Please can I join in this month even though I am a couple of days late? Our remortgage goes through on Monday and will reduce our outgoings by almost £1000/month. I want to focus on saving, not my natural preference, and the rules this month seem a really good fit to keep me on track.

NSDs – always struggle with this so aiming for 10. More planning required!

ORGANISE your time – yes, I have a full-time job that often takes me away from home and an 8-year-old and I am busy but am I a bit lazy too? I would like to achieve more and have a clean and organised home, find time to exercise and spend quality time as a family. Every weekend in December is booked up and I am doing Christmas for the family this year. My first task is to dust off my bu-jo and get some lists made.

VALUES – our focus in on saving a big emergency fund against job loss

ENJOY yourself – planning a family cinema trip (free tickets), watching Sabrina (don’t watch much telly), a family swim and reading my book and a long walk with friends

MAKE an inventory of the food in your cupboards, fridge and freezer – on my to do list

BUDGETS – all done in YNAB. Shoebox appeal and children in need this month through school.

EXERCISE 4 times a week, 20 minutes a day – aiming for 2 sessions of 40 minutes each week as starting from zero

RULES – I will do my best

IN case of emergency – I have a newish company car that has assistance included and already have de-icer and a scraper in it. Will add a fleece, a bottle of water and some washer fluid.

Stock up with generic painkillers, cold and flu meds – need some lemsip

NOW – restarting healthy eating habits (again) and becoming a saver

NO takeaways – As DH is on a 6-week diet and fitness plan this month we will not be having any. I do have a family fun budget which covers coffee out etc. but none planned while DH loses 20lb!

EVERYONE following a re-mortgage to consolidate most of our debt this month, our remaining debt is on 0% and will tick over as we focus on saving our big EF and for next year’s holiday

EXTRA income – lots of DVDS and books to sell after clearing shelves, also have a pile of DS branded clothes to sell. DH also has a chance to earn an extra bonus by end of the year so will support where I can.

WINTER proof your home – bought 2 draught excluders today and had a part fitted by British gas engineer to fix heating. We have had a H1ve fitted so need to set the schedule.

YOU should cook from scratch when you can – DH 6-week fitness/diet plan which I will be doing also (but not 100%) requires cooking from scratch and meal prep. I will prepare lunches and snacks when travelling with work. There will be the odd freezer meal for convenience for me and DS.

OUTSIDE – school run am, watching DS training Sunday and weekend dog walks

REPORT – starting today!

KINDNESS – I will focus on words and thoughts with less moaning about the people causing frustration at work which makes me worry about the project's longevity
Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%
Pay off £7000 - £1743 - 19.4%
Make £2021 extra income - £99.75
• Morning all :coffee:
I actually kind of enjoyed my day off yesterday. DS and I had a good day - and he's feeling a bit better now. We watched The Greatest Showman for the millionth time.
I also had a bit of time to plan, and think. I'm desperately trying to let go of the things that I can't control (ex's behaviour) and just focus on the positives, but this is no easy task for me. I've reread Jack's cookbooks and made a couple of plans, and I ended up bunging a load of food in the freezer that I didn't see myself being able to use short term.
Also got some crochet done, and a lot of relaxing so I felt quite refreshed by the end of it.
I don't think today will be a nsd as I need to pop into town for a couple of things. Also have tutoring for a couple of hours at lunchtime (much needed extra £).
Mothernerd - thank you for your daily inspiration, always amazing. Hope you have recovered from your day of small things going wrong yesterday. :grouphug:
• Phone keeps eating my posts  - another try at this week's goals

NSDs: aimimg for 15 this month, on 1/15 so far.

Organise: am getting better at planning out my days, which means I'm justified in having decent relaxation time.

Values: aiming for CC OPs over treats. I did buy a book but I've been waiting on the new release for months.

Enjoy: I love this time of year, even grey November days. Time for hot chocolate, baked potatoes and STOO.

Make: I WILL INVENTORY MY CUPBOARDS YES I WILL

Budgets: all set, nearly 3 weeks to payday and looking healthy so far

Exercise: walking going OK, need to make sure to get running time in

Rules: suppose I should (grumble grumble)

In emergencies: need to talk with DS1 about visibility aids for his walk to school - they wore the LED bands last year but not sure what he will put up with now he's an important secondary schooler :D

Now: I'm a terrible procrastinator, so will take on the idea of starting today not at some point :)

Everyone: DFD should be April next year, will try to bring it forward with little OPs just TTd a tenner from the budget this week - if I can do that every week I'll be on track to finish early.

