Thank you for the new thread Mothernerd!
I can't wait to start. I too shall up my game :-)
I'm going to go for 20 NSD and a sober month.Student loan £5655
House deposit €32,667K/€40k0 -
Hi Mothernerd and all the turtles,
I’m a newbie who would like to join you for this month’s challenge please. I’ll go for 15 NSDs as I’m new to counting them. I really want to get properly back in the black rather than carrying a credit card balance each month. Plus I have a real habit of overspending in November each year so need support and focus. I’ve been reading along for some time and want to dive in now.
Thanks!
WBF0 -
Right here's my goals for the month:
ORGANISE - I leave my job on Friday and have two weeks off, so don't need to be too on top of the organising during that time. Just going to make the most of it, see friends and family and get some studying done.
VALUES - at the moment I'm not setting any long term goals as I'm debt free and still have a long road ahead on the mortgage. I do want to get £1,000 in my savings (on top of my EF) and get all the housey jobs done next year.
ENJOY - I think I've got that covered on my weeks off.
MAKE AN INVENTORY - I managed to almost clear my freezer last month so now time to focus on the cupboards.
BUDGETS - need to be extra careful this month as not sure if I'll get paid by my new employer until Xmas.
EXERCISE - will make the most of my gym membership especially while I'm off work.
RULES - fine.
ICE - ditto.
NOW - not sure about this one, will have to have a think.
NO - not going to lie I'll probably break this while I'm off work, especially when visiting family.
WINTER PROOF - def need to sort this, and put the timer on for the heating.
COOK FROM SCRATCH - I generally do unless I know I have a busy day. My slow cooker is my best friend!
OUTSIDE - will be doing this when I go riding each week and will try to go for a few more walks.
REPORT - will do.
KINDNESS - ditto.0 -
Another one, ready to take up The NST November in New York Challenge,Chandelier.
Current Debt Repaid:

NST November in New York Challenge.
NSDs: I will aim for 15 this month with the aim to achieve higher. All budgets are set aside for the month ahead, any spends outside these areas will be classed as a spend day.
ORGANISE: I will carry on writing my to do lists, keeping track of appointments and using my downtime wisely. I also need to continue the bedroom declutter and throw out what is not needed. Overall I want to simplify my life as much as possible.
VALUES: I am mindful of my current needs/wants, there is a purpose or reason for everything on that list although I am not desperate for some of them. I need to re-evaluate my goals and set some new ones which are realistic and achievable and gives me something to work towards.
ENJOY: Our time is limited at weekends due to other current commitments. I will try to factor fun things in as much as possible to maximise our time and will take time to myself and find my reasons to smile again.
INVENTORY: I will look at what we already have in the cupboards/freezers and run them down ready for Christmas. I will try and be creative meal plan wise.
BUDGETS: My budget is all set out for the month and my bank accounts are currently up to date. I am looking to open another 5% savers account and will save into that for the next twelve months. I am trying to cut back where possible whilst also balancing other life factors. I will write down and track every spend as much as possible.
EXERCISE: I will make the effort of going back to the gym and will try to walk to places rather then taking the car for short journeys.
EMERGENCY: I will compile some emergency supplies for the car, ready for the cold months ahead. I found myself using my ID card as a deicer the other day :rotfl:. I will also find out details of my breakdown cover.
HABITS: I will aim to stop one which will save me money and cut back in a couple of other areas.
NO ITEMS: I will aim to take food/drinks with me where possible. I will stock up on some items when they are on offer rather than me using a vending machine/buying from shops etc. It is all about planning ahead.
SAVE:: I am currently debt free but will pay savings to myself at the beginning of each month. Any extra along the way is a bonus. I have an upcoming dental appointment which may be pricey, but I shall use savings to fund this. I should be able to live on what is left over, if I am careful.
WINTERPROOF: The heating is off during the day. Extra layers shall be put on and blankets used. I need to look at switching energy suppliers for my mum.
COOK: I will aim to use up and batch cook what we can from scratch and freeze any leftovers . However sometimes due to our commitments it will be a quick "grab the food from the freezer" tea (fish fingers, nuggets etc).
OUTSIDE: I have enough coats and accessories to wrap up warm. I will try to get out the house as much as possible and maybe plan a few autumn walks,
REPORT: I will aim to report daily to keep myself accountable, unless other things come up and I am unable to do so.
KINDNESS: Yes, it does cost nothing. I shall bear this in mind for the next month an help others out where possible. I also need to be kind to myself.Chandelier.

Right Turtles - I'm raring to go for November and desperately trying to remain positive.
NSDs No spend days. You will aim for 15 (easy) or 20 (hard).
I am going to aim for 15 - hopefully will get more but I don't want to set goals that may be too tough for me.
