Two Speeding Tickets at exactly the same time

I phoned Thames Valley Police a few minutes ago and it turns out the timings were eleven seconds apart.
They have agreed to cancel the second ticket which means my wife gets to spend a few more months on the road.
Just watch out if you're ever near the Herts / Bucks border!
I am in no way condoning what your wife has done as she needs to give some serious attention to her driving, but, being given 2 tickets 11 seconds apart I would have thought there would be enough doubt in the accuracy of the camera to question both tickets. I am still here after getting caught speeding in the USA
Me too. It was a highway with 3 lanes each way, which I took for a main highway - I didn't realise it was still a 30 limit! (I was doing 40).
Fortunately the cop couldn't find a way to (easily) ticket a driver with a UK licence so I got away with it.0 -

I didnt get away with it..$400 plus fine, although when i went to pay the sheriffs clerk said...thats way too much, lets see what I can do , she put it through as a parking fine , it reduced it to about $1750 -
She drives an automatic with glasses unfortunately...Bonniepurple wrote: »I am going to be blunt here. You wife is a dangerous driver. Yes, we all speed. Yes, we all have scrapes and the odd accident. From your description, your wife has poor observation skills, drives inappropriately for the conditions and speeds. Your son (8) does not like being driven by her. That speaks volumes.
I would suggest 3 things. One, an eye test. Can she see to drive? Not the legal minimum, but would glasses help? Two, lessons. I suffer from examiner syndrome and got very nervous on test. A set of lessons would help her confidence. Finally, I find an automatic much, much easier to drive than a manual. Maybe a smaller engined automatic would help?
If she’s tried all that, then I honestly feel she shouldn’t be on the road.0 -
How long ago was this? (Mine was about 20 years ago, in Freeport, Illinois - quite a "hick" place so maybe the police weren't so clued up on such things).I didnt get away with it..$400 plus fine, although when i went to pay the sheriffs clerk said...thats way too much, lets see what I can do , she put it through as a parking fine , it reduced it to about $1750 -
Op.
Do not allow your wife to supervise your children on cycles. For heavens sake keep them alive...0 -
Never did update here. I was advised on Pepipoo to simply give the ticket issuing office a call.
They immediately agreed to only take the higher reading into account.
So three points is better than 6, car insurance has just had to be renewed and at £455 for the year she can't complain too much, when she has nine points on her licence.
Thanks everyone for your help.0 -

Anyway, it turns out that the first speed (42mph) was recorded by a mobile unit, and the 36mph recorded 400m down the road by a fixed camera.
I've been on the Pepipoo site and the consensus is that this is one continuous offence and should be treated as such. There is also an argument that she wasn't given the opportunity to modify her behaviour between the first and second reading. It is highly unlikely that she slowed to below 30mph and then went back up to 36 in the 400m between the first and second reading (this would allow it to be seen as two offences). It could probably be shown quite easily that it would be impossible for this to be the case, although this would involve me having to do some maths!
Question is, how do we approach the NIPs? I'll obviously let the police know my wife was driving, but then she will receive two FPNs. Does she accept one but not the other? Or neither?
I am puzzled why the SCAM would set up so close to a fixed camera. This seems bizarre as surley all their "clients" are likely to get 2 tickets
I shudder to think that there are people driving who seem to not see either a fixed camera nor a Mobile unit and apparantly don't know that either of them were present.
I do fear that it is just a matter of time before your wife hurts someone
Perhaps you should buy a car with a speed limit function. My car has one and it works really well and I am sure has prevented speeding fines0 -

Wow that's unbelievably low for someone on 9 points and multiple claims!!0 -
RonnyRaygun wrote: »To be fair, she's already come close - six points last year for driving without due care and attention. The motorcyclist was lucky to escape with a broken ankle (As a cyclist I understand how often cars pull out at junctions without looking properly but it's no excuse). I've never been knocked off my bike yet, but I've had to take evasive action on many occasions.
To be blunt (not trying to be rude but don't want to beat around the bush), I'm slightly concerned that you don't class causing physical injury to another person as a serious accident.RonnyRaygun wrote: »All our money goes into the same pot - just the way it is, it's a family budget
The kids and her mum definitely prefer to be in the car when I'm driving. On the few occasions that I've been a passenger in a car with her I just get the impression that she's a really nervous driver, which probably affects her decision making, which makes her indecisive. I don't think she reads the road particularly well or anticipates the actions of other road users. She isn't generally a fast driver but, like many people, she sometimes slows down to 30 shortly after the sign, especially where the 30 sign is some distance prior to the built-up area. At the location in question the limit is 50mph prior to the 30 sign, and she had begun to slow down (and yes, I have had the conversation that you are supposed to be doing 30mph at the point you reach the sign).
She was caught with a 6mph speed differential 11 seconds (or approx 200m) apart. The stopping distance from 40mph to 0 (including thinking distance) is 24m and is based on outdated figures for cars that didn't have the advances we have now in modern cars. She took nearly 10 times that just to drop 6mph. Slowing down shortly after the sign? I'd be telling her that the other one has bells on.
Arguably your wife is the most dangerous type of driver - not because she's made mistakes but because she hasn't seemed to learn from them. Good judgement comes from experience. Sometimes experience comes from bad judgement.
My mum isn't the best driver. Used to lack confidence, now lacks confidence and concentration. I mentioned to my siblings that we should keep an eye on her as I don't think she'll be safe to drive much longer. I wouldn't want harm to befall her or anyone else, even worse if I was aware of the danger she caused and didn't try to do anything.hollie.weimeraner wrote: »I am in no way condoning what your wife has done as she needs to give some serious attention to her driving, but, being given 2 tickets 11 seconds apart I would have thought there would be enough doubt in the accuracy of the camera to question both tickets. As above, at the speeds mentioned, thats around 200m apart. Perfectly possible for both cameras to be accurate.
Reminds me of the uncertainty principle. In a nutshell, something has to move position in order for it to have speed. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0
