Hello everyone!!
Happy November! Hope you all had a nice Halloween and didn't eat too many sweets (I did :P)
So I've been ill the last month or so, went to the drs yesterday to be told I have a chest infection and the cough I've had for over a month could be asthmaso on antibiotics and a pump. They've already started to work though am feeling better already
and actually managed to get some sleep last night (not all night but more than I was getting). My son has also been ill I got a call from the nursery yesterday saying he had hand, foot and mouth! So today we have been on house arrest and not gone in. Been a duvet day with the heating on, in the night garden for my son (have been walking around singing "yes my name is iggle piggle, iggle piggle, niggle, iggle, piggle!") of all the kids TV I didn't want him to get into that was top of the list!! Anyway just been a chilled out day doing the min as possible. But because of that have bagged my first NSD today
woop!!
NSD - Aiming for 15 again this month today was 1/15
ORGANISE - I am trying to do this, I am planning on trying more toddler groups with my son as we get them free and taking some time for myself.
VALUES - Have given my credit cards to my parents so I can't spend on them. Need to stop living in my OD because "just one treat won't hurt" yeah that put my £80 in my OD this week meaning I'm short for next week
ENJOY - I'm off work for 2 weeks and my birthday next week and my sons at the end of the monthwill be planning on going to more baby groups again too as they are free for us.
MAKE AN INVENTORY - Going to try and use cupboard/freezer stash before buying more just buy the fresh bits I need each week.
BUDGETS - Set! Going to make a spending diary in a notebook too so I can keep on top.
EXERCISE - Will try but am taking this one easy at the moment just in case I do have asthma don't fancy getting an attack and have a bad back/neck atm.
RULES -I'm getting there.
ICE - I have breakdown with start rescue, have got some de-icer, torch, phone charger and first aid kit in my car just need to put a blanket and bottle of water in there just in case.
I have a cupboard full of paracetamol, calpol, cough medicine and things in case of colds.
NOW - Was not brilliant with being healthy last month but I am considering re-joining SW.
NO - It's my birthday so going out for a meal but will be planning on no unplanned takeaways and stuff. Will take food and drink out with me when going out for the day.
DEBT FREE - By next Xmas I plan to be debt free, no matter what I am paying £50 a week off my CC debt and my sofa is on 0% and finishes next year.
WINTER PROOF - Have lots of throws and use my tumble dryer as heating sometimes haha. I do have a 2 year old though so have the heating on more
COOK FROM SCRATCH - I do this most days but do have some just in case bits in, if I am in a rush.
OUTSIDE - Going to try and take my son for regular walks, even if it is just around the block, it gets us both out.
REPORT - Hello
KINDNESS - Will doI find being kind to myself hard, I suffer from depression and don't have a very positive image of myself but I will try!

Lady Kernow did you want the NSD challenge? If you do it's called 'Nifty November NSD Challenge' this month.
We are the Ninja Saving Turtles, we do count our NSDs/ Spend Free Days but we do a lot of other things besides, a sort of holistic mind and body approach.
You are welcome to join us if you want but I wouldn't want to deceive you if we are not what you want.My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage0 -
NSD will aim for 15.
ORGANISE your time. Will try and find a balance between studying, household chores, family time and me time.
VALUES. Ultimate goal is to continue to OP the mortgage but to keep in mind ethical, environmental and family values.
ENJOY yourself. Try and do something everyday that I enjoy.
MAKE an inventory of the food in your cupboards, fridge and freezer at the start of the month. Will aim to do this when i get back home. Meal plan and shop from the cupboards, freezers and allotments first before visiting supermarkets.
BUDGETS should be set before the start of the month. Already done will log spends on here and look at, at the end of the month. Will aim to buy something for the food bank every week.
EXERCISE will aim to walk for an hour everyday with the dog.
IN case of emergency Add any items you might need (torch, shovel for snow, old carpet for traction, extra coat or blanket) to your car boot. If you don't belong to a breakdown organisation, make sure you have phone numbers for friends or relatives who might come and help you.
Make sure you and your children can be seen if walking or cycling. Stock up with generic painkillers, cold and flu meds. Will do this when I get home
NOW is always the right time to start.will aim to have more faith in myself
NO takeaways, coffee shops, vending machines, canteens unless for a special event. Take your own food and drinks to work, hospital appointments and days out where possible. This is normally a given, but did take DD1 to a cafe today as a treat
EVERYONE should know their debt free date continuing to pay bank of mum (Nov 2019) and OP the mortgage (another 17 and half years)
WINTER proof your home, if you haven't already done so. Will look at when I get home but in the process of looking for additional curtains from the CS
YOU should cook from scratch when you can (unless time is short or it costs more to make) and batch cook. Will aim to do this at least 5 days out of 7
OUTSIDE It may be cold but wrap up warm and make the most of the available light - it will help your immune system and your mental health.see exercise
REPORTi'm here
KINDNESS costs nothing. Everyone you meet is carrying some sort of burden, so try to be kind, especially to yourself. will try

