im sorry but i have no time for this type of behaviour in families. it sounds as if your sister and neice are spoilt. they obviously have no regard for what christmas is really about. your are right to be angry. you buy what you want to buy and dont be bullied, let them say and think what they like and if shes not happy and takes it out on your kids then they will make up their own minds about her. if i was you i would see my own kids were all right first them buy whatever you can afford.

have you thought of getting presents from boots on the 3 for 2 deal. we do that for my sisters and thier kids and they all end up with something that costs roughly the same and we save some money!

We spend the same amout on each child (£10-£15) no matter how many kids there are (although there are now 12 so it's getting quite expensive!!)

My sis knows all the offers out there as always up at the shops, so on christmas day she would have her calculator out, and dividing by 3 to see how much less i have spent. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Its all so un christmassy, and she says how much she loves christmas.

I don't have children of my own, but have 17 nephews and nieces! - they each get a pressie of about £10 no matter how many children belong to each sibling.

On the other hand, one brother who has two kids when asking his sister in law to babysitgets told .. if I have C & P for half a day , you'll owe me a whole day of babysitting K ( she has one kid they have two, so she expects double the amount of babysitting time!) go figure...

I doubt if your sister knows all the offers online!

I find that sites like ASOS (which has clearance sale on now)- thebookpeople
    - halfpriceperfumes etc - all have some great offers and she will not be able to "price it up!"

You could get three pressies for £15 each from Boots or Matalan etc and give her two presents and keep one for yourself!

If sister say you could have got 3for2 look dim and say you did not think of that so only bought the two gifts.
    "This site is addictive!"

    Chocogirl,
I know how you feel on this one (kind of).
I have 3 kids (which is expensive as a parent), and my Sis n partner have none.
Every Christmas/birthday, we spend £25 each or £50 joint for Sis n partners (very carefully chosen) present.
Last christmas, without telling us in advance, they didn't get us anything at all, but gave our kids £15 each........... and said that it was fairer that way.
Now, I don't mind not getting anything from them, but what I do mind is the insinuation that things hadn't been fair in the past.
If it was me, I'd be very embarressed about receiving such a large gift as an adult without giving anything back, and would suggest that their gift stopped too.
Oh, I don't really know what I'm trying to say..... It's just so difficult when ''I spend more than you do..'' etc comes into it..... Where's the Christmas spirit??

My sister told me i have to spend £30

There is the problem right there.

Ignore that and do what you want, you do not "have" to do any such thing.

    Agree totally with smallpackages

On the other hand, you could spend £30 on your niece ... and nothing on your sister because she insisted that her daughter have all the 'presents allowance' ;)

Personally, I'd tell the sister to bog off and wouldn't buy her anything until she apologised for being a greedy manipulative control-freak.
  • Mrs 7ones, totally understand where you are coming from, its so annoying when you have put thought into their pressies, it feels like they have just slapped you round the face. I agree totally Where is the Christmas Spirit - it should be fun, and the fun is all taken out of it.
