    Hi all, thought I'd post for a change as I've been AWOL for a little while (last update in April and I couldn't tell you when I last posted!).

    Had a lot going on at home over the last 18 months with buying an investment property then my DP going on long term sick and eventually losing his job. We've been ticking over thanks to a part time contract job he managed to get, but just had to remortgage both properties. All is well thanks to savings, the main issue being a downvalue on the rental meaning that 'we' had to clear a lump sum off the mortgage to afford the new deal. I've paid this off out of my savings and the small profit we make will pay it back to me over the 5 year term while still leaving a bit left over, so it's all good in thay respect.

    Still got a lot of other stuff going on, such is life, but hope to be a bit more on it with my updates from here!

  • Morning all.

    #147 sloping in with totals from the last few months as I’ve been AWOL.
    April=2720.21
    May=1430.61
    June=625.63

    My total is now 9562.16. I may revise my target at some point but will wait to see how much work the car needs next week (I think it might be a fair bit).

    I revised my target upwards because I got two unexpectedly large lump sums - an inheritance from Mum's estate, and a larger than usual annual bonus from work (although the latter has pushed me into the 45% tax bracket, plus I'm having to pay back unpaid tax on the 2017/2018 tax year because my employer didn't declare all my taxable benefits on the P11D, as well as the current year). I'm almost as pleased by the extra amounts I save from tillytidying as I am from the lump sums. It feels real to actually transfer those few pounds from one account to another.

    hi all, no. 15 here reporting a not especially impressive £351.66 for June, bringing my yearly total so far to £4,634.39 - not halfway there yet, but it's still doable. I need to pull my socks up a bit for the second half of the year though. Also, sorry the update is a bit late! I have been focussing on other things, which is maybe why I haven't got as much saved from last month as I'd like.

    Could you pay some of that extra into a SIPP to keep you under the 45% tax bracket without breaching the Pensions lifetime allowance? it seems a shame not to get the tax relief on it if you can...

    Apologies, a little late with the June update which is, -£112.77. Down to a big spend on a wonderful 22 day break in Thailand which took all of one maturing regular saver plus some more. Not very MSE but boy was it good. Revised target now to £60,000 from £62,000, keeping my hands firmly in my pockets for the next few months

    Hey all, late update - been busy! - but managed to add another £1,862.95 to the pot, taking me to 54.9% of my target at the half way point for the year. I think the second half of the year is going to be leaner, but I reckon if I don't get to my target I'll get to 95% or so. Will keep stretching to try and get to the full amount though, giving myself a full money-makeover this year and every little helps.

    Keep up the good work everyone!
  • Declaring £2000 for July early, assuming no disasters before the end of the month!

    Next month should be a sparse one for savings with a holiday and decorating the sitting room planned. I always think it's just going to be the cost of a couple tins of paint, but already I'm looking at new blinds, lights and moving a radiator. And while I've got a plumber in, there's other odd stuff needs doing round the house...!
