I'd respond to both asking for the evidence to identify the driver. If you're lucky it may be an error, but she may have gone through 2 cameras on the same stretch.

If she's been speeding past them daily, given that they are usually bright yellow, she really need to readers her driving if she somehow doesn't get banned.

I do not want to sound smug but her driving leaves a lot to be desired, maybe a ban would sort her out.

:rotfl: I'd better not let her see this!!

I haven't yet told you about the number of insurance claims she's made in the last ten years (and other prangs for which the insurers weren't involved).

I'd never made a claim on my policy until I added her as a named driver, she wrote off my last car...

Why is it I can see these great big luminous yellow boxes but she can't?

But a ban would be a catastrophe!

I totally agree, and after the last points she promised to be more careful.

I know the route well, and there is only one camera on the stretch.

well it looks like a ban would be the ideal situation,
I mean you've admitted that she'd be on 9 pts if she receives a 3 pointer and if she managed to double up on a road that has two speeding cameras like we have then a ban could be on the cards, added to that you've also said she ran a red light and got away with that and she's already had a speeding awareness course you have to question why this happening,
maybe if she actual caused an accident or even worse taken a child's life as it sounds like its on a school run would that then make her understand.

having read all the posts on here not one person has said anything but to try and save you money by not paying a fine that sounds like she truly deserves, I'm not a saint my self and I'm not posting to just cause an argument but sit down and think this one over, take a look at your own child and imagine that another driver was speeding and taken your child away from you its a no brainer

I totally agree with everything you say. But, the fact is a ban would be a catastrophe for us personally as a family, and it probably won't change her driving. Unfortunately she is simply not the most observant of people.

I leave for work at 7.15 most days, and she has to get my son to school (2 miles away) before then going on to work. She then picks the him up after work and brings them home. Not to mention the clubs etc that she takes him to.

I've told her she might have to think about cycling to work like me, but that would also mean my eight year old son having to cycle too. It may well come to that.

Believe me, I've done everything I can to try to get her to be more careful, but nothing has worked so far.

    Hardly catastrophic. Inconvenient, perhaps.

I totally agree with everything you say. But, the fact is a ban would be a catastrophe for us personally as a family, and it probably won't change her driving. - Well it would in the sense she would no longer be driving... Unfortunately she is simply not the most observant of people.

The simple fact is, and im not trying to be holier than thou, we all make mistakes - she makes a lot more than the average driver. At some point she has to either improve her driving, or stop. It's not fair on other road users.

Totally agree - just not sure how we improve her driving, and she isn't going to stop of her own free will, due to the huge inconvenience it will cause.

I cycle a twenty mile round trip to work and back every day. The odds of getting my wife to do half that are slim to none. Which would leave taxis, which would mean it would hardly be worth going to work...and we need her to have a job.

Her mum gave up driving in her 40s because she realised herself it wasn't safe for her to be on the road. Her dad (age 62) is probably the world's slowest driver, yet still always has at least six points on his licence for speed camera violations. It beggars belief, but it certainly runs in the family.

I wish there was a simple answer. More driving lessons? Sat nav that tells you where cameras are would at least help...

If my partner had 9 points and as many insurance claims I would sell her car and that would be that.

(and glad you're taking this as it's intended by the way, many don't). she's going to end up in the local paper at this rate.

I wish there was a simple answer. More driving lessons? Sat nav that tells you where cameras are would at least help...

Most sat navs do tell you about stationary cameras. But the issue isn't not getting caught. It's about not potentially killing someone.

I don't want it to be melodramatic, but what happens if she kills someone? That's worst case obviously.
  • She's a bad driver. If she already has 9 points and looks like racking more up then it's hard to defend her really.

The old saying "if you can't do the time...." may well apply here. I get that a ban will cause considerable hardship and inconvenience but she has got to learn to slow down or stop driving!
