    Hi all:j

NSDs First one in the bag today! 1/15

ORGANISE your time. Trying to do this as slightly panicking that we are going away in a few days for 2 weeks & I am as always not ready....writing down things to be done 'before we go' & things that DH can do (he did ask).

VALUES Differentiate between needs and wants. Guilty of getting back on the bay of E & spotting 'bargains' that are definitely a want not a need. Must desist from late night trawling..

    ENJOY
yourself. Have fun. Had a few jokes as a family this afternoon before DD set off on her night shift.

MAKE an inventory of the food in your cupboards, fridge and freezer at the start of the month. Also must do this but am away for 2 weeks in the middle of the month. However, hoping not to buy any more food before we leave - other than shopping for DD who is house & pet sitting, although apparently under duress if today's rant is anything to go by.

BUDGETS should be set before the start of the month - Have budget for hols as money is in euro account already. All treats & meals to come out of that, but I think hotel (first 4 days) is already paid for, must check.

EXERCISE 4 times a week, 20 minutes a day. Out today for the requisite 20 mins, racing round the garden with the dogs. They are faster than me I have to say..

RULES Turtle rules can be difficult at first. Will do my best to abide by them.

IN case of emergency Add any items you might need Will get DH to do this for both us & DD. We do have breakdown cover (here & Ireland) & the numbers are in the glove box already. Will check meds but we usually have a fair stock of hot lemons & generic painkillers etc, both here & have tons in Ireland as so expensive over there.

NOW is always the right time to start. Was successful last month & will continue this month - apart from hols - as much as possible. Am making better choices & thinking instead of mindlessly eating..

    NO takeaways, No takeaways today.

EVERYONE Am DF but always could do with more savings towards experiences or holidays.

EXTRA Have a ton of stuff that needs to be sold. Will deal with when back from hols.

WINTER Have already got fleeces on curtains but could do more. Old house with draughty windows & doors, needs a lot of heat to feel warm. Have logs/lighter logs for open fire & gas CH plus an Aga. Engineering coming to service it plus see to gas fire in room without CH. Heave heated duvet on beds, throws thermals & etc., plus thermal lined trousers. Do not have heating on as yet (unless visitors). Have portable gas fire with new gas bottle. Need to get coal.

YOU should cook from scratch As a general rule always cook from scratch, will make some soups for DD when she is here.

OUTSIDE Always feel better when outside rather than in, always have.

    REPORT regularly I'm here.

    Go Turtles !!!!

KINDNESS costs nothing. Tried to be kind to family even though severely provoked. Gave young grandson of man who came to do fence - aged 11 - some money for helping his grandad.

New start JAN15 - NOT BUYING IT 2015 . Long haul DFW #145 : 2011 DEBTBUSTING : £5500 OD GONE, £2000 OD - GONE £93,610.30 cc & loan debt - GONE 27.6.14 FINALLY DEBT & MORTGAGE FREE :happyhear
  • A spend day here although very much enjoyed catching up with my bestie so a tick in the Enjoy box. Made my charity donation as I was spending anyway.

Made a food plan for the next few days including ideas to use up some lingering bits in the cupboard. Took double of my hm egg mayo sarnies in to work so I wouldn’t be starving when I went out.

Went for a walk at lunch, without my purse just to be on the safe side. Got some daylight and exercise. Checked med supplies all ok and no car so dug my scarf qnd gloves out to stay warm instead.

So far so good, using a few more tools from the toolbox today.

    Sleep well all.

    Day 2

Breathe. let go. And remind yourself that this very moment is the only one you know you have for sure.

Apologies I was unable to post last night, had to rush around to the vet and then a meeting after work and had a rough sleep the night before so was shattered.

Yesterday wasn't a NSD, it was my leaving lunch at work, so bought some chips. Also bought a drink at this meeting. Spends were under £4 which is good. Most direct debits went through yesterday, so all the big stuff is paid. Got loads of vouchers from work so I should be able to find myself a decent winter coat, although I'm still going to look in the charity shop just in case!
  • Good morning! :coffee:
Unexpected day off work for me today. DS is poorly and I don't have anyone else available to look after him. Plus he's quite clingy with me at the moment anyway so I didn't want to leave him. The guilt about work is immense but he needs me and that is more important. I know he's bad because he's gone back to sleep.
So a day on house arrest for me as well today. I am planning to do a bit of cooking (I know) and planning for the rest of the month while I have a bit of time. Should be another nsd, even if I get more Calpol in. I will try and make the most of a few spare hours and relax as much as I can.
Lauren - good luck with saying no. I know it's hard, but you'll feel so much better afterwards.

greent/apple - I use a body brush for dry skin brushing instead of body scrubs, it's pretty much a one off purchase and it makes the skin super soft and increases circulation, I use mine daily before I shower. The big plus point for me is there is no waste.

lauren - 'friends' would not be taking advantage of you like that.

Still having a nightmare with my mum's bank account, turns out it wasn't BT that called her it was a company called Opton Telecom (all mum heard was telecom) they are a company targeting the elderly and they ended up getting £99 from mum. Barclays really let us down and they are a complete pain to call as she cannot understand the people on the phone (African by the sound of it) and they ask her several security questions, surely banks should have a different way of dealing with the elderly.

Please warn elderly relatives etc about this company.

thriftylass I love your quiet morning time approach - did this come from the course you went on or is it your version? (Congrats on getting DH on board with the finances and excellent budget reductions).

    Thank you.

The getting up early thing came from a combination of the course, various youtube videos about time management esp as a working mum, needing to find me time/more time etc. Youtube is my new addiction, subscribed to a few channels and watch them at lunch time on the bike in the gym :p

Yesterday was a SFD today won't be as I will pick an ASDA order up. Again just £56 rather than the £70+ from before and then still doing a fresh fruit shop on Sat.

No gym today as I feel a bit under the weather but might go for a walk in the lovely sunshine.

Tonight I hopefully get to finish the kids crochet scarves/cowls and read.

    Have a good day

Lady Kernow did you want the NSD challenge? If you do it's called 'Nifty November NSD Challenge' this month.

We are the Ninja Saving Turtles, we do count our NSDs/ Spend Free Days but we do a lot of other things besides, a sort of holistic mind and body approach.

You are welcome to join us if you want but I wouldn't want to deceive you if we are not what you want.

AH I didn't realise this but actually like the sound of Turtles better I really need the whole package as I am prone to S.A.D!

Managed day 1 yesterday no trouble, still feeling very under the weather from a 2 week cold but powering through, might try and go to the gym later and sweat it out in the sauna

ORGANISE your time. Had blood donation appt today but failed on iron levels

The only two times I ever failed the iron levels were when I was on WW plan.
Luckily I realised after the 2nd refusal, as if you have 3 in a row they ban you for life. I found if I came off plan and ate like a normal person (a hungry normal person) from 48 hours in advance, my levels were fine. So if you are losing weight (or trying to) that may be the cause.

F0xh0les aren't you worried that, if you ban shorts, the boys will become postmen when they grow up, out of sheer contrariness.
The conversation on the playground went pretty much the same way, mothernerd, they would either be the muppet who wears shorts in the snow, or a postman. Still it makes it easier for some of the mums if we all say 'from 1st Nov - long trousers' so that the kids don't try and gang up on us - but so-and-so is still in shorts. There was an attempted mutiny this morning, I only had to make him go upstairs to change 3 times.....

Yesterday was not a NSD, today I need a few little bits (sub £10) so will pick them up and then I am set for the weekend, and most of next week.

    All Meals planned,

I vaguely know what I am doing

Might go hunt for that wrapping paper....
