Hi everyone, I've been MIA for a while - where did 6 years go? But I'm back in the MSE saddle again after:
1. Buying out the ex a few year ago (new mortgage but not hideous in the scheme of things).
2. Putting my 2 kids through uni and supporting beyond.
3. Paying off 0% car finance.
4. Taking voluntary redundancy from a job that was draining my soul through restructuring after 11 fab years.
5. Welcoming m'chap and a cat into the family home
6. Starting a shop with a friend - 9 months before lockdown 1... (such fun).
7. Just about to reach the 3rd anniversary of said shop, with the help of a heck of a lot of 0 hour contracts and side hustles, as well as budgeting and cutting back until the pips squeak.
I also have some of my EF intact from 6 years ago! I know I should probably whack it on the mortgage, but something inside me keeps whispering "what if?".
So can I please have #19 again? It looks as if it's vacant on the spreadsheet3-6 month EF Challenge Member #19: £3590/£6000.[/B] Craft destash from 22.5.22: 46/200. Declutter from 22.5.22: 105/250 Car finance PAID OFF £7,848.88 IN 2019 (0% LOB)4 -

You've achieved some fantastic things while MIA - well done on everything.
What a time to start a shop so well done on reaching your 3yr anniversary with this.
A huge congrats on keeping some of your EF - I've given you #19 back and taken your figures from your signature. Your all updated on the spreadsheet.
I totally get the 'what if' thoughts......it's there because our inner MSE has been trained to be financially prepared
The urge to pay off some of the mortgage may spur you on to reach your EF goal sooner or maybe take the leisurely route to your goal by saving half and paying off half each month. So if you plan on saving £100 per month for example, pop £50 of that into your EF and the other £50 on your mortgage (that would be £600 per year off your mortgage before you ever reach your EF goal
Whichever route you decide to take, we will be cheering you on from the side-lines.
Always remember to keep on keeping on,
Dobbi

Thanks Dobbibill! I love the idea of half on the mortgage and half on the EF, I'm going to crunch some numbers and give that a go!3-6 month EF Challenge Member #19: £3590/£6000.[/B] Craft destash from 22.5.22: 46/200. Declutter from 22.5.22: 105/250 Car finance PAID OFF £7,848.88 IN 2019 (0% LOB)1