ORGANISE your time. Many of you are very busy (especially teacher turtles) but to safeguard your health, both mental and physical, you need downtime.
This is something I am trying to sort out as not only am I a teacher turtle but I have the added home stresses as well so I'm in desperate need of my down time.
VALUES Differentiate between needs and wants.
My need and want is the same - to get my mortgage finalised and ex off the deeds.
ENJOY yourself. Have fun.
This will come along with my down time. Things that make me happy include spending time with my kids and cats, and snuggling in front of a film or box set.
MAKE an inventory of the food in your cupboards, fridge and freezer at the start of the month.
Just done this for the fridge and freezer as I've replaced it in the past week. Cupboards I will do over the weekend.
BUDGETS should be set before the start of the month.
Budgeted to within an inch of my life - and I need the extra income this month just to make ends meet.
EXERCISE 4 times a week, 20 minutes a day.
Just walking - I can't/won't commit to anything other than that. It just stresses me even more.
RULES Turtle rules can be difficult at first.
IN case of emergency Add any items you might need (torch, shovel for snow, old carpet for traction, extra coat or blanket) to your car boot.
I always have blankets, food, screenwash in the boot.
Stock up with generic painkillers, cold and flu meds - just as effective as the expensive ones (MSE tested). Done
NOW is always the right time to start. If you were successful in last month's healthy habit challenge, are you going to continue?
Going to continue with calorie counting and reduced alcohol intake. Also getting into bed by 10pm even at weekends.
NO takeaways, coffee shops, vending machines, canteens unless for a special event.
No choice this month :rotfl:
EVERYONE should know their debt free date.
Can't do this until divorce stuff is sorted but I'm keeping an eye on this
EXTRA income ideas are always welcome
I'm going to stick with my tutoring.
WINTER proof your home, if you haven't already done so.
Love snuggling down in winter
YOU should cook from scratch when you can
Going back through my Jack Monroe books for inspiration
OUTSIDE It may be cold but wrap up warm and make the most of the available light - it will help your immune system and your mental health.
REPORT regularly (daily is best)
KINDNESS costs nothing. Everyone you meet is carrying some sort of burden, so try to be kind, especially to yourself.
The turtles are fantastic at this. Thank you.Not giving up
Working hard to pay off my debt
Time to take back control

NST NOVEMBER IN NEW YORK
NSDs - 0/20. I'm going to aim for 20 NSDs, but I'm also aiming to get my xmas lists sorted this month. I'm hoping to make a lot of my presents to keep the costs down, but we shall see.
ORGANISE your time. I'm doing a lot of gym work at the moment. But I also need to squeeze in my saxophone practice. I failed my exam and I want to work hard and pass it in the new year.
I'm running a marathon in April and training starts on the 10th!
VALUES I want to finish paying off mum this month. I have £1200 left to go, and £400 already saved.
ENJOY yourself. It's my besties birthday in Nov, and I think were off for another go at VR.
MAKE an inventory of your food. I'm currently in the midst of a 6 week gym challenge. Meals have been simplified to Protein, Carbs & Veg for breakfast and lunch, and Protein & Veg for tea. So our fridge and cupboards are very basic at the moment.
BUDGETS are set and very tight. If I want to pay mum off this month I need to keep an eye on every penny.
EXERCISE 4 times a week. I have 3 weeks left of my Gym challenge, the stipulation of which is I must visit the gym 3 times a week. I also have my regular boxing class, and my marathon training starts in a couple of weeks.
RULES will be followed!
IN case of emergency I've recently bought myself a scooter, so I don't have to fight with bf for the car when I need to get to boxing. I could probably do with hunting out some hi-vis now the evenings are darkening.
Need to stock up on lemsips and lozenges ready for the inevitable bout of colds and flu that get spread around the office.
NOW is always the right time to start. The goal of the 6 weeks Gym challenge I'm currently halfway through is to either lose 20lbs or 5% body fat. So far I have lost just 4lbs, but my body fat has reduced by 5.6%! This month I need to keep it up and not slip back.
NO takeaways etc. I might organise a coffee catch up with a friend, but apart from that I should be good.
EXTRA income. I might have a nosey around the house to see what tot I can palm off to someone else for some pennies. Possibly pick up an extra shift at work.
WINTER proof your home. Hot water bottle has already been brought out of storage. I even bought another one to keep at work. I already have a blanket stashed at work for the really chilly days. Heating has been on a couple of times, mainly to help dry off the washing on the radiators.
YOU should cook from scratch. We always like to cook from scratch, and the current diet I'm on makes it really simple. Chicken breast in the oven, rice & veg. Lunch is prepared the day before.
OUTSIDE Bf reminded me MIL had bought me new gloves last year. I recalled throwing out the old holey ones, but forgot about the new ones. Very happy.
