https://www.bbc.com/food/recipes/welshcakes_67264 This is the one I use Baileysbabe,

It says "You now need a bakestone or a heavy iron griddle." I just do mine in my normal frying pan :D

:AThank you for the link 1LL, If I have time I would like to make a batch to treat us with this evening.

Here are some variations I came upon in my search:
Dark chocolate and orange - Lemon - Cinnamon - Milk chocolate - White chocolate and vanilla - Dark chocolate and lime - Lemon and almond - Dark chocolate and ginger - Pineapple - Toffee pecan - Cherry and coconut - Double chocolate - Apricot and cinnamon - Lemon and poppyseed - Blueberry - Pistachio and lemon - Coconut and lime - Hazelnut - Cherry and almond - White chocolate and lemon - Milk chocolate and hazelnut - Blueberry and vanilla - Cranberry - Milk chocolate raisin - Blueberry and white chocolate - dried Cranberries and white chocolate

    Have fun experimenting, everyone.

    Operation "room of fun" update:
We have made huge progress, I can't believe how much. We still have a long way to go until we are finished, hoping for next weekend.
This morning one area we dealt with was relocating the desktop computer (in ds' eyes his base), this is now in the spare room. We have changed desks for one that fits the space better, the "new desk" has been stored in the loft for a couple of years so no cost :j and the old desk is going into the loft for when we next have a change around.

Today dd is at an activity day for one of her groups, which worked out well as she would have wanted to be involved but we didn't have much she could do. Earlier ds helped OH & myself with the clearing, cleaning and reorganising after lunch OH & ds went of for martial arts training, leaving me with a couple of hours to myself. Whilst sorting out we have gathered together things that belong elsewhere, I plan on dealing with this before collecting dd as well as some general chores. I am doing 40 minutes work, 20 minutes break and keeping hydrated.

    Today's list:
Continue with project "room of fun" Done
    NSD Done
    PAD Done
    Stick to meal plan Done
    B/L/D from stores Done
dd taking a packed lunch Done
    Update freezer inventory Done
Home educate children for free, we managed to squeeze some lessons in earlier around all the other things this morning Done
    Make bread Done
    Soak porridge Done

Yes Clf, I've heard others call them dropped scones too.

That is interesting 1LL, as drop scones are something quite different in the South of England, small, thick pancakes so called because you 'drop' tablespoons of batter onto the hot griddle - I used to make piles of these for my children when they were young, as they liked them and they cost virtually nothing, we had goats for milk and chickens for eggs back then, and plenty of HM jam. We couldn't afford the expensive bought snacks that many of their friends had after school, but visiting friends thought our virtually free snack a real treat :rotfl:I make piles of them for grandchildren now, never once known a child who doesn't love them! I think some people call them Scotch pancakes.

I haven't heard Welsh cakes being called griddle scones CLF, but that is pretty much exactly what they are! Interesting the different names people have for things :)

Ziggy - hope you feel better soon :(
PF - I feel your pain with those white tiles. I have black and white ceramic tiles in my bathroom, in a chequered pattern, which look great for about 5 minutes after they have been washed! No idea about steam mops though, as I have never had one.

DD and kids round today, so not much has been done
Fed everyone on HM soup and olive bread, with raspberry muffins for afters :)

Sold two pairs of huge and horrible vases (think Grecian urns in sickly green with lurid fruit patterns :rotfl:) and a big ugly jug today :rotfl: Made £57 selling old stock over the last 2 days, that I thought I was stuck with forever! FB is obviously the way to go for offloading oversized and unpleasant Victoriana :rotfl:

Load of washing which will need to go on the airer, as it has been pouring with rain all day :(
Sent OH shopping, still need to look at the [STRIKE]damage[/STRIKE] receipts , fill in spending diary etc. He got most of the things on the list, a few odd substitutions  and some extras that weren't on the list
It is so cold and miserable that we have lit the wood stove :o Only using gifted scrap wood, so no cost, but still, it isn't even October yet!
Better get on and do dinner, salmon tonight :) Don't feel much like cooking, but it is less trouble, and much cheaper, than going out in the rain for a takeaway :D

I'm thinking I've got confused Dawn!! As I just googled dropped scones images and yes they're definitely not the same thing! (and they look like the recipe I follow for American pancakes ;) )
Great news on the fb sales too!