Winter: need to haul out the loft ladder and get winter stuff out.

You: am cooking from scratch, I could do more baking this weekend.

Outside: sunny this afternoon so will chivvy the family outside (that reminds me, DS2 needs wellies)

Report: Here, Miss!

Kindness: being nice to DH who has cricked his back.

Finally reporting in.

NSDs I will aim for 20! none so far though.

ORGANISE I’ve just potentially taken on more teaching hours so this is even more important for me. I want to develop skills in writing and spanish too. Lots to do but factoring in downtime is also important. The weekends are going to be really precious.

VALUES Ultimate goals - pay off debt, build emergency and holiday funds, and a decent amount of savings. Improve my spanish and make enough money to go travelling/save for a house.

ENJOY yourself. I really need to do this in the right way. Not drinking loads and spending loads of money.

MAKE an inventory of the food in your cupboards, fridge and freezer at the start of the month. Generally we are quite good at meal planning and we don’t usually buy things that end up lurking and not eaten, having said that I will do this today just to double check.

BUDGETS should be set before the start of the month - I do this in the middle of the month as I get paid around the 17th. I had a nasty surprise this week in that I need a lot of expensive dental work. My original quote was €800, hoping to get a second quotation but will probably need to pay around €400. On the plus side I’ve had a cheap weekend after thinking it would be a pricey one!

EXERCISE I am going to walk home from work at least 3 times next week, and I’ll try to do a workout on friday.

RULES Need to think about this.

IN case of emergency I don’t drive anywhere but need some new boots to stop my feet getting wet, if that counts!!

Stock up with generic painkillers, cold and flu meds - just as effective as the expensive ones (MSE tested). Will do

NOW is always the right time to start. If you were successful in last month's healthy habit challenge, are you going to continue? Have you another new habit to add? If you fell didn't quite make it, start again now. If you start now you will still be 2 months ahead of those making resolutions in the new year.

I am going to give up drinking for November. I am 3 days in and have failed already but in the spirit of this challenge will not give up. I’ve lots to do this month and want to make it happen. I just need the headspace and need to remind myself of that.

NO takeaways, coffee shops, vending machines, canteens unless for a special event. Take your own food and drinks to work, hospital appointments and days out where possible. will do. OK!!!

EVERYONE should know their debt free date Mine is Christmas too. I can't wait for payday so I can actually pay some debt off and update my signature. My food/fun budget of €240 total for the month seems to be working so far, if I stick to this I can pay everything down by xmas. assuming my dental work doesn't exceed €500.n

WINTER proof your home, Done

OUTSIDE It may be cold but wrap up warm and make the most of the available light - it will help your immune system and your mental health.

REPORT regularly (daily is best) Will do!

KINDNESS costs nothing. Everyone you meet is carrying some sort of burden, so try to be kind, especially to yourself. Will do!

The weather here has been awful and Himself and I have been feeling under the weather for the last few days so stayed indoors again. It's nothing serious. Just feeling a bit "off colour" and "out of sorts". It's not doing my exercise plans any good at all and, to be honest, we don't really feel like eating much so I haven't got anywhere with checking the freezers and meal planning. I have been making soup with whatever we have in the fridge so I suppose that's something.

Hopefully things will pick up tomorrow and I can start clearing up the mess the house is in.

Till then it's the early bed and book again. Just as well I like reading.
Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.

NSDs -2/15 (days 1 & 2) but a spendy day today
ORGANISE your time. Did quite well with this today. I made two lists one for each of the shops I was going to and I was in and out faster that a fast thing on wheels 😊. Managed to leave DS2 and DH in the car on one of the shops so they were not distracting me or putting things in the basket!!!
VALUES Differentiate between needs and wants – definitely did this as I stuck to my lists and no wee extras were popped in the basket
ENJOY yourself. not much fun today as mainly chores but did this so it leaves tomorrow free for a family day
MAKE an inventory of the food in your cupboards, fridge and freezer at the start of the month. Plan your meals around what you have, make your shopping list up from the ingredients you need to go with them. -done. Made a list of meals to have this week and then worked out what I had in the cupboards and bought appropriately. Not done a full inventory yet but will do.
BUDGETS should be set before the start of the month - Food, travel, socialising, personal. I have written down everything I spent today so I have started tracking.
EXERCISE 4 times a week, 20 minutes a day. Yesterday’s active minutes was 95 minutes and I have hit my 60 already today so happy with that
RULES The more rules you can follow, the more you will save/ have for debt reduction. – fingers crossed

