I maybe start looking into buying more tins (pulses) or dried goods rather than fresh fruit and veg as that's my limiting factor although I try to buy more frozen nowadays as a backup.

I see another challenge coming up for me to try and stretch a weekly shop to two weeks by tweaking what we buy based on storability once I got the hang of the new reduced weekly grocery budget. :)

Ah yes we live off chickpeas, kidney beans etc... (I recommend the international aisles/brands as they tend to be cheaper and much much tastier than mid range own brand) I like to get mugshots or soup for warm work lunches, trying to get more into making extra and taking leftovers aswell as it is more nutritious I think.
I feel like mealwise we have been a bit in a rut so want to try and branch out a bit more. Instead of using curry sauces we often use soy milk (though dairy would obviously also work great) and a spoon of curry paste as it is cheaper and lasts longer.

We usually just use a tin of tomatoes and home made curry powder and spices from the halal shop for that. Cheap too :money:

    NST NOVEMBER IN NEW YORK

    THE RULES

NSDs Going for 15 this month (I recall many of NSK's November challenges having NSDs in the 20s!)

ORGANISE your time. Simplify where possible. This really resonates with me.

VALUES In a bit of limbo as we could pay off the mortgage but want to save. I've had paying down the mortgage as my goal for 5 years, so changing tack is tricky for my little brain...

ENJOY yourself. Have fun. Kick about in the leaves, splash in puddles. Smile, be the rainbow in someone's cloud. Dh sent me a link about Forest bathing. Will be trying to get out and about on foot more. Mybe even go for a little jog every so often...

MAKE an inventory . A work in progress as I'm coeliac, dd is coeliac and allergic to milk, and dh eats any and everything (except cherries!) So we have a lot of different foods in. I'd like to simplify my own eating at the very least.

BUDGETS Birthdays etc noted and planned. We are having trouble sourcing some of dd's foods at the mo, so are grabbing certain products as and when we see them!

EXERCISE 4 times a week, 20 minutes a day. Must return to this. Have physio for my gammy shoulder starting next week. But my legs still function perfectly well - want to get out and about more!

RULES Think of them as a tool box. Love this concept. I work best with fixed boundaries.

IN case of emergency Will do. Visibility + meds sorted.

NOW is always the right time to start. Want, nay need, to restart Primal living. And actually see it through more than recently. Will help with joints, aches and pains, mood, energy levels, weight loss.

    NO absolutely

EVERYONE + EXTRA income One fair to try to sell stuff at this month. Dd also wants a small table too as she plans to make her fortune selling Sylvan1an clothes :D.

WINTER proof your home, if you haven't already done so. Fleeces were attached to curtain a few weeks ago, as well as the door and hallway fleece curtains. Blankets under sheets in place, throws on sofas.

YOU should cook from scratch when you can. Have realised that this is now the norm for us! Smug face is on.

OUTSIDE I'll be there in all weathers. Promise!

    REPORT regularly (daily is best)

KINDNESS costs nothing. Everyone you meet is carrying some sort of burden, so try to be kind, especially to yourself. A good value to practice. :D

The challenge runs from 00.01 on 1st November until midnight on November 30th.

So, the challenge is on. Got my big girl pants on and an NSD in the bag to start with.

Was a spend day today. Did a medium sized food shop. Also got some toiletries, supplements, tv mag, oyster card top up, charity donation and the mental health support organisation's buddy box for December. Really have to monitor spending for the rest of the month. What was spent today has been put into my notebook.
Had to buy a new mobile phone as had issues with my old mobile. Used the money given to me to get. Also got a cover for the mobile.
Going to have a chilled out evening.

Today I am grateful for mum being more mellow, for a supremely quick journey home (just over 3 hrs - it can take up to 4 and a half...), for the last train coming after 5 mins wait and it wasn't even on the board, for dh coming to meet me off the bus, for embracing the rain (well, I had no choice, no other way to get between the 2 stations, but I strode out anyway!), for getting more prep done, for all my santas having their pompoms (but no lycra - yikes, there's a thought ), for putting on the fairy lights (still in place from last winter - oops), for dd loving some old Dandy comics we bought.

NSDs Would have been NSD (milk/ YS item/ medical) but bought some Xmas items (on offer) So... 0 (will also monitor days which would have been NSD except for Xmas shopping - want to take advantage of any offers/ discounts/ places where I happen to be as and when - so 1 Xmas Shop Day (XSD))

ORGANISE your time. Appointments are on calendar. Had blood donation appt today but failed on iron levels :(:(

VALUES If I get to 8K OPs on BTL I am starting my Florida fund early.

