I used the hard butter candies in my first lot. But in my second I used Fox's butterscotch sweets and it was much nicer.

A nice little trick for cheap vodka, if you have a spare Brita water cartridge at home, if you pour your cheap vodka through it a few times it makes it much smoother and more palatable.

A quick way to make the vodka is a method called 'dishwasher vodka'. Quite simple, crush up your boiled sweets or gummy sweets or chocolate can be cut into smaller pieces. Place them in the vodka and seal lid tightly, wrap cling film around it to help prevent possible leakage. Place in an empty dishwasher on highest heat and when it's finished, tada! perfect vodka. I would recommend a quick filter afterwards but otherwise it's the easiest way, the label even peels off the bottle easily.

If you haven't a dishwasher you can do this in a pan over the hob but I imagine that might be a bit more fiddly.

Chocolate vodka best done by cutting chocolate into small pieces and heating in a bowl over a pan of water, once the chocolate has melted stir in the vodka. Decant the vodka into bottles and place in the freezer for a week, shaking every few days to keep a good consistency; This makes the mixture thick and rich.

Can't wait to make some chocolate orange vodka this year :)

I had some success with a sample bottle of toffee vodka last year and intend having a go with other sweets for Christmas.

If I can find a supply of sloes, I also would like to try sloe gin.

I am saving up wide necked sauce bottles as they have plain lids, are easy to fit sweets into and including the sauce cost less than 60p.

Size wise they fit 240 ml inside.
