My year of living dangerously

I have a plasterer coming this evening. I dislike evening appointments for quotes as I spend all day with nerves kicking in.
He will be quoting for plastering my kitchen. My kitchen is a dump. Embarrassing.
All I can do is ensure it is clean and tidy so the quote can go ahead. If I can get the plastering done the kitchen will be less of a dump.
It is a bit like feeling too fat to go to the gym even though the answer is going to the gym.
Yesterday I met up with a friend. It was nice to see her, but I am going to start being more protective of my time and cashflow.
She is late 90% of the time we meet. I felt a bit irritated as she was 40 minutes late this time and I was standing outside a station. We have very different ideas about time so I am not going to meet again when time is an issue. She can drop in and see me and vice versa instead as I find our meetings stressful instead of relaxing.
I wasted money in fares and frittering money away playing Lady Bountiful
I ended up feeling resentful and it is my own fault. I don’t want to become mean as I dislike meanness. BUT…
I am going to work hard on:
--Not saying yes when friends/family want to meet up. I can think about it and work it into a day when I am out and about so fares are already paid for.
--Not paying for everything for friends and family on autopilot.
--Not giving away my time (especially important when I am working on my creative project full time in the Autumn)
Wishing you all a good dayIf you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

I'd be interested to know how much the quote for plastering your kitchen was, if you don't mind sharing - mine needs doing badly and I don't want to get someone in for a quote if it's going to be way above any budget. (I know it will vary, but I'm just curious).
I don't think you are being mean by getting annoyed, your friend is being disrespectful of you. I hate lateness and leaving you standing around for 40 minutes is just rude."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". I find the gentle reminder of 'is it my tune, I cant remember, did you pay last time or did I?' a good reminder that these things should take turns.
I agree about the need to be protective with time, I get so little free time at the minute and thieves of time really wind me up.My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

I don't think that you are being mean either. Friends don't do that to each otherrWF.

I did it. The plasterer came. He came on time. He seemed nice and I would feel comfortable to have him in my home. The quote he gave was reasonable and less than the previous (flaky) plasterer quoted. :T He can do the work in the next few weeks. I have been feeling nervous all day but I can relax now and enjoy my evening. If you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Hurrah for the plasterer. I hate these things too. Never did get the cleaner in, she quoted for a deep clean then I got Ill and neglected everything so now the house is so much worse. We are having a clear it up push this weekend. My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

That's brilliant about the plasterer
.
I would be cross too about waiting for 40 minutes at a station  and I definitely wouldn't offer to pay. When I go out with friends we usually pay for ourselves, unless what we've had is very similar and then we just split the bill equally. Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

Thank youThat's great. Ours is really small too, hopefully that's in the right ballpark. Even if it's double it's manageable so that's really helpful.
