On my third attempt to switch now.  The first two were blocked by Symbio claiming an outstanding amount due on the account, which was not true in the first case because my account was actually in credit at that time, and in the second case the "outstanding amount" included their estimated charges to the period after the switch.  Certainly nothing outstanding for 28 days.
So I'm on the third attempt now, and I've actually had an email from Symbio apparently going along with it.  They asked me to click on a link to confirm, but that link gives "link expired" error, so it remains to be seen if that's another ploy to stop the switch.

I've opted to renew with Symbio for my sins. Got an email giving me a renewal quote but their offer is far more expensive both in kWh and daily charge than their other tariffs. So I chose another one. But what a weird way of doing business.

That should be their strapline - since it seems fashionable for every business to have one nowadays.

How many simply choose what was suggested.

I see Symbio are saying on their website that they are working towards getting a gas supply licence as well so they can offer dual fuel options

    Gas Supply Launching SOON!

Symbio Energy has successfully offered the Lowest Prices for Electricity to the UK and helped our Customer save up to £600 on their Electricity Bills. As a part of our Green Revolution, Symbio Energy will soon venture into the supply of 100% Carbon-Free Gas. Look out for exciting offers with our Dual Fuel Tariffs. It's time to Take Control of your Savings.

(and apologies if this has been mentioned earlier in the thread but couldn't see anything when I did a search)

:D They can't even offer Elec only without messing it up.....

They've already got the gas supply and gas shipper licenses so getting it up and running is all going to be internally.

It'll be interesting to see what sort of prices they offer. They're already struggling to stay afloat while making a loss on Elec only, would be a strange tactic to then offer a loss-making gas tariff for dual fuel.

At least it now means they will have two fuels to over-estimate usage by 20% to stack up the credit balances.

Also if it's carbon free gas as they state then surely that can only be Ammonia or Hydrogen for use as a fuel....maybe they're being really radical 😅

For some reason I reckon they might be bending the truth and it'll just be carbon-offset... However that would be totally 'un-characteristic' of Symbio to bend the truth so who knows  :D
  • My three and a half month battle to get Symbio to update my EAC continues.  I signed up with a guesstimate of 5000kWh. After 12 months they offered a renewal at an EAC of 4655kWh, but left 5000kWh on the account.  I complained. At the end of December they said they'd change it to 4700kWh, but never did. Actual rolling 12 month consumption is now at 4300kWh.

Yesterday they called. The call went from, "we can't change EAC", to "because of the pandemic it should be 5500kWh" (I lost it with them at that point, since they agree I've used 4300kWh in the 12 months to date), to "we'll change it to 4700kWh". I  replied, "you said that 7 weeks ago"!

So we'll see how it goes. It's not that important,  although it impacts the ludicrous over-estimates, it's more a matter of principle. Their incompetence is astonishing.

Well at least they are consistent in that by the comments in this thread.   Mind you I reckon quite a few energy suppliers have sent their staff to the same training school 😅
