I was under the impression that you could only be rolled onto a fix if it did not have any exit fees. Would aynyone with more knowledge be able to confirm this?
Read your email again it provides the link to accept or choose another tariff?I've been on a number of fixes in the past which did not have an exit fee.My email states 'Should you fail to provide your response by the 01 December 2020, you will be placed on the above tariff effective from 01 December 2020.'The above tariff having a £25.000 exit fee.I won't be staying with Symbio, I'm just trying to find out whether it is correct that they should not be doing this. Is this against OFGEM rules?
You can Accept or Select a new preference plan by clicking: HERE, Should you fail to provide your response by the 01 November 2020, you will be placed on the above tariff effective from 01 November 2020 .
As to OFGEM rules. Would think breaking them if they did not inform you? they appear to offering a fixed deal similar to what you were on.
Your choice to accept? I went by the link and renewed a variable tariff.Mine had all the same stuff in, but that wasn't really my point. It was about anyone who is not proactive and the rules surrounding this.I was looking at this page on OFGEM, it doesn't say that sending an email telling you what will happen overrides anything, but I do not know how up to date it is, which is why I was seeking further info from here.It won't affect me directly as I will be leaving them but if they are breaking the rules I'll be putting a complaint in anyway as they shouldn't be doing it0 -
Think the lack of exit fees was probably a factor in my signing up with them to begin with, that was fairly uncommon back in July 2019 for fixed terms. The renewal I was sent was ridiculous and had the £25 exit fee.I rejected it in favour of a variable no exit fee tariff instead.Fully aware that could rise but rather that than pay an exit fee.Hope they remain trading, not certain that they will,if Tonik for example are done I cant see how much longer they'll last.Dont they owe a million pounds roughly to be paid by the end of this month?.0

From OFGEM as well LINKY perhaps you already read it?

I've decided not to stay with symbio. They never resolved my complaint back in March, and I don't trust them to return to massive overestimates when winter arrives or they need cashflow. When I complained they put be on a fixed drect debit which I didn't request, but requests to return to a variable direct debit have been ignored. Their "renewal option" email really convinced me it was best to leave. It had some snippets like.......
- "...we have renewed your tariff as per the details below...". Really, I hadn't agreed to renew.
- It also said "We assure that our renewal tariff is cheaper than the switchable tariff on any of the enery comparison sites". I'm not quiet sure what a switchable tariff is defined as (guess a tariff you can switch to), but I checked and it wasn't the cheapest, and it wasn't even the cheapest symbio tariff I could switch to according to the comparison website.
I'm moving to Neon Reef, which for some reason doesn't appear on MSE's energy club website. I should leave in early November, so doubt OFGEM will rapidly close symbio down (before I leave) if they fail to make their outstanding payment by end of the month.0 -
Was thinking about moving to Neon Reef however they only offer a fixed tariff: Reef1-14.46p kWh.12.831p daily s/c £30 exit fee.
So ended up staying with Symbio Low Fair and Green Variable SE03 V2 -12.193p kWh. 19p daily s/cThe world is not ruined by the wickedness of the wicked, but by the weakness of the good. Napoleon0 -

MY electricity consumption is very stable from year to year, and i've got records going back years to prove it. My EAC was 2,7000 kWh when I joined. After some moths i got an email telling me that "The Estimated Annual Consumption submitted by you in the switch application may have been lower than the actual consumption.
Hence, we have reviewed your EAC in line with your usage and the Industry EAC and an adjustment has been made to the EAC using the data from the meter readings submitted by you. In the event, that you have not provided us with the meter readings, we have revised the EAC using the Industry EAC for the property."
This was rubbish and I challenged them to provide the data that they had to support an EAC of 3521.85 kWh. Apart from being an absurdly precise estimate (to 2 decimal places of a kWh) it was over 30% higher than my actual usage over 4 years. After several emails where they provided no supporting data I got this gem "With reference to your query, we would like to inform you that industry standards are nothing but the standard operating procedures of the Electricity market. We do not know what appliances you utilise but the Estimated Annual Consumption is passed on by the regulator of the historic suppliers i.e the previous electricity suppliers for the property."
So mention of "the regulator" and "previous suppliers". I challenged them again to provide the data. They backed down and put my EAC back to 2,700 kWh. But no supporting data. so now I'm making a formal complaint. So much for the claim "We at Symbio Energy Limited, have kept our promise to provide you with low and fair prices. We have grown significantly and we are making overall improvements to our processes." And this is an improvement?1 -
As I understand it in the last 42 days of a fixed term contract you can leave for a new supplier without being liable for any exit fee, even if your current contract normally has such a clause. This allows you to move elsewhere in plenty of time before your contract ends.. Sending you an offer at 49 days prior is perhaps a way of enticing you into staying put. Contracts with no exit fees do exist but logically would be priced slightly higher than the equivalent from the same company with an exit fee.0
