Two Speeding Tickets at exactly the same time

On Saturday morning two letters arrived addressed to me, one stating that my car was caught by camera do 36mph in a 30 zone, the other stating 42mph in exactly the same location, at the same time, on the same day!

My wife has fessed up to rushing to pick up our younger son from school, but based on the above, where do we stand legally?

Thanks!

I do not think you can get 2 motoring convictions on the same time and date and location - you were either doing 36 or 42.
  • Interesting! That surely points that there's a fault/error and the ticket should just be cancelled? I'll be interested to see the outcome. Can you ask for photo evidence of each?

I'd suggest you phone them, pointing out the obvious error. You never know, they might cancel both out of embarrassment.

If that doesn't work and things drag on, you must reply naming the driver within 28 days, otherwise you've committed a more serious offence.

BTW, even at the higher speed your wife should be offered an awareness course if she qualifies.

Not sure about this - my local SCAM 'partnership' has a 20%+2mph limit for SA courses so 38mph in 30mph

Then they are going to go out of business pretty soon if they are only offering Speed Awareness courses for the small window between what they start prosecuting at and 38mph. It is generally only the surplus from the Speed Awareness Courses that keep the 'Safety' Camera Partnerships on the road.

I recon you need to head over to pepipoo and register and ask there.

Well you'd better tell the Norfolk Constabulary.

Most forces (in E & W) seem still to be following the ex-ACPO guidelines of offering courses up to 110% + 9mph, i.e. 42 in a 30 limit.

Thanks, I'll try giving them a call. No chance of a speed awareness course, as she did one quite recently.
This will be at least three points which will take her up to nine (and only by some stroke of good fortune did she not get the points for a traffic light violation recently).

She is worried as she has just started doing this route (one son changed schools), and she thinks she *probably* went past the camera at about the same speed every day for a week...so we are crossing our fingers and hoping no more letters come through. A ban would be a catastrophe!
