Been to visit my Dad today who always saves his 5ps for me. So I have potted £4.65 worth of 5ps and £12 in £2 coins.
  • 46p, comprised of roadkill x 2 plus change.

Keen to break the £70 total by the end of the month. Fingers crossed.

Potted my last 30p for the week earlier this evening. All weekly funds either spent, allocated to bills, potted, or saved. Don't have anything else I need to spend prior to pay day on Wednesday. Amazing how considering the money mantras makes you think before spending.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.
  • Hi all . . .

Well at least the snow didn't arrive here but it's certainly colder and they say getting worse as the week goes on!.

Hope everyone is keeping warm, there's an extra woollen blanket been put on the bed which makes a huge difference once tucked up under the duvet . . . I refuse to alter the heating to stay on longer in the evenings but it may soon be time to light the fires.
The main source of heating is biomass and it's very effective but this year, we are also trialling new heat blocks in the open fires.
Believe me, living in a Castle during winter isn't always as cosy as it looks.

Anyway, onto money saving and potting . . . I managed to get our telephone and broadband reduced by moving to Plusnet and now it also includes all calls, even to mobiles.
I was with BT, been with them for over 30 years and I asked them for discount as a loyal customer.
They came back and offered a piddly discount of £2.50 a month.
Got a quote from Plusnet and a better package for £30 a MONTH cheaper than BT (saving £540 over an 18 month fixed price contract)
As Plusnet is part of BT, I cannot understand the vast difference in prices.

Next, I looked at my mobile. It's really only for emergency use and I own my phone outright.
Have been paying £25 a month,. I weighed up how often I use it away from home and finally realised that I am actually paying twice for the benefit of having the internet on my phone as well as at home.
Most things I deal with in my office using the house broadband and phone.

Having contacted my mobile provider and passed a credit check to change my sim to the basic that they offer (couldn't believe they needed to credit check me for this!!) I am now on a sim costing just £7 a month . . . a saving of £216 over a year at current prices.

I've decided to pot some of the savings over the year but, a proportion will also be set aside towards the never ending increase in grocery shopping and other expenses. Believe me though, living in a Castle does not mean that we eat or drink like Kings . . . and yes, I love Aldi and B&M is my one of my favourite shops.

To all my fellow potters, I urge you to take a look at trying to lower your outgoings. For even more savings, use a cashback site wherever you can. Everything was easy and hassle free and there are big savings to be had for very little effort.
I know this is something that I should have started looking at months ago but I just kept putting it off, thinking that it would be nothing but hassle . . . It definately isn't.

For now . . . Keep well, keep safe and keep warm.

Happy 50th James, I hope you had a fabulous birthday :)

A quiet weekend for me, met up with DD and we visited the grandparents together. It's always good to visit my mother with someone else, as she has very limited speech and can hardly keep her eyes open now, so at least you can chat with someone while you are there. DH's parents were in good spirits though and we had a lovely afternoon catching up with them.

Haven't spent a lot of cash over the weekend, but I do have 69p to pot today. Keep warm and safe fellow Potters. See you later in the week. :)

Evening folks, I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and are throwing yourselves into the week ahead! :j Ah well, maybe not, but do your best.
To all those of you who are unwell or who are low in spirits, take great care of yourselves. Get well soon and {{{{hugs}}}} from all the SPC family. :grinheart

    Hello Kerfuffle,
Ah, it's ok as I remember you putting a post on about a fortnight or so ago, so I guess you just missed it when checking back. Well done on your most cash potted! I hope you and the family are all well. No doubt it's pretty cold and snowy with you in Canada! :D

Hiya Raggle, nice work in what you've potted!! :j Don't worry though as even you count each sum that you put in each time you'll never hold it in your head - not unless you purposely do so. So, look forward to the surprise!!

Excellent work CapricornLass, a good way to 'save coupons'!! :D

Isn't it amazing just how many ways we're able to save, Frogletina! Very well done!

Ooooh how lovely of your Dad, Iheart!! It's so kind of him, bless him. :grinheart

Good for you Saving Glut, don't worry though as you'll no doubt reach it soon enough. Patience is a virtue!!

It's brilliant how words and phrases stick in your head at times of making purchases eh, datlex! I bet we do shops out of a fortune!! :rotfl:Well done with all you've saved!!

Don't discount that snow yet, DukeOfSomewhere! There's plenty of winter still to go yet so I should keep that extra blanket where it is! Is it true that you really do live in a castle?!
We have as much heat as is necessary, not wasting it at all but both hubby & I both feel the cold and don't intend to nearly freeze for anyone!
Fantastic work in getting such a good deal with Plusnet, an excellent firm too! :D Very many thanks for all your advice to us all on cashback sites, though I think most of us are on them.
    Take care of yourself.

Those are good gains you're getting via your gym, Dreamworlded!! :D

Wow Lucifa, that's an awesome amount you collected from the box, incredible!!!! :j

That's an interesting idea of visiting your Mum, siju. All too often the way you've described her is the reason folk give for stopping visiting elderly loved ones. Though I understand what they mean, in their more lucid moments it wouldn't surprise me if they remember us being there. I heard someone say once "that whatever gifts you give, the most precious time you can give is your time!" So very true. :grinheart

I'm pleased that visiting your in-laws was enjoyable, for them too no doubt. Saving wise, 69p is still very good!!

Good work with the £1 saved, SSDD23!!

Enjoy your Tuesday, folks!! Pot whatever whenever!! :j

    Sue

  • Hi Sue-UU

Glad to hear that you and hubby are keeping warm.
In reply to your recent question . . . I do indeed live in a castle.
It has been in the family for years and now it's my turn . . . I absolutely love it.

I have the main part and there are four apartments that previous generations converted, which are rented out. The rents from these help pay for the upkeep but having said that, every extra pound saved is a bonus . . . which is why I am enjoying this challenge so much.

Keep well and keep those pots fed, whenever you can. It all adds up and makes it worthwhile.
