No chance of doing that this year..............last year we had enough chillis to pickle - I didn't try them but OH and several others who tried them said they were lovely.
Don;t think he's ever done them in vodka thoughMary
I'm creative -you can't expect me to be neat too !

Hi there all you talented crafty, home-making and baking peeps!!
I have "done" my strawberry vodka, but OH thinks I may have used too much sugar. I used two punnets of strawberries, two thirds a big bag of granulated sugar and half a litre of vodka.
The recipe I was trying to follow called for two punnets, a whole bag of sugar and a 1.5 litres of vodka. However, after layering strawberries in sugar, I can't fit enough vodka in. Can anyone help? Or does anyone know how bad it will taste at the end?
Many thanks"A" is for Opple if yowm spaking loike a yamyam!0 -
For all those making flavoured vodkas for christmas presents...
do either put a warning label on the bottle or tell the recipients to drink it before a year. OH and i just opened a bottle of terry's chocolate orange vodka that i made last November. We had the equivalent of a shot, each, and its... um... rather potent. The sugar within the chocolate has fermented and added to the alcohol within the drink - left for 2 years or more, it could easily become undrinkable (if not lethal). I can feel my head going fuzzy now, after about one shot - and this is after a meal of pasta, so its not on an empty stomach. Granted, i don't drink a lot anyway, so its going to affect me more badly than someone who's more used to alcohol but OH drinks on a fairly regular basis and its effecting him the same way.
if you do open it a good time after christmas then i really wouldn't drink this when driving, even just a little bit...
You've been warned!!

More importantly, what's what's the recipe then
I've never heard of flavouring your own Vodka...
well you've heard of the absolut range? same idea. you can use almost anything, but certainly anything sweet works well. chocolate. skittles (stick to one colour tho!). cola bottles. teh actual recipe is somewhere on these forums, don't ask me where cos right now if i move my head my eyes don't catch up with my head very well.. !!! but basically all you do is put your chosen flavouring in a bottle and top with vodka. Leave for a few weeks to dissolve, shaking every so often (I left mine by the kettle, and shook it every time i made a cuppa) and it worked. Just be careful if you make a chocolate one, if you put in too much chocolate teh result is a very very thick liquid, i could almost eat it with a spoon! (and thats without leaving it for a year...)
anyway, a search on the forums should find it, or you can wait for me to get over my hangover tomorrow and i'll find it ya then...

Yeah, I'd heard of the absolute ones, but never realised you could make your own so easily.
After having a read, I think I'm gonna try skittles, chilli, cola bottles and werthers original (not all in the same bottle!)
Thanks for the replies0 -

The pub I used to work in made loads of these - the ones I remember selling best were:
Cinnamon Balls
Kola Cubes
Pear Drop
Cherry Lips
Rhubarb and Custard
Parma Violet
Malteaser
After Eights
Expresso
The owner used a coffee grinder for the hard sweets. He also made a banana milkshake vodka using UHT banana milkshake - one guy used to drink in in pints!
