  • Just a quick hello
I've done a very long day today - out of the house from 730am until 8pm. This means a nsd.
I'm shattered though - falling behind at work, busy and not sleeping well due to lack of distraction during the night.
CLF I think that's a really big ask to do a long distance drive. It would sit on my list of annoying and nightmarish jobs.

    Hi folks,

I want to run an idea past you. Our house helpfully has lovely air bricks built into the walls in several places. Great for letting in nice cold draughts.

Now I can't fill them (not our house) and I suspect that the ventilation may be a good thing?

Do you think it's worth me making some fabric covers for them? I thought if I made them elasticated like a shower cap, they might sit over the vent covers and lessen the draught. (might also stop spiders?)

    Any other ideas?

  • Morning frugal pals :hello:

I can feel a busy day coming on, at least no work to get in the way :rotfl:

One load of washing on, dry inside
Go to nearest big town, take 2 items back, one for a refund, one for an exchange
Will use my free hot drink and cake voucher :o
Test out something whilst I'm there and then look for best price online
Call to L1dl on way back as it's en route, only have small list. Mainly going for a nose.
Use mince I got out of freezer last night for tea. We didn't eat it as we were full from lunch
Check my emails for confirmation of a cheaper BB contract I signed up to last night for some savings
1st mortgage overpayment went out today :T
    Check banking and update sheet
Use my shampoo bar for the first time, hope it works as it'll save loads of £ and plastic if it does

    Have a good day folks.
  • I can't seem to get the multiquote thingy to work at all - any tips?

    In the meantime:

CLF - I would say give it a go! Our house has airvents which someone in the past (possibly even the management company) has taped over with gaffer tape  In some places they've gone a step further and painted over said gaffer tape... No damp as yet but goodness only knows how.

CLF & DNMS :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: yup you are not alone here. I bought a magnetic whiteboard to stick to the fridge door, with days of the week and a shopping list section so I put the meal plan on that. Even so DH almost never remembers to get things out of the freezer. He has got the hang of adding things to the shopping list bit... only needs reminding approx. once per week :D But as you say DNMS, there is a lot he's better at than me and I'm just more [STRIKE]fussy[/STRIKE] interested in food.

Purps - congratulations on the first mortgage overpayment! :T

    DFW activities:
    - decided to have a bash at all 3 exams before they go up in price AGAIN. That will keep me out of trouble for the next two months!
    - downgrade my gym membership to 3 classes/week. Honestly of the 5 classes/week + open gym I'm paying for I manage to go to 3/week on average, 5 classes just wipes me out completely and and with studying to do I really need to stay awake in the evenings. Saves £10/month and much guilt :D
    - leftovers lunch and supper is miscellaneous pasta (a perennial favourite)
    - baking porrigees (flapjacks to the rest of the world) tonight to take to my poorly mama this weekend. I've got lemons to use up so will make a lemon drizzle for DH too.

Hope everyone has a good day :)
  • Merida - I'm intrigued - 5 classes plus open gym... crossfit gym perchance?

1st mortgage overpayment went out today :T
Congratulations PF :T This will get addictive, you will find :D
Use my shampoo bar for the first time, hope it works as it'll save loads of £ and plastic if it does

I bought one the other day, still haven't tried it though. Hope it works!

Been to next town today to visit the market. browse charity shops etc. Bought onions, bread and potatoes at the market (the glamour!) and a couple of books in the CS.
Now waiting in for a FB buyer to pick up an item. Fairly certain she will turn up! In the meantime I have listed a pair of shoes and a cardigan I never wear (pricey brands, shoes bought s/h on ebay but are sadly a bit too big, cardi bought new for a wedding and not worn since :o). No sense them cluttering up the wardrobe. I like both items, but the shoes hurt because they slip about too much and the cardi just isn't 'me'. Someone with a different lifestyle / bigger feet will love them! :rotfl:FB buyer turned up, both ebay items have watchers already. Listed a couple more things on ebay, and listed and sold immediately a pair of huge and truly hideous Victorian (or thereabouts) vases that I listed on FB marketplace :rotfl:
Packed an item sold on ebay :)
    Still need to:
Check banks / update spending diary / spreadsheet In progress!
Little bit of business paperwork Done
Think what to do for dinner, from a couple of options - meal plan fail :o but will use what I already have, so no extra cost. Done, made a salad of tomatoes, finely chopped onion, cannelini beans, warm chorizo slices and lemon juice. Had this with nice bread from the market :D This used some of our tomato mountain.
Pick the raspberries and anything else that is ready in the garden Not done - it poured with rain
Figure out how to get the quinces I cooked down yesterday into the freezer  One day they will be empty and I will be able to defrost them :o I have been saying this for ever :o:o In progress
Do a load of washing as the machine seems to be full of yucky baby bibs  Not done, must do first thing in the morning!
Cleaned up another problematic (large and ugly) Victorian item to list on FB :) I (or rather my business) have had some of this stuff, hidden at the bottoms of auction boxes, for years, and been unable to sell it. It is too fragile and bulky for ebay, hasn't sold at various fairs or in my sales unit, so hoping FB is the way forward. I am advertising them as 'statement pieces' - they certainly make a statement, but I am not sure what it is :rotfl:

'Planted' my prepared hyacinth bulbs. This involved washing the pretty vintage glass hyacinth vases that were a bit dusty because I had them on the windowsill, filling with water and placing a bulb at the top of each one. Now in a dark cupboard till they produce nice shoots :)

Took seedlings out of the top of my mini greenhouse, as I can't leave the top open in the high winds we are getting. They will fry under glass in the heat of the sun with no ventilation (it gets hot between spells of wind and rain) so I reckon they are safer outside.

Hope everyone is having a good day :)
