Will Brexit happen?

What’s amazing is that people don't realise how much they're being lied to. Boris is saying he's getting close to a deal. Barnier says the backstop not going to go. I hardly think the EU will betray Ireland........ So where is this deal?
Democracy didn't end in 2016 and an advisory referendum which was highly contentious and fraught with lies is no basis to plan the future of your country. Also a parliamentary based democracy should be allowed to debate the future of this country without fear. I have faith the next generation will change the mood and direction of this debate.

Gove is basically saying the Govmt is prepared to ignore the law.
They open their mouths and they lie.
I don't understand this betraying Ireland, by causing U.K. to leave with no deal the border they are supposedly trying to avoid would most likely be put in place and Ireland's economy would suffer as much if not more than U.Ks0 -
On this "Gove is basically saying the Governmentt is prepared to ignore the law." nonsense.
Just to point out that the law is to leave the EU on the 31st of October. Even is an amendment is past to change that (which shouldn't possible since the withdrawal bill is already in place) it still wouldn't change the law. For a law to be past it requires both houses to pass it as well as royal assent.0 -

One thing I've not seen mentioned on the news about this, even if they did manage to force it through and that meant Boris *had* to go and ask for an extension, there's absolutely no guarantee he would be given one. I suspect personally they would say "non", given iirc the slightl reluctance last time from the French. Either that or it will be a 'min year' extension as in you can't shorten it and leave early.
That would then lead to either revoke or no deal. Election aside as that won't change the EU's decision.0 -
TThe negotiated deal makes zero sense which is why it has been voted down in parliament. It keeps all the negatives of staying in the EU without any of the positives of true independence. The EU also knows it's a bad deal and conducted negotiations from the basis that that they believed they could convince the UK to either withdraw the withdrawal bill or better still agree to the terms being provided.
It's only a bad deal because we don't seem to have any intention of solving the border issue and feel we're going to be stuck in the backstop forever. This was meant to be a temporary withdrawl agreement to keep everything running until we have a new deal. It also frustrates leavers because it shows where the negotiating power lies (not with us).
We don't have any ideas about the next step, so we're stuck on this one.It is also in their interest to keep allowing extensions even though they said they wouldn't allow it initially. It wouldn't be so bad if people on the remain side could be a bit more honest and actually push for the cancelling of Brexit as soon as possible.
The Remain side have been completely honest; Brexit is a terrible idea and they want to cancel it. If they can't cancel it they want the least bad option.
If anything, the Leave side is dishonest, or at least wildly consistent and contradictory. Boris has at one point or another made every stand towards Brexit. To me the only viable options now are no deal Brexit or no Brexit and delaying either of these just makes things worse.
That's what you'd do for any other decision, but Leavers seem so terrified of not getting their own way they can't tolerate any delays and view any discussion as betrayal.0 -

It's in their interest to get this concluded one way or another. Us too.

That's been the case since Mays agreement was voted against. We need to get on with one of them, but we don't have a majority for either. The sensible thing would be to withdraw A50 until we have an actual majority and plan and then invoke it again.

The backstop makes things worse because the EU would have a very effective hold on us for when the real negotiations start, remember this is just the divorce part and not the future relationship.
The leave side hasn't been honest because they voted for the withdrawal agreement without any intension of allowing it to happen. Labours stance seems to change by the minute, if the opponents of Brexit wanted to cancel it they have a vast majority in the commons.
The EU also has the power to end this, they just need to not allow further extensions.0 -

How so? The WA stops having any effect when we sign on a new deal. The EU would have even more hold if we went to WTO and then started negotiating. The leave side hasn't been honest because they voted for the withdrawal agreement without any intension of allowing it to happen. The EU also has the power to end this, they just need to not allow further extensions.0 -
If we leave with a no deal, the remainers will be up in arms, and if we get a deal it will against what the people who voted for wanted. There's going to be trouble either way0

If we leave with No Deal & it all goes bad, the Leavers will be up in arms too.
But they will soon find a way of blaming the Remainers for the aftermath. Because all we really needed was faith.0 -

Why will a deal be against what the people voted for? Liam Fox stated, during the campaign, that a trade deal would be "the easiest deal in human history".
Are you saying people didn't vote for that?0
