Interesting. its well worth keeping post it notes in your bag/wallet and noting what products have what promotion end dates on them.
Our store is a 24 hour store and it has often puzzled me as to when promotions actually finish. For instance recently 5 alive and Nestle fitness were on special and the shelf edge said the promotion ended May 17th. Not quite mad enough to go into Tesco at midnight or 12.10 to see if they'd changed the label or wether the bar code checker machine would scan different just before or just after midnight.
Very envious of all the lovely bargains people have collected form misscanned Tesco products. All I've mananged to get was 6 bottles of wine and the only clearance bargains I've found have been several cans of Dove deodarant and a bottle of baby shampoo

Chicken thighs - shelf marked down to 99p / lb but still scan at original price of 1.22 / lb.
I picked up two packs (for free) today.

Does anyone know what would happen if you queried an item which had the wrong price label placed on the front of the shelf in front of the stack of items.
Quite clearly and often it seems, a shelf stacker probably has stacked the shelves with the wrong product or maybe forgot to change the ticket on the shelf.
I know the ticket on the shelf usually has the product name on it as well as the price but I am wondering if anyone has challenged Tesco yet about this, and if so, what happened.
In any Tesco I visit this seems to happen very often, you notice a good price for what appears to be the product standing behind it only to find that it isnt really for that price.

Why don't you complain and say that you use them and they help you while shop to double check the odd price.
I know the walmart/Asda at patchway/filton use to have a scanner but not so sure now. It is really funny as soon as you scan something the kids watch you and then start grabbing things off the selves to scan it themselves.
I feel sorry for the staff having to put the items back

To me that is being lazy. I have stacked shelves so know what I am talking about.
And one practice we had was to infill to make all the shelves look pretty and full. So if you had no stock you would take some of the stock from either side and fill the gap with a few. To give the illusion that is was all filled.
I personally as a shopper find that very bad practice as you pick the wrong item up. Rather have an empty gap.
It does not a few seconds to look at a label and work out what it is.
I can now read the shelf labels in supermarkets. Do you think it will help me get a job. :rotfl:

In short the answer is YES!
On far too many an occasion to list here, you will always find that the price is the most prominent thing on any "point of sale" material, for example the shelf edge label will usually be around five times the size of the normal price indacator, this is to draw your attention to the fact there is an offer which may be of interest to you, the burdon is not on you as a shopper herding two snot nosed would be Torvil and Deans (knees are an excellent substitute in the absence of skates) away from the triple choc double cream extra thick coated biscuits to examine each and every product to ensure it is displayed properly it is on the retailer.
I suggest the following process should you notice an item misplaced,
If there is one available use the scanner to determine if the price advertised is the price you will pay for the product in the advertised space.
If it scans higher, then, provided the product has been deliberately faced, ie more than say two or more in the advertised space, simply add to your shopping and checkout.
Once you have checked out go to customer services and point out the error you should if the staff are following correct procedure be re-imbursed and also keep the product under Tesco's refund and replace policy.
IF
You are given any excuse the most popular being "dumpers" a term used to describe a shopper who on noticing a special offer exchanges the product from their basket for the offer item and thus leaving an incorrect product on the display, this can be argued away immediately by marching the assistant to the display and pointing out that this clearly isn't the case.
Another being that the product has been "filled in" as explained in an earlier post, and that this is not an overcharge you have been charged the correct price for a bigger/different flavour pack, again not your problem if the POS states a price it is reasonable of you to expect to be charged that price for the item displayed and not have to bring a magnifying glass/set of scales/measuring tape etc along to the store just to make sure.
Disarm any budding Hitlers with three simple words..... I CAN'T READ!
Game over you win!
and remember folks ANY overcharge whatever the reason warrants "refund and replace" if you get any opposition from over zealous staff just climb the ladder till they yield, customer service....supervisor.......department manager...customer service manager....store manager......if there is still any dispute INSIST they contact customer services whilst you are still in the store don't forget your pen and paper everyone has a badge if they haven't ask their name and also mention when you finally speak to customer service that they weren't wearing it, pay particular attention to the titles people use as frequently busy bodies will pose as senior members of staff to impede your progress "Well actually I am the supervisor/only person on the dept/acting manager/god etc" again if ever anyone describes themselves deceptively raise this with customer services and DO sound indignant when putting your case it is their policy it is not an obligation it is there to give you confidence to shop in their store without fear of being overcharged and an implication that you may be elsewhere, it is a WORTHLESS promise and a PLOY if they put obstacles in your way to take advantage of it!Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -
I couldn't find any bar code scanners in the Aylesbury store this lunchtime - there was a big hole in the wall with all the usual posters saying "scan your items here..." though. Looks like it had been removed very recently.
Can we assume that they know people are getting wise thanks to MSE and have started removing the scanners to make it more difficult for us to find their mistakes??You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0 -
Possibly - the one in my local store beeped and came up with the same product at £1.99 whatever I scanned!0

Just to say the Commando Corps toy tanks are in my Tescos with the sticker saying 7.84 crossed out to say 7.40 and then in red font in between "saving 44p", the shelf edge is saying 7.97
I don't need them so didn't bother.0
