I am looking for cover for my 3 year old combi boiler homeserve are currently offering boiler cover for less than £7 a month...as a new customer would anyone recomend this ??
  • anyone got any thoughts on this please??
  • Homeserve's had a Winter sale on for a while now, but the leading offers have just improved. The cheapest boiler cover is now less than £6 a month, but the top-end product that covers pretty much everything (boiler, central heating, plumbing, etc) is now less than half price, only £8.99 per month. Add £45 cashback that you can get through the likes of TopCashBack and Quidco and you'll agree this is a seriously good deal.

I have a Homecare agreement with British Gas, including plumbing and electrics cover. When they were called out to a boiler less than 2 years old, it took three or four visits before they found what the fault was. I put this down to a glitch. Since then, there have been no more breakdowns.
I took the agreement out in August and booked the annual service for August, as it's a quiet time of year.
In the intervening four years the annual service has slipped back. A service for November was cancelled with less than 24 hours notice, and then a service for December 6th was cancelled with less than 24 hours notice.
The earliest they can give me a service is now January 17th.
I work from home on the days the service was booked for - just as well! I would have hated to have lost wages over this.
You don't have to be a genius to realise than in a few years I will have paid for say, 9 annual services, but only received 8.
I do realise that breakdowns should have a higher priority than a routine service.
That's why I originally booked for August - very few breakdowns then!
I consider this really poor service.
    Has anyone had similar experiences?

Trawled through the thread and found that several of you have had the same experience....

  • Just stumbled across a new boiler cover company - Boilermedic:
    http://boilermedic.com/index.php

They claim to offer a lot more than the bigger players including Powerflushing and boiler descaling....never seen that before.
    http://boilermedic.com/compare.php

Ploughed through their Terms & Conditions but it really needs someone in the know to pick through the bones...

Thoughts? Main drawback at the moment is that they only appear to operate in very limited areas (unless I've misunderstood).

One of the Director's is on LinkedIn:

(Sorry Jon, that photo has got to go mate, just looks dodgy...)

    Thoughts on this?
  • I'd be a bit wary of that Boilermedic company.

First of all, while the "only £99" price point is being pushed as a bargain price, it's not actually that good. If you look at the comparison table it may seem reasonable, but that table is out of date and incomplete - for example, it fails to mention that the £18.69 product from Homeserve also covers other areas of your home, including plumbing, central heating, security, pest infestations, etc, so clearly this isn't a like-for-like comparison (aside to the fact that the £18.69 product is only £8.99 currently!).

Secondly, I personally don't have any trust in businesses whose websites clearly haven't been updated. If you look at Boilermedic's homepage, the £99 offer apparently expired in October!

Doh! Well spotted. They also only seem to serve a very narrow area of London despite your being able to choose what area of the country you live in. I guess they've probably gone under by now.

It is cheap as they charge £50 per callout! Also notice on some plans, boilers over 7 years old are not covered. :(

Has anyone any actual experience of Homeserve?