I use it on my face every so often too - hence evoo, as voo doesn't moisturise as much and leaves me with a face that I start to scratch off! And I also only wash my face with cold KITCHEN water from Oct - April, again to avoid making it itchy.
I make a body scrub like this too- have also used brown sugar and (when I had some) a lump of melted shea or cocoa butter added makes it less runny
The hand scrub (L'0ccitane one - I'd never pay that for such a small tub!) was a raffle prize, so I thought I'd use it on my thighs and elbows to use it up
My hands are rather scabby with eczema at the mo, so most things seem to be setting them off - am wearing gloves even when it's not that cold and I need to buy some rubber gloves for washing up, as that's not helping them
Even the prescribed doublebase and the steroid cream are making them sting where they are scabby (ouch)
My face is pretty easy going, thankfully - although my lips react to some chillies and go puffy and dry/ peely/ scabby for a few days sometimes (even D0rit0s can set them off) Not an attractive look! - I look like I've had fillers which have gone a bit wrong! :rotfl::rotfl:I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200 -
Far too tired to even attempt a post with goals for the month but want to try and get into the habit of posting daily. Today has been a spend day as I paid for a run entry, food shopping and a year's car insurance (the last unfortunately had to go on the credit card but will aim to pay back as soon as possible).Mortgage 26.4.25 - £108,500 1.8.25 - £106,362.86
Mortgage overpayment savings - £3.33/£50

.
:hello:Did you remember all their names?
So. Day 1!
NSDs - 1/20. I have spent today, but it was on protein powder (a large portion of my current diet), tomatos and butter. I don't class groceries as a spend, unless its naughty stuff.
ORGANISE your time. - Managed to squeeze in housework & cleaning out the pets before the gym today. I've made a deal with bf that he will cook when I'm on gym days, I will cook on non-gym days. This at least gives me an hour or so of time in the evening, rather than getting in from the gym and cooking.
VALUES Pay off mum.- Mums direct debit went out today, and I managed to put away another £50. £450 / £1200.
ENJOY yourself. Treated myself to a catch up of The Apprentice. Going to tuck myself in bed with a cuppa and my book for an early night.
MAKE an inventory of your food. Had to top up my tomato supply today, been missing my half a tomato on my eggs on toast in the mornings.
BUDGETS are set and very tight.
EXERCISE 4 times a week. Boxing class at the gym today. I have my weigh in and a 'blast' class tomorrow.
RULES have been followed!
IN case of emergency Have informed the bf we need to stock up on lemsips and lozenges.
NOW is always the right time to start. Boss brought in homemade mini sausage rolls today. They are delishous so I suspended my diet for a couple of them. I don't think 2 will hurt. Worked them of at the gym later.
NO takeaways etc. None injested. Although I did cast a longing glance at my favorite pizza takeaway on my walk home from gym.
EXTRA income. Sold a few of old Fitbit bands (I have a newer model). Only for £1 each, but £3 earnt and crud out the house.
WINTER proof your home. Not as chilly here today. Going to take hw bottle to bed with me thou.
YOU should cook from scratch. Dinner was chicken breast and roasted sprouts. Same again for lunch tomorrow, but with rice added.
OUTSIDE Walked to and from the gym.
REPORT Made it today!

