Symbio Energy feedback

Dammit, last month I passed up on the opportunity to join Symbio in favour of going Green instead. They've now emailed me to say they're raising electricity unit prices by 50% next month.
Now considering Symbio again. Should I go for their fixed or variable? For those who are on any of their variable plans, have you actually ever had a price-rise enacted by them?0 -
My 12 month fix ends on 31st, and Symbio are still my cheapest electric only supplier.
So I have taken a new fixed tariff for another 12 months.
They now don't do a DD based on EAC/12.
Rather you now get two options to choose from:
1. Seasonal fixed DD: Summer (April-September) at 0.82 EAC/12 and Winter (October-March) at 1.18 EAC/12.
or
2. Variable DD with a monthly estimate of the amounts shown.
I opted for the variable as - despite their ludicrous estimated consumption numbers - monthly reconciliation should keep their interest free loan from me to a minimum.
I did consider Neon Reef and Utility Point at one (possibly as foolish as staying with Symbio) moment.0 -
I renewed with a variable plan about 2 months ago. Email saying its ended and to pick another?? But they are still the cheapest.elucidate said:Dammit, last month I passed up on the opportunity to join Symbio in favour of going Green instead. Never had a price rise.
And I want to keep my record going with having all the providers that go bust? LOLThe world is not ruined by the wickedness of the wicked, but by the weakness of the good. Napoleon0 -
I have always gone for the variable dd. They are less likely to get confused. However last January they just got totally confused. I have learnt from that experience just accept the inflated estimate each month in the hope it is adjusted the following month and for me it normally does.Rodders53 said:My 12 month fix ends on 31st, and Symbio are still my cheapest electric only supplier.

Same here. Since Symbio still owe me money from when I left them a couple of months ago I'm reluctant to go straight back in case it confuses them ever more than they normally are

I've come to the end of the contract having fully paid by monthly direct debit without issue. I have kept the DD open for a final payment whilst I change back to Bulb, however, Symbio has 'objected' to the switch. I have emailed them and had a nonsensical email in poor English back which explains nothing.
There are some really bad reviews out there for these people and my leaving experience leads me to conclude that coming back next year would be a bad idea. Avoid them!!!!0 -
I'm happy not to avoid them. My rate is fixed for 15 months at 10.246p per kw and standing charge about 19.04 per day. Also vat on top of those figures.oxygenkiosk said:I've come to the end of the contract having fully paid by monthly direct debit without issue. Bulb Variable rate is likely to increase 1 March/ April by which time fixed rates across the board are likely to be higher than they are nowoxygenkiosk said:whilst I change back to Bulb

I'm a refugee from Yorkshire Energy and have decided to go with Symbio, which I only did after reading significant parts of this thread, so I knew what I was taking on. I like a challenge and am looking forward to them providing me with a bit of amusement over the coming months. I got one of the Christmas Spark fixed deals which were withdrawn very shortly afterwards.
So far I have not been disappointed, as they sent me an email which I had to read several times before I could even start to comprehend what they were on about! They told me that I would receive my first bill within the next seven days - I haven't - which would relate to the remainder of the calendar month. Well I don't go live with them until the start of February which might explain why I've not received any bill yet, but surely this must happen all the time with a customer signing up in one month but not actually starting until that month is over and they could surely word the email rather better to take account of this . The email also referred to 'the proceeding month', which I initially took to be a mis-spelling of the word 'preceding', but this interpretation made no sense whatsoever so I am now thinking that for 'proceeding' I should just substitute 'next'. If I'm right, I think I just about get what they're on about.
So they haven't let me down as they have already given me a good laugh, and I hope I am approaching this in the right spirit. If their messages continue to amuse me and they survive the year I shall be a happy customer.
