I have just spoken to my bank and they recalled the dup payment, it seems Symbio are on the grab so everyone keep a close eye on your accounts!! Don't bother talking to Symbio, just speak to your bank.
Done!  The duplicate payment amount was back in my account this morning, the day after I raised a Direct Debit indemnity with my bank. I'm still in credit with Symbio, just not by so much now.  I really hope Symbio stay in business, but they do need to get their act together.  I tried phoning them several times yesterday (before I raised the claim with my bank) but had to leave a voicemail asking them to call me back.  I also emailed them about this query, so let's see how long it takes them to reply...
  • It takes them weeks to reply, and further weeks for them to do nothing, often after telling you that they were going to do something!  Provided you set out with the understanding that they're utterly incompetent,  you shouldn't be disappointed when they act accordingly.

They rarely ever reply, it took me 4 months to change tariff after my "reminder" that my newly switched tariff was ending.

My second day with them and all is still well. Switch went smoothly, one bill for exactly the sum I was anticipating, one notification of direct debit to be taken on Friday, their emails give the impression that they were written by someone whose first language isn't English but that in itself really isn't an issue, and I remain a satisfied customer.

Don't be fooled by the UK office address, their cowboy outfit is run out of Goa, India. But who cares if they are the cheapest around. Go with a fixed monthly DD and you should never need to contact them until it's time to renew/switch.

The bulgarians that run Symbio are based in India? Never knew that!

Today's the day! I joined this morning. I've already had a welcome email sent overnight asking me to 'kindly assist' by providing opening readings, then an acknowledgement when I submitted them followed a few minutes later by my bill for February and then an hour or so later yet another email confirming the details of my direct debit which is set for Friday. Their estimates for my usage are about a third higher than I anticipate but of-course having seen this thread I knew what to expect, and in fact I opted for the fixed payment (higher in winter, lower in summer) which is roughly mid way between their estimate for the month and mine.
So far so good. They are very polite too aren't they - they even say they hope I am well in their first message of the day!
I did exactly this and still had all the problems everyone else had. I'd be surprised if they stick to the 'fixed' element. They didn't for me.

They have no idea how to predict winter and summer...

  • Symbio just took an extra direct debit payment without my consent. They say it's to 'clear the outstanding amount' but there isn't an outstanding amount and they've just put up my monthly payment because I was late with a reading and they inflated the estimate.
If I stop the next direct debit payment, they're going to say I'm in breach of contract and put my price up. But they're in breach of contract by taking money without my consent, aren't they?
    Any ideas, anyone, please?
    Thanks, Neil
Have a look under the Direct Debit guarantee scheme and get the refund. You can also tell your bank it was take fraudulently.

Interesting to see on their financials from 2020 that they had approx 8 employees!
