 by Aedis with not a single bit of paperwork for any visits they made, as for CICAIR, well what a waste of time they were, i don't still to this day, know what is the point of them being some sort of governing body for the BC companies as they are unable to do jack poop! lol

A big thank you to theGrinch, guitar77, Farked and all other members for all your help!
  • I'm only at first stage of my inspection (loft inspection - joists just installed and beams etc) have cancelled initial notice with LABC and submitted a reversion notice - sheffield LA. They charged £645 to take on plans. Aedis charged me £540. First inspection with LA next wednesday so I'm in a good place. Aedis had been out a few times to give me bits of help etc over the last year (doing it all myself with a ful time job!) but it was always a different inspector - staff turnover dramatically high. Hopefully things will go well from now. I had paid the initial £540 to Aedis on credit card and submitted a section 75 claim in through Natwest. The following day they approved it and 2 days later the £540 was back in my account. I paid that initial sum to Aedis 2 years ago. I deliberitely waited unbtil they had officialy gone 'bust' before claiming, the dead website at aedis.com with the liquidation notice massively helped my case.
  • This is worrying. I have building control with Butler and Young and I have checked and their insurance ran out today. I got in contact with them and they said it is fine but looking at the above I am worried. Anyone else with Butler and Young

Anyone managed to get a refund from their CC company or bank?

Mine is asking for evidence of chasing the liquidators of a refund (which I have requested multiple times) and their response (none yet).

They are also asking for the date of delivery of the service / product despite my explanation that its via multiple inspections leading up to a building certificate

Yeah ripped off with LA cost but I’ll take that if a sympathetic LA inspector is reasonable.

Paying for a cheap approved inspector didnt work out too well though did it?

You get what you pay for.
  • I contacted my bank to make a claim gave them all the information I had dates etc they even checked the aedis website while I was on the phone and saw the statement about liquidation, I was told I would get a letter in a couple of days if they require any further information, however within a couple of hours the money was back in my bank account, I couldn't believe it! Now a whole week later I received a letter from the bank saying it has been returned temporarily!!! Pending the outcome of the claims well sorry Barclays but I've temporarily spent it! So be careful I was never told this when I made my claim. So I now need to be patient and hope the dont take it back.