Lots to keep us busy this month :j
Love the name of this month's challenge as I'm going to New York on the 8th December for a few days and need to save money for this.
NSDs - I'm going to try for 20 NSDs this month as I need to save some money for next month.
ORGANISE - I really need to do this this as I've got out of the habit of this after a hectic few months.
ENJOY - I enjoy knitting, cooking, sewing, walking and chatting to friends and am lucky that I usually do at least a couple of them every day.
MAKE - I will do an inventory of the freezer at the weekend.
BUDGETS - I withdrew my pocket money for the month today and am putting aside 20% of this to keep for next month.
EXERCISE - I should be ok with this one as I go walking or exercise most days.
NOW - I'm going to continue with the healthy eating I started last month.
NO - I will definitely fail this one. I never buy take away coffees or drinks when I'm out but do frequently meet friends for coffee or lunch. This is my leisure activity and my mood would definitely suffer if I did not meet my friends.
EVERYONE - I have no debt or mortgage but am using my savings to subsidise a small pension till I get my state pension in 3 years. My savings have taken a real hit this year with several holidays I have taken so I must now live frugally to ensure my long term budget works.
WINTERPROOF - I will check the medicine chest and car winter preps at the weekend.
YOU - I have already started spending more time in the kitchen and am enjoying trying new recipes. First time ever I've made pumpkin 🎃 pie today and it was delicious.
OUTSIDE - I go walking in an adjoining country park at least 3 times each week and can confirm it definitely helps my mood. I can leave the house feeling fed up and an hour later I'm back and rejuvenated.
REPORT - I will try and report daily - if I don't it's usually because I've been naughty
KINDNESS - This is so important, even just saying hello to people when out walking cheers both me and them.
After all that, goodnight xxDebt free - Mortgage free - Work free ( in that order)

Day one in the bag for most turtles. A warm welcome to all new and returning turtles, those who are keen to be her and those slinking in at the back. At the end of each day, tell yourself that you have done the best you could, in your circumstances.
I'm not going to respond to each individual post but I am grateful for the responses to different elements of the challenge, love both the common ground and the differences between us and we have some useful discussions emerging.
I am glad that so many of you recognise the importance of downtime, well done to ccl on embracing this part of the challenge (hope the divorce is soon finalised) and thriftylass I love your quiet morning time approach - did this come from the course you went on or is it your version? (Congrats on getting DH on board with the finances and excellent budget reductions).
greent thanks for the absolution on using frozen chopped onions. I know people said they wouldn't think I was lazy, it was me who would. I like the discussion on switching to more dried/ tinned pulses. I feel faintly guilty for using tinned pulses but it's mainly kidney beans (which were always all over the worktop after soaking even when I used two bowls and butterbeans (which always stayed hard) when I used the dried versions. I have noticed a lot of vegan recipes recently which I am eager to try - decided I needed to expand my repertoire when I was organising a surprise 80th birthday party for me mum and realised my 'party food' was still the same things I made for my wedding (31 years ago).
Love the list of relaxing activities - reading, candles, hot baths, fairy lights, crafting. I wanted to be firm about keeping on track this month - no slacking off - but also wanted to everyone to look after themselves, taking the danish hygge (hoo-gah) approach to winter. As bizzie says, the most important thing is to get back on track if you break a rule - confess all to your fellow turtles (put yourself on the naughty step if you want - perhaps I should bring back the naughty chaise longue and put a quilt and some cushions on it).
I'm vicariously enjoying your fun activities. Top leaf scruncher award goes to Maisie M. Hope trampolining was fun Chandelier, I love your committment to making memories with your son. F0xh0les aren't you worried that, if you ban shorts, the boys will become postmen when they grow up, out of sheer contrariness.
leimichellecat I am training myself to put important receipts away in my wallet rather than just dropping them into my bag. As I do all my mum's shopping, I often have to divi them up (as I can't seem to find time to do my own separate shop).
laurenh1 saying No is so hard but so necessary. To you, chocolatelover93 and any other poorlies, look after yourself , especially if little ones are also ill - whatever gets you through. Children's tv may be irritating at times but when mine were young we only had 30 minutes at lunchtime and then an hour of Sesame Street on BBC2. If we were too ill to do anything but slump on the sofa we had to watch the schools programmes.
I once left DS1 eating his lunch whilst I went back into the kitchen to get mine. Hurried back in when I realised that it was a sex education programme and asked him about it, in case he had seen or heard anything upsetting - 2yo calmly replied 'I'm learning what I have to do, to grow up' (changes in puberty).
Until tomorrow turtles. My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage0 -
It's been a 'small things' day for me. Old t-shirts cut into rags, clothes swapped round to dry on the radiator and airer, many many socks put to dry on the towel rail, went back to the couch and rooted out all the grot under, behind and at the sides, took the bin bag from my room and walked through accumulating small amounts of rubbish, ate from the freezer, put away all the pots washed so far and started again, ordered repeat prescription, charged phone, reallocated an empty craft box to be the 'Christmas' box (it's Dr Who special day in my house).
All bits but needed doing - so important to finish off and put away before those pesky sequins escape again. Found 2 more forks, several mugs and glasses and 4 more dirty socks.
Today I am grateful for a clean nightie and clean, dry clothes to wear tomorrow, for feeling much more on top of things and in control (will continue on saturday and Sunday and the changes should be obvious) and the old detective series I am watching on the laptop. My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage0