    Today list
Switched dss alarm clock off at the wall for the day, no point in wasting the leccy! done
Breakfast was ys bread for toast done
Checked meter readings and sent to supplier, we've used less then the month last year. done
All meals will be leftovers - beef stew/mash and leek & potatot soup done, wasn't really fancying the stew but actually really enjoyed, it was nice to have something that just needed a quick heat up :)
Dh wants me to order another travel mug - will continue to research prices as I've seen it so far at amzn for £12.89 and args £20 done, gone with rain forest people as I had a gift card from surveys to put against it plus ordered compatible toothbrush heads, £6 rather then the branded ones I ordered last time for £22, fingers crossed that they're ok!
Rm surveys done & the correctly delivered one done too
Write up kids jobs list for next month as we've agreed a new pocket money plan with them so want to be ready for the new month
Watch a family film under fleece blankets as there is no way I'm putting the heating on yet. done, well not a film we have watched the first episode of lost in space on Netflix, kids seemed to enjoy :)

I've no idea as yet what else I'll get done, so I'll add more as I go.
Dh's new bank card has come, so I've got him to activate it so that I could then go on to sort out his bank switch will give us a £125 voucher switching incentive. Once the switch is done we'll open him a new regular saver too. - This is going to finally get some paper clutter off my kitchen counter! :)

Went online to renew library books so that we don't incur any fees later in the week.

Booked gym sessions for the week ahead to make the most of my membership
Happy that I got a few bits and pieces done today.
The rain has only just stopped here, its been constant all day. That lovely long hot period we had seems so long ago now!

  • Evening all,

Purple Fairy could you please pass on the thai curry slow cooker recipe please, I'm always on the look out for different dishes to try in the SC.

A lazy(ish) day at home here, managed to use up a few odd and ends from the fridge and now I have a delicious aubergine daal to have for dinner and a big pot of carrot, chickpea and garlic soup (from cooking on a bootstrap) which will do for lunches this coming week.

There are a few other bits to use u[ in the fridge so i'll have to get a meal plan together so that I can use everything before anything goes off.
  • Morning all :hello: leisurely morning here as we have no activity this morning for the smalls as we would do normally. DH is working OT so was out early this am. Packed lunch in tow.

Anyone have any experience of a steam mop? Really thinking of getting one as we have white tiles  in the kitchen which aren’t going anywhere soon and they drive me mad as they are always dirty. I have some errands to run and some jobs to do so today will look a bit like this:

Washing pegged out until it rains
Visit a community orchard if I can find one local enough with fruit
Buy paint, will preload a discount card first
    Make a lemon drizzle cake
Small shop with list, didn’t go yesterday
Soak chickpeas to make a Thai curry in sc tomorrow
    Vacuum through
Long soak in the bath tonight, use up some products
    Make welsh cakes :D
    Make flapjack

Have a good day everyone. Purps.

Great day all round here. Lovely MFW'er told me about an orchard near(ish) to us. As I have free fuel, it was worth going over. Came back with 2 shopping bags worth but still left loads for others :T 4 already dispatched to sc with a red cabbage I bought today. Never fancied this before but it's felt so autumnal today it felt about right :rotfl: smells lovely.

Made lemon cake and welsh cakes which I can confirm are yummy both hot and cold :rotfl: ran 5 errands whilst I was out so felt like a very useful day.

DH applied for a cc which will net us £30 in vouchers to go towards something we are saving for. We're also due another £50 for a product we signed up for which will go to it also. CC will be just for spends to be paid off.

Smalls dug out an old dvd and watched it tonight. Used a ys bagel from freezer for tea as I wasn't over hungry (must have been those welsh cakes :o)) and as DH not here I decided to keep it simple.

I've made a picnic for tomorrow for smalls and DH who are off out for the day. I'm not going as the entry price is extortionate  and they've got it much cheaper with advance tickets but no point paying extra for me. I'll get on with things here. They can have hm sausage rolls, lemon cake, and sandwiches.

Thanks for the responses on the steam mop, I may ask my friend if I can borrow their log in to wh1ch and see if there is any info on there.
  • Morning all :coffee:
I can't decide where to start - I am truly bored with my own anxiety now, and always moaning on about how rubbish I'm feeling. Just need to accept it and get some strategies in place for overcoming it.
On the plus side - the insomnia issue may at least partly resolve after today because my tellybox should be fixed and fully functioning again after half past ten when the Sky man has been. It sounds ridiculous to me how much I rely on it to keep my busy brain distracted at 4am. Thank goodness because being tired really doesn't help anything else.
Got most of my required stuff done yesterday, shopping, tutoring etc so in theory today should really and truly be mine to do with whatever I want. There's a bit of my brain that wants to do a whole lot of yummy cooking after my success at making chutney last week :rotfl: but I will also just want to sit and relax a bit as I've had less than 4 hours of sleep.
