Would this massive extra usage not get picked up by the 'mysterious third party' when validating the readings?

I got a email today stating that the "extra" usage has been validated. The letter E next to their validated reading meant nothing. The photographic evidence with timestamp and EXIF data in the photo metadata meant nothing. The idea that I have gone from around just under 200kWh to the concept of 6,000kWh a month in eight days meant nothing either. Does 72,000kWh a year sound rational for a one bedroom flat? The logic has walked out the door on this one.

As there is no formal complaints route or ombudsman route I have two options, pay £225 of which the vast majority compromises energy I have not used in a week's time with no prospect to protest after-ward or prevent them from taking the money out of my account and go down the route of debt collection, bailiffs and as a result, the amount to pay increases with all the consequences that will bring.

There will be knock-on effects from this, my usage figures for the last year will now be out by just under 2,000kWh for the aforementioned eight days. And I fear this could nudge EON Next to increase my Direct Debit further than I have already have to cover usage that is well above my actual usage. Yes, I will have more credit as a result going forward should that happen but this is terrible timing.

I can pay the amount, there is no danger of having to skip meals or go without until next payday but its the principle.

And it makes a mockery of everyone telling me to photo my meter readings with timestamps if they're just simply going to be ignored.

    Merry Christmas.

I'd call that a result worth celebrating. If I could have 2000kWh at Zog's rates rather than EDF's I'd take them.
I'm not sure about this bit though:
... pay £225 of which the vast majority compromises energy I have not used ...
Even at the current capped rates, 2000kWh is only £82-ish. Not "the vast majority" by any means?

£222.65 is the amount on the final bill, so yes, pretty much £225 (I couldn't recall the exact amount from memory). I did expect a debit amount because of Symbio's weird way of doing their Direct Debit payments but nowhere near that amount.

I've had a final bill from Symbio, which is surprisingly accurate and based on the actual readings. Unfortunately my switch to Neon Reef used an estimated reading a little under 200kWh lower than my closing reading with Symbio.

I've emailed both the defunct companies explaining the situation. I can't settle the account with the Symbio administrators until the Neon Reef administrators agree the same reading.

I've not involved EON so far, and I'm quietly hopeful that the 9 days I was technically with them will fall between the cracks.

Worst case I'm about £35 out of pocket which I'll have to attempt to recover from British Gas who are now my SoLR.

It's all too confused to be understood readily (at least by me).
From whom?  Symbio / the Adminstrator? E.On? or?

Next what meter reads and dates have Symbio and E.On used for billing you.
    And what were your actual?

The biggest issue will be if the meter use number estimated by Symbio and used by E.On as the opening read is more than the meter read numbers you submit (have submitted?) to E.On after that date...  {when they'll possibly look like the meter is going backwards}.

But being an E(stimated) read and if both use the same it should all come out in the wash in the end?  It does seem barmy if you have a Final Symbio Bill for energy you still haven't used today though!

I took meter reads on 4th Oct and gave to both  NN104 say ... Gave another on 31st to Symbio only NN431.   Another customer read on 28th November to E.On only was NN728.  All my reads are C(ustomer) reads, no estimates.

Symbio used the 31st read to Final Bill me  NN431 ...  Eon have used that read NN431 as the opening read from 3rd October.  So I have cheap Symbio leccy and the administrators keep my money and get another couple of quid when I eventually pay the final bill to apportion on to their creditors (or more likely pay the administrators charges).
Eon have calculated a charge (at wrong tariff rate), but have yet to send me a bill, for 3rd Oct to 27th Nov and have credited my DD from 1st Dec.  I'm hoping the bill will use the correct tariff but if not I'll sort that out when it happens.

That me out from symbio.  Received the final bill, in £245 credit and it has appeared in Eon Next  account.

The period of time in question is an eight day period in August before my meter was replaced. I gave a reading of 4755 on the 31st of July and 4796 on the 8th of August and they're both on the meter read section of the Symbio Customer Portal. The bill gives a reading of 4864 E on the 31st of July and 6725 E on the 8th of August. Obviously my Direct Debit would not cover such a huge amount of usage and that's why it has carried on. The bill for those eight days was generated after Symbio went bust because I had an issue with giving meter readings manually or automatically from the new smart meter.

If the meter was replaced, isn't it the responsibility of the engineer who replaced it to submit the final reading from the old meter?
