I thought we'd moved beyond such stereotypical prejudice by now.

You can wear what you want, speak how you want, eat what you want and that doesn't define your "class".

Collins defines it as The working class or the working classes are the group of people in a society who do not own much property, who have low social status, and who do jobs which involve using physical skills rather than intellectual skills.

Karl Marx defined the working class or proletariat as individuals who sell their labour power for wages and who do not own the means of production.

Cambridge defines it as a social group that consists of people who earn little money, often being paid only for the hours or days that they work, and who usually do physical work:

Nothing about flat caps, accents or eating at greggs. Which seems to mostly be a lazy stereotype of northerners (you don't need to be northern or working class to eat food from greggs).

Someone I worked with once described the difference between working class and middle class in terms of manners. The working class were basically rude and the middle class polite. There was one more difference and that was the number of televisions. Now it would be computers as well. Working class children had televisions and computers of their own in their bedrooms and never had to learn to share. Middle class children had to share theirs.

Those who sell their labour and have little or no income producing assets?

ie those who lose from a weaker pound?
This reminds me of George Orwell’s attitude to owning a house . He seemed to think there was nothing to be gained by doing so and everyone should follow his example and rent. Who needs capital? He forgot to mention he has intellectual capital while others usually don’t .

Well if there was nothing to be gained by owning a house, then why does George's landlord own the house?

Maybe all the lease car enthusiasts on the MSE motoring forum will have an answer.
  • Meanwhile, back to the subject of Brexit.....
what are Leavers response to the release of the Yellowhammer documents yesterday that confirm the government has acknowledged the most likely disruption and hardship to ordinary people, and yet PM is still prepared crash out without a deal?
    Are you not concerned?
Because I am. Eg I rely on medication that although wouldn’t be life threatening if supplies were affected, it would stop me leading my every day life, work etc.

Is Brexit that important you want it at any cost?
This is not scare tactics by remainers, it’s actual reports from the Government.

I can give you some of the likely arguments in advance...

    (1) The scenarios are worse case. The likelihood is things will be just super.

    (2) Operation Yellowhammer was put together by civil servants. A metropolitan elite well known for being traitorous remoaners.

    (3) It's a conspiracy. Noticed how its all the negative things being leaked / demanded by courts? Brexiteers wouldn't never stoop to leaking documents which is why the reports proving things will be great haven't seen the light of day.

    (4) There's a shortage of medicines in France. In the event of a shortage please blame them.

    (5) We now deny ever saying the remain campaign was based on project fear. We all went into this with eyes fully opened and were warned of the negative consequences. We decided staying would be even worse. Democracy in action.
  • That is very telling and probably explains your failed attempt at sarcasm.

Sarcasm? No, these are points of view brexiteers will be spouting here and on the comments pages of the gospels according to the Telegraph & Daily Mail this very day.

Here you go. Frothers united are at it on the DM site..
The scaremongering from all the remainer civil servants is hilarious. No avocados in Cowdenbeath and unrest in the streets? That would be a normal Friday and Saturday night out then.

Democracy or the EU, that is where we are at !

We all knew there would be disruption,. We didnt however, realise the extent to which the remain babies would fill their nappies at the prospect of liberty.

Getting ever closer to leaving, The Remoaners are ramping up the fear tactics even more. These Remoaning MPs must have some financial vested interests in the EU.

It's not a prediction as claimed in the shrill headline, it's the worst case if the Government sits back and does nothing.

DON'T BELIEVE THE REMAINER LIES! MPs DETERMINED TO STOP BREXIT ARE COMPLETELY HYSTERICAL. LIES! LIES! LIES! AS THEY HAVE DONE THROUGHOUT! BREXIT IS HERE AND IT WILL BE THE BEST THING TO EVER HAPPEN TO UK.

It's hard to tell on a quick reading if your Brexit posts are ironic, ie pro or anti Brexit. I think others are getting the same impression. It's as if you're attempting be ironic but not in your mother tongue language.

If you make knee jerk reactions based on what you think they wrote then maybe.

    I don't suffer from that.

Brexit head bangers are going to take advantage of the law that they fought against. https://www.cityam.com/erg-chair-steve-baker-vows-to-vote-against-brexit-in-name-only-deal/

I'm still stuck between Boris trying to force a no deal and Boris coming back with BRINO and selling it to everyone. Boris himself may not yet have decided.
