Only in terms of goods, commodities and services priced and traded in $. Chinese Yuan is destined to become worlds major currency at some point. Then other countries may not peg to US $ either.
Huge new currency controls have been introduced over the last couple of years that prevent the flow of capital out of China.
Any currency where the government meddles intensely with capital flows will never become a convertible, world-class currency.

Nothing to do with EU bothering. I think he would go for a border in the Irish sea once he has ditched his Irish backers (I think this was suggested by the EU in the first place)

Good spot from early September, Stevie ;) Boris and his puppemaster are so predictable. Is he now angling to lose the vote on Saturday thus 'vote of no confidence'? and General Election, I think so, he can't carry on with no majority.

That's why Hong Kong is key. The Chinese Government can funnel their trade surplus out using companies with sizable state shareholdings.

Since we are getting into slapping ourselves on our own backs -

I would change the backstop to Border checks down the Irish Sea personally.

Treat the whole of Ireland as a single area. Anything going between ROI & rEU or NI & rUK.
That seems to be the cost of both sides wanting to maintain an open border.
And at the end of the day it’d be a temporary state, outside the transition period and prior to any future deal. If the deal doesn’t happen then the checks have to remain, but both sides are incentivised to not let that happen longer term.

Not much chance of getting that through this parliament though. Much like every other option.

Not quite right as we’d effectively manage the eu’s external border, plus it’s permanent rather than a temporary, but I give myself an 8/10. Perhaps going down to a 7 if the miracle happens and parliament votes it through on Saturday.

Dammed if did. Dammed if he didn't. At least Boris has b****. First PM since Thatcher I should add.

The opposition aren't ready for a General Election. It is they that have misjudged the EU. The EU has business such as budget setting to be getting on with. Brexit has become tiresome......

Right, it's good to see you've caught up.

Most leavers have been banging on relentlessly about how the EU are trying to trap us.
Which in light of current events would seem to be quite paranoid.

As for everything else, it's playing our rather nicely.

It would be a shame to break his record of votes lost, but I don't think he's trying for it. Losing the vote won't trigger a general election due to the fixed term parliament act.

There would have to be an explicit vote of no confidence or a 2/3rds majority for an election. Otherwise he's stuck there until 2022.

It's completely undemocratic to be asking for an election, we voted in 2017. Why should we have another one? Did we get it wrong last time?

I voted in 2017 and I expect that vote to last until 2022. Parliament HAVE to listen to the will of the people and stay until then.

He has declared the EU vote a 'vote of no confidence' Anyway he will struggle to carry on with no majority.

It doesn't look like it matters because regardless of which way Saturday's vote goes, Boris will achieve what he said and get Britain out the EU on October 31st. If Parliament votes no to the deal Macron will veto an extension -> no deal Brexit here we come, regardless of what those refusing a deal want. After that, I should imagine Boris will pretty much be able to do what he wants regarding an election.

No, simply arrived at the point that I thought we would eventually.

The political posturing is a side show to the main event.
