firstly I’m fed up being referred to as a ‘remoaner’ simply because I voted to remain in the EU. It’s rude and offensive.
Yes I was one of 49% of the overall vote who had voted to stay. However as the leave vote was hardly a landslide victory I don’t think it is unreasonable for remainers to comment or indeed campaign for a decent deal or a 2nd referendum (sadly now unlikely) .
I’m quite sure that had the result been the other way round, Leavers would have done the same.
However the Leave vote did win albeit with a tiny majority. But please leave stop the cry ‘the people voted to leave’ the EU.
I live in the east of England where the leave vote won with an embarrassing landslide. Whilst I’m quite sure many voted to leave because they genuinely wanted to leave the EU ( and that’s fine), unfortunately many here voted simply because they don’t like Eastern European’s living here. I can think of numerous people who I personally heard saying they were voting for the first time ever having never before voted in any elections just ‘so all the foreigners would have to leave’!!
As the Eastern European’s are practically the only ones who are prepared to work in the fields and factories here , it would have been interesting to see who they thought would do these jobs.
But the point I’m making is that for many, their voting was based on inaccurate understanding of what the vote actually was. Therefore if they had not voted as usual, it would have been a very different outcome.
Ah well!! I’m not a moaner so will respect the result but I don’t respect our PM and team despite having been always been conservative voter .
However I did accept the result as I thought we lived in a democratic country. I respected my friends who voted to leave if they had given it careful consideration.
But the latest action by Boris & co to suspend parliament for the transparent attempt to rush through a no deal has finally shown up their true colours.
For three years the group that won the referendum have been called many things, few of which are anything like as polite as "remoaner" is to an anti-Brexit supporter.
Added to that are the multiple supposed reasons for "misleadingly" voting to leave - being old and thick spring immediately to mind.
This despite my circle of close friends and colleagues all being educated to degree level and above yet most (certainly more than the overall referendum result) voted in favour of leaving the EU.
Your circle of acquaintances probably tell you what they think you want to hear in order to have as brief an interaction with you as possible if the tone of your post is anything to go by; for example it's 48.1% to be exact who voted remain, not 49%.
Why exaggerate the figure?
It still is not above the 51.9% who voted to leave.
During the past three years we have all seen the desperate attempts of those who disagree with democracy try their darndest to overturn the result for no good reason other than that they disagree.
There is even a political party with the slogan "Bol locks to Brexit" which of course in effect means "Bol locks to democracy".
Now that things are moving in the direction they should, that is towards Brexit rather than towards either a fudge or staying in, these same people start howling their disapproval.
Well personally I don't care.
After three years of continual deceit by so many who are obviously just opposed to democracy it's time the boot was on the other foot.
If you don't like where we are just consider this: we are here because of the inability of the minority to accept the democratic result.
It's your own fault.
If you really respected the result you would accept that people did indeed vote to leave the EU.
Because we did, no matter the figures.
We did.
By comparison, in the Welsh Devolution Referendum of 1997 those in favour of a Welsh Assembly was 50.3% with the noes at 49.7%
The question was a simple "yes" or "no" then too.
And now we have, as you know, had a Welsh Assembly since 1999.0 -

Rush through? We were meant to leave in March and there is no sign what so ever of parliament ever agreeing to any deal. I really don't care if we stay or leave I just want it to end. Boris seems intent to force parliament to make a decision, finally some action I say.0 -
He seems intent on removing any decision from parliament.
Unless you think it's a game, which it might be.
They could call for of a motion of no confidence next week, or since the EU supposedly won't budge they could call for another vote on the deal. Even if they wait until after they come back there is still time to do either of those things. What isn't acceptable is to keep pushing for an extension.0 -

Everybody seems to be jumping to conclusions. The woodworm is coming out of the woodwork by the minute. Corbyn supporting protests on the streets. Protests against the Queen. Not the actions of a Statesman. Makes Trump seem like the Pope.
Johnson's tactics are spot on. Stop the game of charades. We are either in or out. The EU must be in despair with the political elite in the UK. The fathers of demomcracy. Nothing better than a bunch of clowns all playing to personal agendas. No interest in resolving the Brexit issue.
When the guy leading the demonstrations intentionally boycotted Rembrance Sunday. You know the ideology one is up against. Going to anger an awlful lot of people.0 -

Shame on you for writing such incorrect and unkind assumptions. I have a wide range of friends who we happily and with good grace exchange our different views or indeed agree with
My mini rant wasn’t personal to you so why write that?
I have never said anyone who voted leave was ‘old’ or ‘thick’ . But I repeat that in the area I live, there was a substantial element of people who voted purely on the basis of immigration.
I clearly stated I respect the result - albeit on a small majority. Yes I inadvertently did not give exact points for the result (Apologies for the error ) but in fairness nobody could say it’s a resounding victory. Incidentally I’m not of the opinion that the EU is perfect, far from it! But it has also resulted in many of the good things especially surrounding equality.
I’m quite sure your friends are intelligent. I too am university educated. However I don’t believe that is an essential criteria for being on either side of the vote.
I truly hope that after we leave that my misgivings are unfounded but sadly I think it’s unlikely.
David Cameron unwittingly opened a can of worms in calling the referendum, the result has gone way beyond a yes or no. I’m truly worried about going out without a deal as no one can know the outcome.0 -
My reply was to Spy Key. Sorry I didn’t make it clear. I obviously need a crash course on forums as I seem unable to quote from other people’s posts. So perhaps I’m not that intelligent anyway!0