    ENJOY yourself.

MAKE an inventory of the food in your cupboards, fridge and freezer . Yep - used leftover cold (plain) spaghetti with squishy tomatoes and some mushrooms up for lunch.

BUDGETS Spends: Groceries 2.68, Medical 6.50, Xmas 73.30

EXERCISE 4 times a week, 20 minutes a day. - 'hard' exercise was written off for today because of blood donation appt so spent time in garden breaking up old pruned branches and running around house putting things away and vacuuming at a pace etc. Planned walk was changed because of rain.

    RULES

IN case of emergency I need to put details of my breakdown cover in car! (changed provider) Car was serviced in Sept, so hopefully ok. De-icer is stocked up and am hoping 02 moments have another (usual) freebie of more deicer coming up - 4 of us on 02 so will get more if they do! :D Have a blanket and wind up torch in car boot (and warning triangle) but could put another blanket in.
    Have good supply of meds.

NOW is always the right time to start. Logged back into MFP for first time in aaaaages and logged all food/ drink.

NO takeaways etc - None today

EVERYONE should know their debt free date. Only debt is BTL mtge which we are reducing. Extra monies go to this at mo.

WINTER proof your home,- need to book a heating chap to re-hang kitchen radiator and also a boiler service. OH needs to rehang rear lounge curtains (over large patio doors - major heat loss) - but having problems getting fixings to stay in stupid hollow walls

YOU Yep for today, inc baking a loaf of seedy wholemeal :) Yum

OUTSIDE Time spent in garden with previous prunings. Didn't go for a walk or vacuum up leaves due to rain.

    REPORT regularly - here :)

KINDNESS costs nothing. Today's kindness is all to me - to not beat myself up over 'failing' to give blood (required level is 125 min, mine was 117 - not anaemic, but not that high) - instead I have got some iron supplements (I don't eat much red meat and whilst I eat lots of leafy green veg and have water with 2/3 meals I often have low-ish levels without supplements) to take. I have also been kind to myself in logging all my foods (seriously need to shift some blubber), having a positive mental attitude and taking care of my appearance for once (I used a body scrub in shower (well, a hand scrub, but no way am I using that on my eczema-y hands!), body lotion after, used my prescribed creams on legs and hands, straightened my hair and put mascara on (have short, fine lashes) - and also brow mascara, as since I turned 40 my eyebrows have become almost translucent :( (I very occasionally get them tidied and dyed) I am worth it and want to be healthier! :D
I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soul
    Repaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NIL
    Net sales 2024: £20

Greent - I make a body scrub out of sea salt and evoo. I use it on my face every so often too - hence evoo, as voo doesn't moisturise as much and leaves me with a face that I start to scratch off! And I also only wash my face with cold KITCHEN water from Oct - April, again to avoid making it itchy.

NSDs #1 claimed today. Making a list to take advantage of offers on a spend day.

ORGANISE my time. Need to confirm my shifts at work so I can book some appointments.

VALUES Differentiate between needs and wants. Have been thinking over some ideas.

ENJOY myself. Music on, some favourite food for tea and feet up later so the cat will have somewhere to sit.

MAKE an inventory of the food in cupboards, fridge and freezer at the start of the month and plan meals around what there is. Still to do.

BUDGETS have been set for the month - will keep an eye on as not everything goes out on the 1st.

    EXERCISE I will be active.

RULES Turtle rules can be difficult at first. What I must do is just because I may have broken one early on I shouldn't write off the rest of the month. Treat each day as a brand new start.

IN case of emergency tidied up First Aid Kit and placed where everyone can find it.

NOW is always the right time to start. Not today shared a bar of chocolate with DC.

NO takeaways, coffee shops, vending machines, canteens unless for a special event. Take my own food and drinks where possible. None needed today.

EVERYONE should know their debt free date. On target to be paid by the end of the year.
EXTRA income will come from cashback and surveys. None today.

WINTER proof my home need to decide how to fix temporary curtains at kitchen door/window.

YOU should cook from scratch when you can. Tea was made from leftovers.

OUTSIDE Avoided the rain whilst out for a walk.

    REPORT regularly - day 1 - here.

    KINDNESS helped a neighbour.

    Hi lovelies

Sorry I was AWOL for the last few days. Nasty cold, sinus infection & on my own with 2 littlies meant I just didn't have the time or the inclination to do anything. Starting to feel a little more humam today.

NSD #1 :jDid buy some sinus spray but nothing else.

