Thanks beanie it is the small things that can make a difference. She was in pain but her mood lifted and we had a good laugh along the way today. She always finds my gingerbread man phobia hilarious.
I've been meaning to ask if your sad lamp is the one hb2 kindly posted the link to. We have a friend who's struggling with SAD. He went though a bitter divorce and a fight for access to his two teenage daughters. He's been an experienced long distance bus driver in this area for many years. Not long after the divorce he had an accident not caused by him with a bus load of passengers. Recorded footage from his cab proved he was not responsable but when his gp put him on sick leave the bus company sacked him. He was ready to roll over but I directed him to Unite as he'd always been a member. A long fight ensued but eventually they let him go on ill health grounds with some compensation. Mentally he was battered so we had to persuade him to seek counselling which along with medication helped.
He was at loss about the future and has always suffered sad when the season turns. A friend of his from the Discworld group offered him a cottage in Banff at a low rent to act as caretaker. So he made the move to Scotland a year ago and found a job driving one of those little buses in rural Scotland. He rescued a cat now named Mrs Miggins- Blackadder! yesterday he messaged dd in a total gloom the SAD is back and he's struggling to wake up in the mornings. We've decided to order him a lamp so the one hb2 bought is within our budget and I'm wondering how you're getting on with yours and whether it's helping yet. Sorry for the long post.

polly~~The sad lamp was not the one that there was a link too.
I got a cheap one from Amazon to try & managed to get money off too.
I think the lamp is helping & would be more if I was not currently having benefits angst.

Thanks beanie. Out friend Rob is in a beautiful out in the sticks area. Being there has gone a long way to helping him heal. He messaged last week stunned to have woken up to snow. We love Scotland and responded what did you expect you're in Scotland .
We've been daring him to become Bus driver Rob and his black and white cat and take Mrs Miggins to work. It worked for Postman Pat. He's overwhelmed at the civilised passengers who travel on his wee bus and loves the small community and wonderful views from the cottage. Just what he needed.
Dd and I have long loved Scotland my eldest dd lived at the gateway to the Trossachs when she ran the Scottish region for her company and holidays there were wonderful. We'd move there but so far Superdoc is not ready to move his family north of the border!

Eta only just noticed your remark re benefits angst. I'm so sorry to read that . I must confess you've seemed a bit quiet lately. The sooner fairness and sanity returns to the UK the better. The damage caused by these constant reassments is off the scale and traumatic. How anyone is ever to feel secure and perhaps make some progress in life under the present system seems impossible.

Thanks for the info Polly, I will have a look.
I have only been to Scotland a couple of times and the journey is too much for me now (can't sit comfortably for long enough even to fly there). I certainly don't envy them their weather, I have become a real southern softy!
Beanie, I'm glad that your lamp seems to be helping, if only a little. I think mine is having some effect too as I am finding it easier to be awake during the day (unless I have been up all night!) and am a bit less reclusive. Sorry that you have 'benefit angst' thanks to this pernicious systemIt's not difficult!

polly~~So glad that you could get the AB for your DD & that you both got out & were able to share a hot drink together.
It's the small things
Totally behind you there. It is definitely the small things that make the differenceWhen I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
My lamp is a Philips Golite.
I have had it for many years.
It was a research item so I did a questionnaire on it after trialling it. Thankful now that the price is acceptable to most as I still had to pay £140 as a trial item in those days.
My friend came round a bit later then planned, but I have given her a crib sheet, ideas/ points for an agenda for the meeting she has coming up. Was able to google one of the people due to be at a meeting she has been asked to host and an itinerary to take control of the meeting the powers that be in her life seem to wield unnecessarily.
I am once again awake when I expected to be asleep hours ago. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Sorry to see you're another one burning the midnight oil Ss. It's warm and cosy sitting downstairs in my armchair and I'm psyching myself up to head to bed.
I'm glad you were able to help your friend. Your post yesterday about realising you are not alone and everyone having a mountain to climb resonates with me. We are stronger together. I've ignored or occasionally responded to a troll here over the last few years but have stuck with the threads because we are a little community of friends. Isn't it strange how they've melted away like snow?
Hope you can get to sleep, I'm about to brave upstairs. I imagine you can't wait for Saturday and a bit of respite.
Thinking of your dgd and hope something can be sorted asap.
I've just been thinking how many people seem to live in an Instagram world where everything is perfect because they only show the good things. I comfort myself those of us dealing with lifes up and downs are better prepared for various scenarios through experience and learning to adapt accordingly.
Sorry for all the typos today. I need sleep.
Sleep tight all.

I'm hoping that everyone managed to get some sleep eventually, everything else is easier to manage if we are well rested (don't forget that sleep deprivation is used as a method of torture!).
We went to a Carpenters tribute act last night, they were very good and I enjoyed a sing-along at the endIt's not difficult!

Not really achieved as much as I can do these past few days. Friday I managed to do a good bit of work. Several fittings etc
Tomorrow I am hoping to get to sew for about 6 hours.
The gas boiler is due a service.
One of the grandchildren was sick Friday night, through so they didn't go anywhere. DS looked after everyone well. I visited a friend and had some good sole time. Dgd is still very subdued she's got a cold.
Back to school tomorrow and hopefully she will manage.
I had a good chat with the school on Friday. Will be monitoring how things are going for her.
Twin2 rang she has finally had a letter from the Letter box updates on her boys. 5 months late. But better than not at all. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