REPORT I will try and post most days.
KINDNESS costs nothing.Debt Free as of 17/01/2009 Turtle Power!!

NSDs Aiming for 15 as I tend to take advantage of the offers being bandied around by retailers at this time of year.
ORGANISE my time. Trying to diary in stuff I want to do rather than just the need to do bits.
VALUES Differentiate between needs and wants. I feel I do this already but will revisit/think about some goals for going forward.
ENJOY myself. Trying to make this a priority this month.
MAKE an inventory of the food in cupboards, fridge and freezer at the start of the month and plan meals around what there is. Seriously need to focus on this as a continuing work in progress.
BUDGETS have been set for the month - I keep an accurate record of my spending and check that expenditure is on schedule for the year.
Make provision for a donation (money or goods) to your local food bank/ other charity of your choice. Will revisit this.
EXERCISE I will be active.
RULES Turtle rules can be difficult at first. What I must do is just because I may have broken one early on I shouldn't write off the rest of the month. Treat each day as a brand new start.
IN case of emergency to check all items that might be needed are fit for purpose/working - breakdown membership (been so worthwhile over the years) up to date.
Stocked up with painkillers, cold and flu meds.
NOW is always the right time to start. Now it is to start putting into place good habits.
NO takeaways, coffee shops, vending machines, canteens unless for a special event. Take my own food and drinks where possible.
EVERYONE should know their debt free date. I always pay to debt and savings first then live off what is left.
EXTRA income will come from cashback and surveys.
WINTER proof my home already have winter quilts/blankets/door curtains. Need to improve curtains and draught excluders.
Baked potatoes, hm soup, and hot drinks already well used.
YOU should cook from scratch when you can.I do for main meals usually making enough for leftovers.
OUTSIDE Aiming to go everyday if only for a short walk.
REPORT regularly - will do my best(daily is best)
KINDNESS costs nothing and is something I try to use daily with others.Groceries: Personal Spend: 0 NST NSD Goals for 2025:Self: Health: Wealth :0 -
Hi everyone,
Happy Halloween and all that. No neighbours kids came knocking - probably because I didn't get a pumpkin. Plus side that DD will take the goodies into school tomorrow for Pride group.
Looking forward to the new challenge - thank you mothernerd x
THE RULES
NSDs - aiming for 15 as likely to be buying stuff for Christmas.
ORGANISE your time. Getting better at this as I try to write a list each day of what I need to do when I get home. Also trying to plan weekends better so they don't skip away into just housework, shopping and ironing!
VALUES Already have this mentality but will be wanting to plan for our holiday next year. A lot depends on in laws who are planning to downsize so we may be getting a cash injection. Not going to rely on this though.
ENJOY yourself. Love this. Definitely looking forward to getting out and about more.
MAKE an inventory of the food in your cupboards, fridge and freezer at the start of the month. Do this on a weekly basis as tend to shop based on what we have in and meal plan accordingly. SMs will no doubt have offers on joints of meat soon, so will get some for the freezer. Always struggle in the week after Christmas to know what to cook. Will be better planned this year.
BUDGETS should be set before the start of the month - Food, travel, socialising, personal. all done. Nieces birthday next week which is the last one of the year. Will mark late nephews birthday with a flower donation for church at the beginning of December.
EXERCISE 4 times a week, 20 minutes a day. Must start running again!
RULES Turtle rules can be difficult at first. Need to think about this one.
IN case of emergency - will check stocks of de-icer, scrapers etc at the weekend. DS1 drives to work so will make sure he is stocked up. Will also sort out first aid box and stock up on cold relief stuff. Bought ibuprofen today.
NOW is always the right time to start. i don't smoke and rarely drink but new job is based in the health service so is making me more conscious of everything. Plus alcohol is not diet friendly so am trying to abstain as much as possible.
NO takeaways, coffee shops, vending machines, canteens unless for a special event. Already doing this.
EVERYONE should know their debt free date (work out what you owe, how much you can pay each month and work our when it will be paid). Small credit card 0% debt will be gone by Christmas if not before.
WINTER proof your home, if you haven't already done so. Curtains being drawn once it gets dark. Will be stocking up on soups and frozen jacket spuds.
YOU should cook from scratch when you can (unless time is short or it costs more to make) and batch cook. It is as easy to make a big pan of something as a little pan. Don't buy it if you can make it. Already doing this.
OUTSIDE It may be cold but wrap up warm and make the most of the available light - it will help your immune system and your mental health. Love this.
REPORT regularly (daily is best) - I'm here coooeeee!
KINDNESS costs nothing. Everyone you meet is carrying some sort of burden, so try to be kind, especially to yourself. Love this too.
Good luck to all turtles for November.
