Now the UK chip manufacturer ARM have been dragged into this mess. They are a British technological success story and their chips are in so many products all over the world, including China. They are being coerced into denying access to their products for Huawei and Honor.

My detestation for the Plastic PoTUS increases with every stupid move he makes.

ARM is in a difficult position as even though their HQ is in the UK they have a presence in the USA.
ARM is concerned it is affected by the US ban, with an internal memo reportedly revealing that its chip designs include “US origin technology.”

ARM develops some processor designs in Austin, Texas and San Jose, California, which could place it under the US restrictions.

I did say, I'd rather not be trolled and one pops up instantly.
Not really a matter of being trolled but don't you think you might be overreacting. As of now your phone works as intended. The situation may change but the suggestion so far is that current phones will be fine and only new ones affected,
o2 customer service ought to be polite but thus far there is no case for you to get a new phone.

Not the case with all retailers. Some will refund. See post 52 above.

Nice one, a troll pretending he's being trolled. That'll fool everybody...

It might surprise you to learn that I’ve been offered full refunds on two Huawei phones by an exceptionally good retailer.

No names - unfair on said retailer - but there are some excellent retailers out there, some of whom are particularly responsive and deserve future custom and loyalty.

Guess where the replacements are coming from?

Why not name them? I can't see how it would be 'unfair' on them when they're getting positive feedback.

Was it Amazon as I see you mentioned them a few posts back? If so was it directly through Amazon or a marketplace seller? How long had you had the phones?

I'm not too worried. As far as I can tell it doesn't effect current devices, only new ones. I think that Huawei will just create it's on OS like Apple has. It'll be a pain at first but worth it I think. I love my Honor phone, they're so amazing for the price. I think part of this is that other phone companies are running scared, this previously unknown (to the public) phone company is suddenly at the #2 spot in terms of the market. I think it would be bad business to go ahead with this, part of it is because Trump is on a power trip.

We'd had one of the phones for 7 months and the other for a couple of months. I'm afraid I'm not going to name the retailer for fear of landing them with a flood of claims. Could, of course, have been customer-specific. Their approach was that they didn't want a customer using a potentially unsafe phone.

Arm is not a UK company; it is owned by a Japanese investment bank. Arm is not a "chip manufacturer"; it does not manufacture chips. It has not been coerced into doing anything; it is just complying with US law which it is obliged to do because it uses technologies supplied by the US.
