Is there any reason why I couldn't make some mini flavored vodkas in empty baby food jars???

I am making bil & his gf a cocktail/drinking hamper for christmas as they don't have much money to go out.

I have a load of empty baby food jars (200g) that I want to use.

I could make them a few different flavors for them to try with just 1 bottle of cheap vodie (have a pink & blue shot glass each in the hamper) & then maybe make him a bigger bottle of his fave for his birthday in march.

Can't wait to start :T will have to get my H to be taster as I'm still breastfeeding.

I make my toffee vodka using Treats (or any other brand) toffee sauce that is meant for putting on ice cream.

Take a bottle of vodka, remove some to make room for the sauce.I use about 2/3rds of a bottle of toffee sauce in a 70cl bottle - you can use more or less depending on how sweet you like it.

Shake the bottle and "hey presto" it's done - none of that waiting about for sweeties to dissolve lark!

Keep in the fridge, shake before drinking - I like mine neat over ice.

A friend of mine keeps requesting I make her Wham bar Vodka. She could do it herself but she prefers to get it from me :D

ok, how about any of these - as said above - wham bar; there are a few different flavours now, also - irn bru bar, vimto bar, drumstick bar, blackjack bar, fruit salad bar, chocolate eclairs, plain sherbert, cola pips, millions, cherry drops, bounty, flumps, sour fizzy cola bottles (blue and red larger size), fruitella, or bon bons? :D (this smiley really should have holes in its teeth eh!?)
  • Wow Lauzjp, you're gonna be really busy - and with some really good ideas!!

I think baby food jars could look really pretty with your own label and maybe a really nice gift tag - could maybe put a cocktail recipe on it using your flavoured vodka?

Does anyone know how long these concoctions last for? I've got my pear drops, chocolate limes and kola kubes at the ready, but I don't want to prepare it too soon - they are to put in xmas hampers. Does anyone know?

I'm going to put some snowman soup in each hamper as the hangover cure to the voddies!!

I'd love to hear of any other flavours you peeps are preparing, the wierder the better!! ....

My sister bought me a giant bar of Mint Aero to try but it didn't work because the chocolate didn't dissolve LOL! The only way I could get it to dissolve was to warm it up but then as soon as it cooled, the chocolate turned solid again.

So, if I wanted to give these as presents, would I have to keep them in the freezer beforehand or could I give them the day before at room temp and put a pretty label on saying keep in freezer before drinking. Ta.
  • Hi gangstabird, you could do either - but it does taste better if it's chilled. Which voddies are you doing?

Has anyone designed any nice labels or tags yet? Need some ideas for mine...

Generally they should last a long time :) You're using 40% alcohol... that ought to preserve most things! :)
You might have to shake them again from time to time tho ;)
Which reminds me at some point I ought to filter the sloe gin and blackberry vodka liqueur I've got sitting in plastic bottles at the moment :)
