Don't switch to these.  This thread seems to be full of people who can't stand them but will bore us all with all that's wrong with this Symbio.  Yes, that's right, bore us all, but they won't switch away so that's why we are bored of it.  I waited 3 months for refund and during this, got told £10 only for late refund.  Then got told they are changing banks.  Then thru Energy Ombus he can get £30.  The rules say £60, what it hard to understand about these rules please Symbio?
Gas?  I wouldn't trust them to run a bath, let alone gas company.

My three and a half month battle to get Symbio to update my EAC continues.  I signed up with a guesstimate of 5000kWh. After 12 months they offered a renewal at an EAC of 4655kWh, but left 5000kWh on the account.  I complained. At the end of December they said they'd change it to 4700kWh, but never did. Actual rolling 12 month consumption is now at 4300kWh.

Yesterday they called. The call went from, "we can't change EAC", to "because of the pandemic it should be 5500kWh" (I lost it with them at that point, since they agree I've used 4300kWh in the 12 months to date), to "we'll change it to 4700kWh". I  replied, "you said that 7 weeks ago"!

So we'll see how it goes. It's not that important,  although it impacts the ludicrous over-estimates, it's more a matter of principle. Their incompetence is astonishing.
They did the same to me. They took m EAC as being 26000kwh, when it was 6000kwh, so in my first month took a direct debit of £240! Then insisted on me sending "evidence" that I wasn't lying!! I sent them a month of meter readings, and my last 3 month bills. Still took a few arguments and speaking to several people until it got changed. If you get to the right person, they can sort it out instantly.....unfortunately the majority just read from a script, apologise profusely and do nothing......still, they're cheap, but i'll be off when my contract ends in a couple of months.

Anyone noticed that Symbio tariffs have disappeared from Cheap Energy Club?

On Monday Symbio removed several tariffs and replaced them with new ones, so perhaps the CEC is still being updated.
    Neo is also missing.

Where is that post with all the chevrons?  It was downright nasty to myself.

It's is £30 if late as it's single not dual fuel https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/2020/02/consumers-to-be-entitled-to-p30-if-they-experience-energy-switch/ - the further £30 is if they miss the deadline for paying the late fee.

Are you including yourself with the bores because of your switch away troubles ;)

When it's all going right, energy companies are the same, but often its when it goes wrong there is the problem. Can often be down to the quality of the customer service. I suppose with Symbio they are cheap (though for me not as cheap as they used to be - the saving was £100pa over the next best shown in CEC/CAB/Uswitch, now that is down to £20pa) so it's often a case of which is important.

People often moan at flying with Ryanair, but will often keep going back if the price is low enough.

My fixed term with another company ends next month. I thought of changing to Symbio. Thank goodness I read the last few pages of this thread. It made me decide to stay where I am.
  • I queeried where the MSE tariffs were and got a load of guff about replacing them with better ones.
I was happy with Green but they have upped their prices a lot. This Symbio lot appear to be everything worth avoiding. Going elsewhere.

I read a lot more of this thread than that and decided to take the plunge! Some of what I read amused me, and I like a challenge. However, I have to say that having led a charmed life with energy companies for many years now, that experience is continuing with Symbio and so far I've had no trouble whatsoever. :D