Organise your time- this month I'm hoping to do less. Take more time for me- :) every day I will aim to take a long bath/ read a chapter of my book/do some knitting/do nothing....

Values- not to live beyond my means, I know I need to pay our car off & i have another 10k to save for the house. This is most important, not keeping up with the Jones!!

Enjoy yourself- printed off some craft avtivities for me & the kids which I might do tomorrow. We've all been a bit grumpy today.

Make an inventory- food plan done today.

Budgets- set. Til May :rotfl:I have planned everything to the penny to try & get the car paid off, I have booked Butlins "just for tots" break in May for me & the boys, likely the only thing I will be able to do with them next year. Managed to use a voucher code & get military discount got it from £390 with the voucher code to £350 :j.£180 left this month ,£160 for fuel, £10,500 House savings :D

    Exercise- must do better.
    Rules- will do :o
In case of an emergency-- must buy cold & flu stuff & de icer.
Now- yes ma'am :D On it.
No take aways- nope can't afford.
Everyone- Dec 19 I'd like my car paid off and 17k in savings. Im not worried about savings but the car might be pushing it. I need to over pay by £408 every month (on top of my 220 standard) . I have already over paid by 2700 this year though..

Winter proof- hot water bottles at the ready.
You- made some butternut squash soup today , yum :p
Outside-- going to go on search of acorns tomorrow with the littlies
    Report-- here
Kindness- will try & do someting every day.

This month Im practicing saying 'No'. Not a strong point for me & have some friends who are taking advantage. borrowing our car 3 or 4 timee a week & not filling it up , asking me to baby sit mulriple times a week often 6.30 am  Not sending nappies etc for their little one, not paying us back. Long chat to hub & realised it cannot go on. Wish me luck!!

ORGANISE your time. Many of you are very busy (especially teacher turtles) but to safeguard your health, both mental and physical, you need downtime. Simplify where possible. – really need to do this as I am very time poor between working and the family so will have to see what I can do.

VALUES Differentiate between needs and wants – we would like to go to Disneyland Florida in three years time so this is our savings goal

ENJOY yourself. I love this time of year and love nothing better than scrunching in a big pile of leaves (did it last weekend in Princess St Gardens when hubby and I were there on a child free weekend – so much fun 😊)

MAKE an inventory of the food in your cupboards, fridge and freezer at the start of the month. Plan your meals around what you have, make your shopping list up from the ingredients you need to go with them. – Will get on to this this weekend as apart from using stock up I want to make sure I have essentials in stock so we have stuff should the snow come and snow us in again like it frequently does.

BUDGETS should be set before the start of the month - Food, travel, socialising, personal. I have set budgets but I am not very good at sticking to them so this month this is my starting point. Stick to budgets.

EXERCISE 4 times a week, 20 minutes a day. Try to have at least 60 active minutes a day so will be sticking to this.

RULES The more rules you can follow, the more you will save/ have for debt reduction. – fingers crossed

IN case of emergency Add any items you might need (torch, shovel for snow, old carpet for traction, extra coat or blanket) to your car boot. Dh is planning to get this done tomorrow for both cars. He has done this every year for years down to us both having holdalls in the boot with emergency snacks, sleeping bags, water, torches, battery chargers for phones, hats, gloves for the 4 of us, extra socks. Never needed them but its there incase. Both cars have just had their tyres done and my brakes have also just been done. DH sorted out all the antifreeze last weekend.
Stock up with generic painkillers, cold and flu meds - just as effective as the expensive ones (MSE tested). will check what we already have in and stock up on stuff we need

NOW is always the right time to start. I will be cutting down on alcohol. I had already decided to do this after my birthday last week and to do this until xmas. I only had one glass of wine last weekend which is amazing for me.

NO takeaways, coffee shops, vending machines, canteens unless for a special event. we only have one take away a month which I will keep to as it’s a treat for the kids, but we are bad for popping in for coffee and cake when out so will stop that.

EVERYONE should know their debt free date. Not got a debt free date apart from Mortgage so will go for my savings date instead which will be 2021/2.

WINTER proof your home, if you haven't already done so. Boiler has already been serviced. Have also bought new thermally lined curtains for the livingroom and dining room. Just need to get the poles now and get them up.

YOU should cook from scratch when you can. Yep 9 times out of 10 and we batch cook so on nights when we are tight for time we just have to sort carbs/veg to go with the meat.

OUTSIDE It may be cold but wrap up warm and make the most of the available light. walk to and from school each day and try to get out for walks most weekends so will keep this going as far as possible

REPORT regularly (daily is best) here

    KINDNESS costs nothing. will do.