IN case of emergency Add any items you might need (torch, shovel for snow, old carpet for traction, extra coat or blanket) to your car boot. DH didn’t get round to this yesterday but will do it tomorrow he assures me !
Stock up with generic painkillers, cold and flu meds - just as effective as the expensive ones (MSE tested). to do
NOW is always the right time to start. Continuing with this and managed again last night not to start the wine after work. Had about ¾ of a glass last night with soda spread over 2 drinks and I didn’t even finish the second one.

NO takeaways, coffee shops, vending machines, canteens unless for a special event. We did have the buy one get one free on Subway today but this is a big treat for the boys as we normally don’t have them on a regular basis. No more now apart from either a Chinese or fish and chips half way through the month which we always do.
EVERYONE should know their debt free date. Not got a debt free date apart from Mortgage so will go for my savings date instead which will be 2021/2.
WINTER proof your home, if you haven't already done so. New thermally lined curtains have arrived. Ordered in October 😊 Just need to get poles so I know how much they have to be taken up by.

YOU should cook from scratch when you can. Menus all done and all home cooked meals planned.
OUTSIDE It may be cold but wrap up warm and make the most of the available light. Hoping to get out tomorrow for a long walk
REPORT regularly (daily is best) here (sorry forgot yesterday)
KINDNESS costs nothing. will do.

Really enjoying the challenge so far and it is keeping me very focussed.

I went out this morning and took the kids to ping pong, did the last few nigggly shop bits and got lunchbox tat. Under £20. Kids wanted ping pong t shirts they are selling, so agreed to pick them up and pay for them next week - grr, £14 I was not expecting.

Found a free event to go to - DH (arch saboteur that he is ) decided we were going to go out and try a new doughnut place he has wanted to visit, on the way, then, after we had been to the moon, he decided we were going to go out to lunch.- grrr.

Admittedly it cost me nothing. But the kids are starting to realise and to expect that every time they go out with DH they will get fed. So when I tell them to come out with me, they know they will get nothing, and I get mutiny.

But there is one more meal left in the store cupboard now.

I did not even want a stupid doughnut (£2/£3 each!!)

X_raphael_XX - I can always get raphael, of course, and michaelangelo and leonardo. But need help from mr google to get donatella.
DonatellO ;):p My tortoise is named Donna after Donatello, as she's a girl so I couldn't call her Raphael

I love the video where an interviewer is asking people on the streets to name 4 renaissance artists and they are stumped. Then he asks them to name the ninja turtles and they're like "Oh yeah!" and rattle them off :D

NSDs - 3/20.
ORGANISE your time. - Failed in this today. Ignored my first two alarms, as I usually do during the week, as they are more like gentle nudges before bf wakes me up with a cuppa.
Only issue this morning, is I start work at 7 instead of 8, and bf wasn't working today, so not up before me. He nudged me at 6:30 so I shot out of bed and managed to just get to work on time (the benefits of living across the road). Clocked in at 6:55, so no loss of wages!

VALUES Pay off mum.- Mums fund £450 / £1200.
ENJOY yourself. It was a nice quiet day in work (until just before the footy match, then everyone in the city wanted a taxi at the same time). Had fun and laughs with my colleagues before the madness.
MAKE an inventory of your food. Bf has re-stocked the cupboards.
BUDGETS on track.
EXERCISE 4 times a week. Rest day today. And planning one tomorrow.
RULES have been followed!
IN case of emergency
NOW is always the right time to start. Fish & veg for tea. Loving roasted sprouts right not.
NO takeaways etc. None injested.
EXTRA income. Couple of clicks on a survey site. Whopping 9p made today.
WINTER proof your home. Not too cold tonight. I am so glad we got the dog flap installed last year. Beforehand we had to keep the back door open. (my old dog used to kick at the door to let us know she wanted out. Duncan just goes and stands there in silence).
YOU should cook from scratch. Made homemade wedges for bfs tea. Chicken for him, fish for me.
OUTSIDE Apart from running across the road to & from work. Did not go out today!
REPORT Here I am.
KINDNESS costs nothing. Told my colleague about 'salt dough' as she was saying playdough was getting expensive. She was really excited and so happy that the ingredients only cost her £1.
